UK, Ireland / LOOKING FOR GOOD POLISH BANDS TO PLAY LARGE GIG IN LONDON [5]

i think myslovitz is a great band

How could I forget. isisores is right. Myslovitz are much admired, some say similar to Coldplay. Although a bit stagnant on stage, they provide good tunes and get the crowd moving.

You could also check out: Akurat. Another popular band. It's difficult to pin down their style. Had the crowd dancing the last time I saw them. Akurat are one of those bands that you might see and enjoy, but never by the CD. Still worth checking out though.

Ocean. Not as popular as they should be. Rock.

Hurt. Popular in Poland. Rock. Vocalist has charisma.

Farben Lehre. Young. Good live band. Rock.

Pidzama Porno. Put on a good show. On the radio quite often. Vocalist has charisma. Get the audience on their feet. Rock/Pop. Most people know at least one of their songs.

These bands usually play [live] to the 18-25 age group.

All have their own website and all can be found on You Tube.

Check them out before you say no.

Life / Getting a NIP or PESEL [21]

You can have residency without a PESEL

Not so.

"The PESEL is mandatory for all residents of Poland and for temporary residents living in Poland for over two months''

Real Estate / Disparity between land prices and retail price. [10]

Then now is a good time to buy. But make sure it's with planning permission.

In my opinion the way to make money is by buying an old palace and doing it up.

Real Estate / Cost of construction per square metre [15]

Are you talking about retail or construction costs?

That's buying the finished property.

I'm useless with links. Please, look at the main board.

I'll ask our builder what his rate is tomorrow,

Please post his estimate. It might help others.

Real Estate / Cost of construction per square metre [15]

7000zl is 1,800€ per metre square. This I find hard to believe

Read the property threads. In Wroclaw Rynek you would pay 25,000 zloty and that is last years price.

Now you understand Grzegorz, I think.

Real Estate / Disparity between land prices and retail price. [10]

Why is this?

Because you are not allowed to buy. I'm serious......when the law changes the prices will go up.

There are so many restrictions preventing foreign folk from buying. This could be it.

The flats therefore would have internal fittings such as bathroom, kitchen and flooring.

You do realize that this is an additional cost, Yes ?

Expect to pay anywhere from 7,000 to 12,000zl per sq metre... and as much as 20,000

It really depends on the area.

I'm not sure what you mean. A finished flat or house means finished up to the point where the kitchen, bathroom, flooring can be fitted.

Are you talking.. beyond this... meaning, able to live in.

News / Nazism in Poland - A recipe for mass suicide? [176]

that is just the kind of wet view that has let the children of the UK get out of hand, gun crimes, stabbings, drunken behaviour etc etc.

The children who are out of control in the UK, from what I've read, are younger than those in the article. It is the power of the law, or lack of it, plus bad parenting that is responsible for this excessive behaviour in the UK.

Those in the article are a different class of criminal. Prison and re-education would be the best option in their case. You don't give people a lethal injection just because they are bad or are being led by fools.

I find it interesting that those in the article never killed anyone. Probably more by luck than anything else. The same can't be said for what UK teenagers are doing.

you need to get them quick and early with no mercy.

Would it not be better to try and understand them...change their views... then get them on your side.

USA, Canada / Polish immigrant's views on living in USA now - time to return home? [8]

I guess I need to visit Poland to check how it's really like there now

You will find: New, big buildings in city areas. Foreign names at business addresses. Better cars, buses, trams. Higher cost of living. You will also find areas that seem to have had no new investment.

UK, Ireland / PASSPORTS FOR POLISH PEOPLE TO COME TO ENGLAND [103]

What more could the government know with an ID card that they don't already know...?

Not a lot, I'm sure.

I think that the UK will end up with them eventually.

I mean ALL your information will be kept on this card.

The only information an office will take from your card is. name, age, address, card number.........and check the photo and signature.

My passport, with its magnetic strip, probably has more details on it..

tele,

That's good info. Thanks.

That just sounds like and easy and cheap way to send money back to Poland

True.

But it also shows how important the card is and what value it has.

What is this ID card ?? I thought that even though Poland is part of EU you will still need a passport,

ID card = Dowód Osobisty.

To be honest I think the law is unclear. As I understand it you need a passport. But I know people and I have seen people enter the UK on their Dowód. It has to be the new plastic version, not the little green book. It might depend on the immigration officer. I don't know. But of course the answer is only a phone call away, if you are travelling.

Crossing the German - Polish border..........You only need a [new] Dowód. That's for sure because my wife does it every week.

or will the ID card still work for that..

I don't know if a british bank [computer] can read the information on the card..
