USA, Canada / American Woman & Polish Man Want to Get Married-Advice for Getting to USA [16]

I feel like we get conflicting information- our heads are spinning with all we've read about getting married in the USA!

britt84, I know someone who is trying to get a green card (in the USA) and their lawyer told them that it is now taking only 6 to 7 months because the USICS has hired new workers and they're working weekends to speed up the process. It takes within 90 days to get a work permit.

But one thing you should think about is that you'll have to sponsor your spouse. In order to qualify, you have to make a certain amount of money each year and prove it through tax returns. I think it's more than $17,000.

If you don't qualify, you'll need to find someone else who can sponsor him, like your parents. If you arrive in the U.S. and you can't find a sponsor for him, you won't be able to get his work permit and green card.

Sponsorship now lasts forever, even if he leaves you. Make sure he's going to apply for U.S. citizenship which he'll be able to do after 3 years of marriage. This will free you of sponsorship.

Love / My polish g/f can be a nightmare,is it always like this [262]

one minute she can be nice as pie,the next moody as hell, really shouty, and in a small while back to normal.

It sounds to me like she has erratic mood swings. What would cause her to suddenly change like that? Is she like that with everyone and at her workplace or just with you?

if you need a hand dude, I have a car albeit a fairly small one but would be happy to help at some point pm me if you need a hand.

is this offer for real? I'm so amazed at how friendly people are in other parts of the world.

We are sure we can make it together , but we both have such little money at the moment...Our dream is to be together , and hopefully make a home here so that she can have her children back in her life again...

that is so sweet. congratulations wild man, I mean wildrover. :)

Love / My polish g/f can be a nightmare,is it always like this [262]

She obviously has feelings for you and when you asked her out on a date she thought you had feelings for her, too. She said in her text messages that you're playing with her feelings. Are you sure this is just a case of her trying to control you? It might help if you stop asking her out on dates and then never follow through.

Love / My polish g/f can be a nightmare,is it always like this [262]

she just kept on at me,saying i had taken her car keys, which i hadn't,kept trying to get into my bedroom, and i woke up this morning and she has taken my mobile phone, and my work trainers, and my good shoes (the only 2 pairs of shoes i own) so this morning i had to go to work in my slippers,

she's a vengeful one, isn't she.

Love / I do not understand my Polish boyfriend [20]

He said to me that already he cannot live with me because him has stress

I am Latin power girl!!

Why is it a stress for him to live with you? Do you treat him bad? Maybe he's not used to being treated the Latin power way. I don't think it would be fair to take his children away if he wants them to stay. It doesn't sound like he ever agreed to make a lifetime commitment to you. What a difficult situation. I wish you luck.

Love / About Personal Problems (English / Polish relationships) [32]

And why is the usual answer to these personal problems almost always: He's cheating on you, he's married, he already has a girlfriend. Surely there can't be, what seems, such a large number of people who are taken in this way.

I've wondered this same thing myself. Why do people automatically assume that the other person is seeing someone else because they're behaving badly? A man is missing for 3 days so obviously he's with another woman. What if he really needed time alone to think about his life and the future of his relationship? What if the girl who hasn't replied to text messages isn't ready for a serious relationship right now?

Travel / How Can I Not be the "Ugly American" Tourist in Poland? [97]

From what I've seen, Polish men don't match the colors on their clothing in the same way that American men do. I figure it's the style. I've seen Polish men wear orange pants and a green shirt, or a red shirt and a green jacket and brown shoes. Also, the style of their shoes is different. Maybe it would help to go shopping over there for some shoes and clothes or just don't look so perfectly matched in your wardrobe.

Love / My polish g/f can be a nightmare,is it always like this [262]

She has been checking me since last year, she used to ring my work to make sure i had actually turned up,accused me of staring at other women all the time, mate you only know a fraction of the story,

She probably saw a lot of unfaithful men in her line of work and it probably caused her to lose trust in all men. Even if she had been a friendlier person, the relationship was probably doomed from the start because of her tainted view of the world.

Genealogy / I have got alot of Polish DNA [51]

Did you know that many of the DNA samples that customers are compared to belong to people in the prison system? It's the test that matches people with specific countries. (I forgot the name of the company)

Genealogy / I have got alot of Polish DNA [51]

There are some tests that actually do say Polish and Greek, etc. They use different DNA markers for that test but they always give a disclaimer, never a promise. But the weird thing is that there are a lot of people who get matched to specific countries and that's exactly where their ancestors came from according to records.

The tests never say that someone belongs to any specific race. The results explain that your genetic profile either matches or closely matches a certain group of people who live in certain parts of the world and who share similar markers. In some cases your genetic matches are your cousins. In other cases they are related from much farther back.

USA, Canada / Polish-US marriage and divorce. [26]

they just broke up and lived in different places but pretended that they were together so she can get that stuff.

in that case, just be careful with trying to help her with this because you might get in trouble, too, for helping someone committ marriage fraud (by getting advice for her in a public place).

USA, Canada / Polish-US marriage and divorce. [26]

The green card is valid for only two years untill she gets a permanent resident card

And I think once they've been married for 3 years she can apply for actual citizenship and she won't need the sponsor anymore. But I think she has to prove that they have lived together for those 3 years.

Bitter_Cat, it sounds like there is more to the story. If her husband has been abusive toward her and if that's why she left him, she can get citizenship if she can prove it, such as through police reports.

Genealogy / I have got alot of Polish DNA [51]

I took an mtDNA test and it was right on. The DNA tests are not all wrong. I even got exact matches with people who are from the same area as my maternal line. But we don't share any common ancestors which means we are probably related from way back.

LAGirl,

You mean you just found out that you have Polish DNA after having been interested in the Polish culture and having had a Polish husband? That is so weird.

p.s. you should go to Polish festivals. There's a small one in Santa Monica every year. There are also some at the churches in L.A. and Yorba Linda and also at Alpine Village.

Love / Soldier born in Poland / living in England. Fiance going away for ages. Complicated... [205]

I don't know if anyone has already asked this question. I haven't read everything. Do you have support groups in your area for military wives or fiances? Here in the U.S. military wives and families get together, spend time together, go out, talk about their feelings. I'm sure it won't make things easy but it's probably good to have friends who understand what you're feeling.

Are your feelings of doubt really about him leaving for a few months? Could there be another reason? I think it's so important to marry someone because you really want that person forever. It shouldn't matter if they're not going to be there for a few months. That's why I wonder if maybe deep down you're thinking maybe he's not really "the one".

But if you do feel he is the one, I think it's better to stay with him for now even though it won't be easy. If things don't work out when he's away, at least you'll both know you tried and you can move on. But right now I'm sure he needs your support and it would just be the wrong time to leave him unless you're 100 percent sure he's not "the one".
