Travel / Going to ski to Poland. Maximum snow? [29]

Im only going to take the board out if we get some powder, i need to put fresh lines in untouched snow. I just gotta do it.

Yeah, I won't have a chance to go out in these perfect conditions, blast it!.
Well I will comfort myself with the knowledge that last year I was snowboarding up untill the end of March, so plenty of time left..... I hope ha ha ha.

Maintain integrity at all times, its the essence of yourself.

On this note I have learned something, your word is your honour.
All we have in this life is our honour and if you say you will do something, you must do it well.
Take care.

Travel / Going to ski to Poland. Maximum snow? [29]

gimme some powder.

Ha ha ha, I spent hours this morning waiste high in powder, climbing up the ladder, in a river, cutting down branches that are lying on the electricity cabel(again) and all the snow covering me....

This is the most snow I have seen here but this is only my second winter in this place.

I didnt like Slovakian resorts

Ah, they might be better now? I don't know.

Let me know when/if the conditions get better in Wroclaw and I will go up.
I am assuming it is not even close to the end of the season there?, it can't be but I just want to be sure to be sure;)

Travel / Going to ski to Poland. Maximum snow? [29]

Just to let everyone know, there is well over a metre of snow south of Krakow.
And it is about minus two, so excellent conditions for skiing but obviously travelling will be slow.

Next week they say it will get colder on the weather forecast, minus 15 at night and minus 6 or 7 during the day.

It looks really beautiful but I have to use the snow shovel, not only to find the car but also on the care before I can use the brush and scrapper.

It takes ages and you have to leave about half an hour extra for the whole procedure but I don't really mind, it is still exciting for me :)

Food / Vegetarian food in Poland? [83]

I don't know about "Green Way" but I can eat a full dinner with drinks in "Vega" for 25PLN.
But for a delicious mixed salads (4) and a drink for a 10 Zloty and that would fill you any other time of the day no problem.

Vegetables are cheap and delicious here.

It is easy enough being a vege here, prepared soya bits are sooo cheap in he shops, about 3:50 Zloty a pack, marinate over night, lovely, you can batter them in bread crumbs too.

It might be me, but it all looks about 3% smaller than I expected!

3%, how did you come to that conclusion?.

It's also nice to see that the courtyard looks bright.

There is one section at the end of block "B" in the first photo that looks very dark.
Apart from that it looks fine.

In the 2nd photo you can see the hotel being built across the road.

I liked the look of the 3rd photo, nice feature.

The last photo is of the underground parking.

I also have many photos of the interiors, they are very well thought out.
The plumbing and wall lights are all in easy to finish places.
But they are behind and it needs to be finished well.

News / More and more jobs moving to Poland from other parts of Europe... [50]

Dell moves to Poland

This is very bad news for Ireland.
I was talking to a mate from Ireland who works in IT.
He said one day last week they let go of 300 people and the very next day an email was sent to all employees welcoming the new 120 Polish (in Poland) people who have joined the team.

This was of course a very stupid action.

victory of PO over PiS

We can just called them number twos and number ones.

Love / Younger foreign man dating older polish women ? [28]

Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted, counts.

I did not mean to offend you Marco78, I still do not understand your maths but as you said it is not the point of this discuss.

I don't think there is a big thing about age, when everyone involved is old enough.

Good luck

News / Stealing electricity in Poland... being resourceful or theft? [21]

A mate of mine from South Africa was burgled years ago, strange thing was that nothing was taken.
They found the sound system in the middle of the floor.
Then they noticed a knife with a big burn mark in it on the floor next to the cable that had been cut.
So they puzzled it together from the clues.
Many people don't have electricity.
So the burglar must have thought that the sound system was tied to the wall and tried to cut through the 'rope', which obviously led to a shocking experience and the flight of the wanna be burglar.

There are many many very funny stories from S.A.(others very serious) and every time I see this post I think of this particular story.

Real Estate / Angel city Development in Krakow [33]

I was in Angel City yesterday to see how things are proceeding.
The builder told me, realistically it will be the beginning to mid April before absolutely everything is finished.
Block "A" is further on than Block "B".
Some people have taken over their apartments already.

