Work / Irish girl to move to Poland. Is it dangerous (beauty therapist) [29]

Are you as bad as the Scots in terms of singing about how much you miss your homeland, even while in a pub in the middle of the homeland? :D

I would say worse, much much worse
ha ha ha
It's funny because it is true :)
When this Irish beauty therapist comes over here she will be doing the same :)

Next thing, two hideously ugly women grabbed me and told me how much they love Ireland and how they love Irish accents and Irish men.

That only happens to impersonators, unfortunately ;)

Genealogy / Needing help establishing a man's pre-war existence [3]

Hello Jerry,

And welcome to the Polish Forum.
That's quite a story, your father surviving the concentration camp.
I hope you can find some useful information.

A lot of the documentation has been destroyed during the war and during communism but there is a chance you could find your father by using his name.

Best of luck to you.

Life / Any Polish B-boys or breakdancers in Poland? [7]

There are break dancers in Krakow's main market square, they busk there and are quite good and organised.
I don't know how popular it is but hip hop is very popular here and they kinda go together?.

Actually if you youtube "break dancing Poland"
there is loads of stuff.

Travel / How can I identify a legal taxi in Poland? [3]

They do not wear Uniforms.
The car will have a sign saying Taxi on it.
If you are worried you should take the registration number of the car and give it to a friend or someone you trust.
But you ought to be fine, ring one of the taxi companies and make an appointment to get picked up.

Travel / My trip to Poland - I hated Katowice, loved Krakow, and adored Bielsko [59]

Well, we Poles took London,

What did the Brits expect putting a huge gherkin in the middle of the city?
like a moth to a flame,
the Poles went in their droves.

Brits can take Katowice.

Give'em an inch....

everytime I see the british flag here (and it's 2 years now) I wonder: "What a strange flag, what happened to polish one???"

I think the exact same thing here,
bloody English schools think everybody in the UK speak like the queen,
boy oh boy,
are their students in for a shock!.

Edit,,, got it...

I (stupidly) told a few young fellas I would translate there web site for them.
And this is helping, I will just have to rewrite it rather than actually translate the whole lot :)

Law / Polish tradesmen: Be careful... some may cheat you.. [37]

Take it easy WB,
We know your angry and probably cold but don't get yourself in to a state.
Why don't you go down to them tomorrow morning and tell them to take it back? raise hell, direct your anger.

6m3
1000 PLN

Not a bad deal I get it 1 cubic metre for 220 PLN.

If your not happy then leave Poland, situation solved>

For somebody to leave a country because they got big wet wood would be an extreme.

But i have to agree with Grzegorz_, it is funny.

Life / Bisons of Poland - your thoughts? [90]

Zubron is a hybrid of domestic cattle and zubr. Created by Leopold Walicki in 1847.

But why?.
Maybe the wild Żubr are not easily domesticated and cows have a hard time of winter so the extra coat/bulk helps? just a guess.

That first photo the Zubron has a lovely coat.

USA, Canada / FIRST POL-AM CATHOLIC (?) PRIESTESS [72]

Well, being agnostic or atheist is a fair position to adopt in the absence of irrefutable evidence to the contrary (i.e that God exists).

it is not just irrefutable but there is no evidence, god even as a theory is a lame one.

Agnostic especially as being unsure seems to fit with the evidence.

I was agnostic for many years not any more and there is no evidence, none, zero, zip.
Atheism therefore fits the evidence.

The question there is 'to what level are you unsure?'.

I am as unsure as you are that the God Thor does not create lightning.
(I am assuming you are not delusional).
Remember all the myths of today were once religions, now we look at Zeus, Isis and Thor as fictional characters.

USA, Canada / FIRST POL-AM CATHOLIC (?) PRIESTESS [72]

I asked PF members for 10 Catholic beliefs that would separate it from Protestant ones.

I did not see that but i am not surprised, even when they have google infront of them, they still don't know what to research.

