Life / Biedronka - retail chain in Poland [48]

I can afford to buy good quality food for more money without having to resort to cheap and cheerful (or cheap and miserable) shops of this kind.

To my knowledge no-one has died because of Biedronka products. For an example of quality, the veggies are on view... so you can check them.

As for cost. I too can afford the more expensive. But why pay more for such things as bread, milk, alcohol, when they came from the same producer.

Life / Queuing and Polish people [49]

!!..are there many road accidents in Poland?

More people die in three months on Polish roads than one year in the UK.

Biedronka - retail chain in Poland

The quality of goods seems to be getting better, but it might be the new packaging on some items.
The cost of milk is half that of Chata Polska or Zabka.
It is very easy to save money by shopping at Biedronka rather than some of the other stores.

Life / Queuing and Polish people [49]

do they only do this in Poland lol

Not everyone jumps the queue, but the comment above about drivers jumping queues is true. Only today I watched as a car mounted the pavement, drove forward and then joined the line of cars again. It was a sort of 'road rage' as there was a massive traffic jam at the time.

- I travel to Poland frequently and have never seen Polish people jumping the queque. In fact, compared to many parts of, say, US, Poles stand in lines quite orderly.

Aren't you therefore attempting to do a little branding here? Any bull$hot will do in order to discredit the Poles, eh?

Open your eyes or buy some glasses. Poles 'queue jump'... fact.

USA, Canada / Standards of Education in US vs Poland [22]

I asked them to compare Ben Jonson (URL) with Shakespeare.

They were probably thinking of the athlete, Ben Johnson.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

When there was a vote which language should be used to type the American Declaration of Independence, English beat German by ONE vote.

This is a myth

Travel / Have you ever been in Poland? [111]

I have definetly not seen such a motley, scum bag crew hanging around one place for a long tijme. Alcholics, pick pockets and any other poor peolple just trying tyo make something they dont have i cant imagine. Its a real scum haven.

Some days are worse than others, but it's not that bad. Besides, it's the bag snatchers you have to look out for.
The police are well aware of what is going on and there are plenty of cameras about.

If we are going to talk about WWII, the English, mildly said, were behind the scenes compared to the Americans and the Red Army.

Someone please remind me when the USA commited itself to action in WWII.

Love / My Stupid Friend [40]

its not for us to judge...

If we are to judge his "stupid friend" then I think it is fair to bring him [nauczyciel] into the equation.

I am travelling to Wroclaw and Auschwitz in a few weeks so I'd love to hear from people there about what to do or see.

Do a forum search first and then open a new thread. Welcome to the forum.

UK, Ireland / London's Polish community...thinking about the Metropolitan Police. [15]

The police are not employed as linguists and at the same time many members of the Met already speak a foreign language.
How many languages do you want them to learn and who is going to police the streets while they are in school learning these languages.

When the UK gets its next influx of foreign folk will they learn that language too.

News / Things you might not know about Poland [76]

In the countryside it's still a bit difficult, but evil western capitalists are quickly making inroads there, too.

For them to be accepted in my village... they will have to build the shop first.

The mass change to credit cards took place in the early 90's. It was connected with wages being paid into banks, among other things. It is also noticable that cheque books are not used in Poland. This is because the change was so quick and hole in the wall cards and credit cards were the obvious progression.

Real Estate / Can I buy a small farm in Poland? [49]

I read some of the emails which suggest that it will be sooner.

I'm sure that if you look at the ''does and dont's'' for buying property you will find a clause that suits your purpose. Most important in your case is the fact that you wish to work the land and possibly employ others.

That's just my guess though.

An older band with a 70's / 80's feel to them. Good live, but a bit outdated.

UK, Ireland / Where have all the Polish students gone? [6]

Maybe they are better prepared when they leave Poland.
Employers could be offering tuition.
There are so many Polish people it is easier to rely on your, Polish, mate.

When you go to seek your fortune it means that you start with nothing, usually. They can't afford the additional cost.