I am doing a number of finishes in Angel City and Wislane tarasy.
For further information, you can email me on domator.invest@gmail

Here is the fronts and the court yards of block "A" and "B".
There is still quite a lot of construction to be done inside.
I have very many photos of both blocks and the new drawings with the newly allotted apartment numbers, if anyone is interested.

Travel / "Ryanair cuts 11 routes to Poland" [29]

Szarlotka Airways

Is this the type of airlines that you check yourself in, strip searched yourself, abused yourself in a customs officers military uniform, take the word "terminal" literally, you have to bring your own chair, you must be able to fly the plane and even have to provide the vehicle?.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

It does strike me, that for all the moaning about Ryan's bad service and all the corners cut, we like it .
The low cost gives us the right to complain! ha ha ha

Love / Younger foreign man dating older polish women ? [28]

after all an averege woman live 10 years longer than averege man, so if they are same age she is going to be alone for 10 years maybe, and if HE is 10 older then she is likely to be alone for 20 years! :(

There is a problem with your mathimatics on this one.
- average woman live 10 years longer
- if they are same age she is going to be alone for 10 years
- if HE is 10 older then she is likely not to be alone!
- And here is the kicker if HE/YOU is ten years younger she is likely to be alone for 20 years!

I don't care, if you like older women, so what, non of my business.
It is probably better if you find an individual who you like and ask her on a date.
All these hypothetical situations do not help anyone.

Good luck.

Travel / I am free - Hello Poland. Need advice about travelling in Poland. [16]

Driving there now might not be a good idea at this time of year.

I would advise winter tyres as someone else I think suggested already.
Summer time is much easier, it gets fairly hot here.

I have read booking a holiday online without a UK passport sends some sites into a spin, I have an Irish passport

I also have an Irish passport and it is absolutely no problem.
They are probably British travel agency sites and therefore you might just be a round peg in a square hole in their system.
It happens often with computer programs designed for the natives of Britain.

I will be in London next week and book something in a travel agent there.

You can find inexpensive plane tickets on line ranging from 40 Euros (if you are very lucky) to 150 Euros return (if you are not so lucky) return.

There are a whole host of low cost airlines to various parts of Poland.

if I have any more questions do I just add to this thread one or add to an existing thread, say the SeanB's kracow thread ?

Well the idea is to add to existing threads, if your query is relevant to the title and first post.
Therefore the next person looking for information can find all the relevant info in the one place.
If by chance you do not see a relevant thread, you start a new post.
It may take a while for someone to reply.

This is my first and only forum, it took me a while to get to know the ropes.

is it possible or pleasant to walk from Krakow to Myślenice ? I like urban walking.

The walk from Krakow to Myślenice is a rural one, it is about 35 Kilometres along the zakopanska dual carriage way.
But there are probably nicer alternative routes. (bus costs 1 Euro).

For Urban walks I recommend Krakow and Nowa Huta, both very interesting and different from each other.

(Nowa Huta is a communist built satellite city built around a steal works factory, so industrial communist and interesting)

Life / 52% Poles: life in Poland is bad... [46]

I will assume that your girlfriend does not come from there.
Only because she informs us that there is no life there.
So it begs the question if there is no life here, I mean there, how does she know?.
Or is it more like there was life there, when she was there but then she left and now there is none? .
In which case I suppose my next question would be, where was she coming from to get to there and inhabit the place before she left for Birmingham?

Your girlfriend is too clever for me.

Real Estate / Angel city Development in Krakow [33]

the state of the common areas (stair, lift wells etc) we're still at least 6 weeks

I agree with these observations.

The penalty clause is 11,000 Euros for the client I am dealing with but Angel city developers are claiming it is
:

Dear sir etc...

We had a problem with the agent of the Krakow Municipality, that was carrying out it's own road and building investment in our neighbour hood and forced us to suspend our works for 2 months; there was also another problem with the utilities providers, that imposed on us additional works and requirements that were previously established in the contract. We were forced to carry out new works that lasted about a month and had to incur additional costs.

I am really sorry....

I.e. not our fault and therefore no penalty clause.
I have received no back up information about this.

From the street the building looks fabulous.

Travel / I am free - Hello Poland. Need advice about travelling in Poland. [16]

please say this is so.