How can we possibly enter into theological debates when the fundamentals seem to be so elusive?

Part of the con is that nobody knows and you are programmed not to ask questions.
It is a matter of "blind faith" (the absolute belief in something with no evidence), put your blinkers on and keep your head down, you are in the presence of the ultimate big brother.

But my point is nothing to do with Protestant or Catholic or Muslims or Jews but with god itself, which has to do with all religions.

I know I have come across quite dogmatic on this thread but that was because I did not want people to misunderstand my view.
I have spent a lot of time contemplating and researching this, I do not write these words lightly.

I would like to continue to discuss this topic but as before only if we can remain civilised.

Work / Irish girl to move to Poland. Is it dangerous (beauty therapist) [29]

Hello rebeccazietal,
And welcome to the Polish forum.
Where in Poland are you thinking of going?.

and is there much work for beauty therapist

I honestly don't know, I would suggest getting a TEFL (teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate before you come over, so you have the option of teaching English.

As for How dangerous for an Irish girl? You should relax, they only eat Irish on months that begin with the letter "A".

Best of luck,
From an irish guy living in Poland.

Real Estate / Budimex Murano development (central Warsaw) Phase I [38]

I'm sure you were one of the nice ones!

Didn't you know all developers are Santa worshippers? ha ha ha ha.

No problem, we all need a little direction every now and again.

Real Estate / Budimex Murano development (central Warsaw) Phase I [38]

To be honest I don't know. They would insist on writing these contracts in Polish..

You may be pleasantly surprised.
I know someone whose bought a new flat in Krakow and the penalty clause is 11,000 Euro and their deposit back, if they decide to pull out.

That build is also late according to the contract.
Which I thought was fairly hefty but the developer will just get it out of the builders for it is their responsibility to be on time and considering how "warm" the previous two winters have been.

I was surprised they were late at all.
So perhaps it is worth checking out, explore all avenues.

Best regards,
Evil Developer :)

History / Malinowski - creator of the highest railways in the world Peru Andes [10]

I was in Lima too but not on the train.
What this map does not show at all is that Lima is very close to sea level (100) metres or so and the train reaches heights of up to 4,818 meters (15,806 ft).

That for me is the incredible part.

Railroad in the clouds
poland.gov.pl/Ernest,Malinowski:,railroad,in,the,clouds,1981.html

I think I may have been wrong about Ernest Malinowski having been the was the originator and builder of the Devil's Nose.
I was looking at the "the great south American railroad" that is now destroyed, which the Devil's Nose formed part of.
But i can't find suitable maps and info about it, sorry about that.

But something for sure is the map and data you have provided Prince and the part about What this map does not show at all is that Lima is very close to sea level (100) metres or so and the train reaches heights of up to 4,818 meters (15,806 ft).

Well I suppose it gives a better idea of what Ernest Malinowski had to do.

Fortunately wikipedia can help me out:

I think I understand what you are trying to say, it is quite interesting possibly not very practical?.
I don't know the full extent to which only knowing one's mind but then again maybe it is like that signature thingy on my posts,

"Know thyself, to understand oneself is to understand other humans"

Some ppl here need to loosen up their tight mohair berets ASAP!

This is a discussion, join in if you will but just telling people to loosen up is not very constructive.
Perhaps expand upon what you would like to say?.
Just a thought.

Some may try ! but it is impossible to stop the wheels of progress !

I agree to an extent but we must be careful that we do not create something else of equal fictitious value to replace it, as we have done so many many times before.

History / Malinowski - creator of the highest railways in the world Peru Andes [10]

I find it terribly difficult to get perspective when photographing mountains, because you have no real good reference point.
But these are huge mountains and it would be a struggle to achieve this with modern day technology. Urbina at a staggering 3604 meters is the highest point of this route, now consider that Lima is 100 meters above sea level.

The Devil's nose is an almost perpendicular wall of rock. Many people must have died building this.

But i am having problems acquiring the correct information, such as a map of the railway system on the net.
