Language / 'Could/would' in Polish [12]

lso, to finish, Polish has never been a lingua franca language as t you point out.

Polish was a lingua franca from 1500 to 1700 in small parts of Central and large areas of Eastern Europe, because of the political, cultural, scientific and military influence of the powerful Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_language#History

The aristocracy spoke French at court, certainly not Polish.

At the times I wrote about Russians were as close to speaking French as you are to understanding linguistics.

Od połowy XVI wieku do początku wieku XVIII polszczyzna była językiem dworskim w Rosji, i tą drogą przeniknął do języka rosyjskiego szereg wyrazów pochodzenia zachodnioeuropejskiego, przyswojonych wcześniej przez język polski.

Life / "I love you" in Polish culture... [36]

Of course I wouldn't say I love you to someone I hardly know.

Most Americans are different. They will say they love an MP3 player before they even buy it.

Language / 'Could/would' in Polish [12]

No, the Russian Language is much older than Polish

How much?

Polish, which in fact nearly died out.

What a revelation!
Russians wanted Polish to die out, but this is not the same. Polish has never even be close to dying out. Idiots like yourself hopefully will someday.

Russian is the root of all Slavonic Languages like it or not

Nothing to like or dislike. P.I.E. is the root of all Slavonic languages, including Russian.

You should spend more time learning French in your new adopted homeland.

Why? They don't speak French here, even though they think they do.

News / Abkhazia and South Ossetia are independent states now! Poland reaction? [236]

I can't and won't claim the US intervenes in various countries for humanitarian and social reasons, but let's face it - I would much prefer for Poland to be defeated by the US (see Germany) and be the best friends with the Russians.

In fact, during commie times in Poland there was a saying - let's declare war on the US and let's surrender the day they invade Poland in response - life will be much better then.

Life / Who has moved to Poland in the last year? Swap stories. [115]

I think that was an extreme case (as it was a property belonging to the town) but it is normal practice in Poland to leave a sold property "naked".

It's not a normal practice, but rather a question of agreement. That's why you hire lawyers when you buy properties, to make sure there is a clear understanding as to what stays and what goes. Such agreements do include mentions of light fixtures.

This practice is not unique to Poland. The same here in Canada and the US, where my lawyer told me about a guy who, before the closing date, took doors out of the house he sold.

Language / 'Could/would' in Polish [12]

When Polish was a clearly cristalised language of its own Russians still spoke what in reality was not a language distinct from what was spoken by Byelorussians and Ukrainians. In short, one might argue that there was no Russian language per se at the time

Although sometimes called Old Russian, it was really Old Slavonic. Russians were really late into the game of national languages, with their first grammar not even having been written until the mid 18th century.

Meanwhile Polish was the lingua franca in part of Central Europe and in the majority of Eastern Europe. Polish replaces the Old Slavonic/Old Russian as the literary language of Lithuania. It also become the language of the Russian nobility. In fact, between the middle of the 16th and beginning of the 18th centuries, Polish was the language used in the Russian court. Yes, Russians "stole" from Polish extensively for quite some time.

Russian derives, borrows from and is influenced by Old-Nordic,Old Church Slavonic, Greek, Tatar, Polish, German, French, and lately, English. Most borrowings from western languages, until around the end of the 19th century, sip through into Russian via the influence of the Polish language.

You should really stop masturbating your mind with Stalinist "linguistics". I did have an opportunity to read some of that garbage too. The books are great if you want to have fun and poke some jokes around, but in order to understand where the fun is a solid understanding of linguistics and the history of languages is required. You're lacking in this respect so the result is that you continue to make a fool of yourself.

News / Blood libel fresco in Polish cathedral? [35]

Funny, but the main symbol of christianity is a Jewish fella killed by other Jewish fellas. Could it lead to Jewish pressures to change the symbol into, let's say an innocent lamb?

Oh wait! They killed lambs too!

Life / "I love you" in Polish culture... [36]

I heard people say "I love this toiled bowl", standing right next to their so called loved ones (not toilets). I guess that must have made the loved ones feel great, to to share someone's love with a sshiter.

To be fair, the toilet was a water efficient one though, and very expensive .

Life / People with Down Syndrome/Mental disability in Poland [26]

how can you have better genes if your country is closed of to outsiders completely. One benefit of historical immigration is that differant patterns of gorups of people breeding with other groups actusally creates STRONGER genes and weeds out weaknesses in genetic codes by natural selection.

britian having an ethnic mix of germanic, anglo saxon, celtic, scandanavian, iberian etc. etc and having suffered mass 20th century immigraiton, gives US better genes.

Apparently your genes are not of the highest quality if you spill letters into the computer without understanding of what you are writing about. Polad was traditionally a multicultural society: Poles, Ukrainians, Swedes, Germans, Lithuanians, Latvians, Hungarians, Mongolians, Turks, Jews, Czechs, Russians, Tatars, Scotts, Greeks.

Back to the topic; when I lived in Poland there was a separation of the handicapped/mentally retarded from the so called normal kids. They went to separate schools that were designed specifically for persons with disabilities. Not too many were seen in the streets. I think Poland will take a few more years before all the facilities and awareness matches that in some other countries.

News / Apology to Russians for Osetia and American missile base [78]

Need more?

If they are of the same mediocre quality then save your time and mine for something better.

1. There was no referendum. I asked whether there was one.

2. The links are hilarious. They prove either nothing, or the opposite. When GW interviews 500 people and presents the results as representative that means they have no idea about statistics. The sample is simply too small.

Love / Seductive and passionate words towards a young Polish woman [48]

car can be small, but if it breaks down all the time... or if it's big, even with a high millage, but runs perfectly....

Yeah, I tried a few of those big reliable pieces of junk. Ford, Chevy and Buick - none lasted over 100K. I had a small Accord. I sold it when it had 280K and I saw it 3 years later. Someone still drove it.

Ever wondered why GM is deep you know what? Irresponsible manufacturing strategy and poor quality. Closing factories all over the place and $15B in the red for the last fiscal period. Highest in their history and no sign of improvement.

News / Poland to open its first-ever baby store selling human babies [21]

english.pravda

Nothing new, and the idea is very old.
Notice the headline though. As usual, Pravda managed offer sensationalism and a lie in just one newspaper heading:

Poland to open its first-ever baby store selling human babies at 22,000 dollars

first-ever - a lie
store - a lie and sensationalism
selling - sensationalism and parabola
human babies - what other babies?

No wonder they chose Pravda (The Truth) as their name. Otherwise there would be zero truth in their publications.
