So... How did you meet your Polish girlfriend/wife?

I'm a male and obviously looking for a nice Polish female. My question to those who are/were in such a relationship with a Polish girl is as follows:

How exactly did you meet your Polish girlfriend or Polish wife?

Was it something totally coincidental? Were you actively looking for a girl from Poland, near the Polish neighborhood, at school, or it "just happened" that you are now with a Polish woman? This question is directed mostly to those men who aren't Polish themselves and possibly don't know the Polish language well. I'm not looking for any specific websites or something - I'd just like to hear general reasons/ideas.

Happy Christmas!

Paul

I think most "lucky guys" met their Polish "better part" by accident. Most of the guys are of Polish origin (be it first, second, or x generation).

I think thats true. I am a guy who is of Polish ancestry. Knowing things about the culture helps alot. It has been a huge advantage.

Also, hanging out and living in a Polish area is huge!

Too bad, I took my advantages for granted. I was young and stupid. Now I live in an area with no Polish girls. I may have to settle for an American girl who is high maintenance and can't cook good polish food.

Doh!

High maintenance? Interesting comment. What makes an American woman high maintenance and not a Polish woman?

High maintenance is common here. I think some American women are definitely more high maint. than PL....he just ended up with one. Guess it all depends on the person. From my ex (american) to my current...completely opposite.

To answer this Paul's question. I met my GF in a snowboard forum....it had nothing to do with where you're from and wasn't a dating site. I don't think you'd find much luck in a site for dating because it sounds desperate. We just happened to run into each other and instantly got along. We both love to ride and have a lot of similarities. She's the best :)

I'm still confused about what high maintenance means. Any examples? Do American women expect more sex or something?

Ha ha no. Constantly having to do things to please her/keep her happy. Like constantly having to buy things...expensive things...bags, make-up, etc. Nothing to do with sex :)

LOl theres actually a wiki on it

That sounds just like my ex-boyfriend! He always expected expensive gifts for birthdays, holidays, etc. and he would get upset if he didn't get them. And all he ever thought about was himself. And I always had to pay constant attention to him because the moment I didn't, he would feel rejected and abandoned. And the worst part was that if I didn't give him my full attention for even just a moment then another girl would come along and steal his attention. It was like having a child. American men are high maintenance, too, believe me.

Sounds like my x-husband too! As soon as the first child was born, he felt abandoned. He became jealous of the child and would constantly say: "I want my wife back". " I want my wife back". Before the child was born I would buy him expensive gifts ( A nice snowmobile amongst other things which he kept after he filed for divorce.)

He was American, high-maintenance spoiled little mama's boy. Big Baby.

Well I believe that the problem with American men is that when they are young they are taught to grow up and to make a lot of money because that will make you happy. And the young ladys are taught to find a rich man. Because he will be better able to take care care of them. So the men are always trying to impress the women with expensive gifts and when he feels that he is not impressing her. Then he gets insecure because in his heart he knows that he is not a rich man, and is scared that she has started looking for a better deal. So he gives up. And starts trying to find someone before she dumps him so it will not hurt as much. American men are very childish and I believe this happens to men who have been raised without a father figure. And who have been babied by mom for too long. My advise is to find a catholic man who has both parents still married, and you will find the man you are looking for. As for him wanting expensive gifts he is worst than I thought. I can't defend him on this. Maybe he wants to show it off to all the ladys to show that he is not gay, and that a women really likes him. I have heard of men wearing wedding rings to pick up chicks.:)

I have heard of men wearing wedding rings to pick up chicks.

I did. Apparently, a married man is seen as a man who can commit (a lot of men can't or don't). Therefore, if he is committed to the wife (presently), he will be committed to me when he divorces her to be with me. It is a very twisted logic even hard for me to understand, but there was a radio talk show on this subject. It was hilarious, when women called explaining their preferences for a man with a wedding ring.

This would somewhat explain the rate of divorces...I guess. :)

So, traveling businessmen - you don't need to take the ring off!!! :)

(I don't think I want a man who travels a lot). Scary.

The dude was Catholic and his parents were still married.

lol. Maybe that was the reason.

Maybe I should ask you how old he was?

See this is exactly why Eve got Adam thrown out of the garden of eden.
Women can't be satisfied... They always want more, and if you tell them they can't have it than they want it even more.

Well, okay, if you really want to know. He was only 19 years old when we started seeing each other and I was many years older than him. But we stayed together for several years and even though he had matured he was still high maintenance.

Yeah, true. But can you imagine living in garden of eden still? Running around naked (ok, keep the laurel leaf on), no cell phones, no Internet, cars and other goodies of civilization...we wouldn't even have this conversation...

So, I think we are where we are because we - women wanted more. :) and you guys had to keep on inventing "stuff" to make us happy. :)

Well women do mature a lot faster than men and usaully three years ahead. That is why you see more older men with younger women. Sounds like you wanted a boytoy for awhile. Nothing wrong with that at that age. Well I have to go fight the English on my hostile comments.

So, I think we are where we are because we - women wanted more. and you guys had to keep on inventing "stuff" to make us happy.

Yeah I think the saying goes men wear than pants but the women pick them out.

I met my hubby on a blind date, we got married 3 years later and have been married
for 37 years.

My hubby told me that it was Love at first sight for him and also for me...I knew when I met him that I would marry him.
