UK, Ireland / "As the Poles Get Richer, Fewer Seek British Jobs" - article [10]

“We’re very happy here,” Mr. Farbiszewski, 31, said. “The quality of life is better, the economy is stronger, there is less bureaucracy, it’s a multicultural society and the lady in the supermarket will smile at me. People don’t smile at each other in Poland.”

Study / Choosing an International School in Poland [9]

it was in munich

my memories of that time dont really focuss too much on school... but i do remember that the class sizes were small and there was plenty of individual attention.

my classmates were the children of expats, like myself, and it was pretty tightknit group - we had a lot of fun together both in and outside the classroom... but whether any of my education was worth the vast sums spent on it is a matter open for debate...

your point about sending your daughter to a local polish school because she will be living there permanently is an important one and i imagine i would do the same if in your position - it will open doors and give opportunities that going to an international school wont... and vice versa i guess

Study / Choosing an International School in Poland [9]

i went to an international school - learnt the local language with people who spoke my own - isolation would have come from being put in a class with no one who spoke my language

Life / Sending teabags to Poland as a gift [20]

My Polish friends are always saying that the bread here in the UK is rubbish compared to the bread in Poland

Poland is fortunate enough to still have freshly baked bread on sale in most food shops - they haven't, yet, been swamped with the soggy sliced paff we get fobbed off with in the UK

freshly baked, non-mass-produced British bread is delicious - you just dont get to see it as often as you do in Poland... we have lost the art in return for the convenience of not having to slice our own bread...

UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

I find it intimidating when around the polish who are chatting in their own language.

it can be intimidating, awkward, lonely and uncomfortable being around speakers of other languages but is this not more to do with one's own insecurities rather than anything else