This is so.

Ah look, parking is a problem in every big city in the world.
Places like Krakow are no exception.
I recently drove across Europe, I found inexpensive places to sleep out side cities and took buses/trams/trains in to the cities.
This way you don't pay for parking, you don't worry about theft so much, you get to see more and it all works out cheaper.

I like to talk, walk and look at things.

There are many walks for example south of Krakow Walks up the Beskid mountains (click here)

It is easy to travel here and given the exchange rate at the moment, it should be cheap enugh for you.

When are you planning on travelling around Poland?.

Travel / I am free - Hello Poland. Need advice about travelling in Poland. [16]

Hello FrankPark,

And welcome to the Polish Forum.

Does it get that cold ?

Yes but not often, still even minus 15 would be difficult in a car.
Places to stay are many and varied, some are inexpensive.

Is it possible to find simple accommodation as one wanders ?

Yes but I advise to find a place during the day light hours as I am sure you know.
There are many "Pokój" (rooms) "noc leg" (accommodation).

I also recommend Zakopane.

Maybe the Architecture thread (click here) or the wildlife thread (click here) will be of interest to you?.

There are many threads perhaps you could tell us what you like

And please feel free to add any relevant information to these threads.

Where are you from? (I know that can be a tricky question). Wales/London?

If there is any thing further I can help you with, just ask :)

Good luck

News / Polish engineer beheaded in Pakistan. [347]

33.881817,72.218628

Ah I see thank you.

------------------------------------------------------------

The Polish media are taking this as a personal attack it seems.
As if the Taliban did this because Mr. Stanczak was Polish.

Would any of you agree with this?, or was it more of an attack on a western target, possible high profile?.

Perhaps there is not enough information to make an informed opinion yet, I don't know.

However his nationality was apparent to them because they did force Mr. Stanczak to say "urge the government to withdraw its contingent of about 1,100 troops from Afghanistan, where they are helping fight Taliban insurgents."

Thats why I said half-assed fighters with no clear objectives. Kidnapping an innocent low profile civilian and demanding the release of their most notorious fighters is ridiculous. Killing him would do them more harm than good. Just an cowardly act of frustration I guess

"The hostagetakers initially wanted the release of 60 Islamist fighters held in Pakistan. Then they brought down the number, and ended by demanding the release of no more than four detainees"

From the link on the original post.

It would appear that you are correct in your post, that these people were half-assed fighters with no clear objectives.

He was kidnapped near Attock, a town in the north of Punjab.

I am just looking to see where it all is, where is Attock exactly?.

Perhaps there is a better map?.

News / Polish engineer beheaded in Pakistan. [347]

obl = osama bin laden

ksa = kingdom of saudi arabia.

It is obvious now that I can see it.

-------------------------------------------------------------

What exactly was the late Mr. Stanczak doing in Pakistan?.
I read he was a geologist, does anyone know?.

You must stick out like a big dollar sign being western walking around Pakistan?.

I would imagine anyone working there is aware of the risks?.

I am not saying it makes it any better.

News / Polish engineer beheaded in Pakistan. [347]

Yes, the ultimate cash crop, the biggest chunk of their GDP.

That would be the logical place to start then, wouldn't it?.

Killing him would do them more harm than good. Just an cowardly act of frustration I guess

Yes it is very cowardly and you make a good point here about the ridiculous exchange.
Governments can not give in to this type of thing.
And to me it seems as if they were ill-equipped and frustrated by this policy.

ah, that is where obl comes in. there billions of $ coming from ksa towards this cause.

Sorry plk123, who or what is obl and ksa? and why would they support the Taliban?.

but obviously not true as talibs are against narco markets.

Obviously it is not part of the religion but with some warped logic it would be easy to justify, don't you think?.
By warped logic I mean sell the drugs to the infidels in the west, they will do our job for us and give us the money to fight.

I am just putting a theory out there, I don't know.

--------------------------------------------------------------

With all due respect, I have to ask you plk123, how is it you know so much about this topic?.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Jihad and Crusades all over again?.
I see a lot of angry posters who are implying retaliation using equally heinous tactics that are used by the Taliban.
It is understandable to a degree and I am neither for or against such talk, I just thought I would point it out.
