UK, Ireland / Polish Nights in the UK [29]

I've had some good nights out at the Polish Cultural Centre at Ravenscourt Park (nr. Hammersmith), but are you meaning club nights e.g. with DJs rather than bands?

Love / English Girls according to Polish Guys....... [68]

I get a bit weary of these kind of threads.... sure there are British mingers that Polish guys might not go for, but then again there are stunners like me that are so gorgeous that the average Polish guy would be too much in awe of to approach :)

Life / Gay scene good in Poland? [66]

Go to Berlin.... excellent gay scene there.

Actually, I've got an article on Warsaw's scene that appeared in AXM at the end of last year. I'd scan it and e-mail it to you, but I'm not sure whether you're a troll... sorry.

Life / Should I expect culture shock when coming to Poland from the US or UK? [34]

come on, give us a few clues....

Where in Poland? There's a huge difference between Warsaw and a small village in the mountains.

And where in the US / UK would you be coming from? Massive difference between NYC and Alabama... likewise London and Cornwall.

Travel / My first 10-day tour to Poland [30]

Whereabouts are you going (i.e. cities)?

I don't speak Polish but have been fine in Warsaw, Krakow and Lublin.

Life / Polish Train Travel - Scary? [101]

Hi there, I guess you need to keep your wits about you anywhere in the world, but my first time in Poland I had to travel around by train - sometimes on the sleeper / night train when I had to travel long distances (company was too tight to pay for a flight LOL), and I had no trouble at all.

Food / Lovely Polish drinks! [13]

I keep hearing about drinking apple juice with Zubrowka - now, would this be the cloudy kind of apple juice that you pick up in the healthfood stores, or should it be the clear, beer coloured stuff? Or does it not really matter?

Or maybe I should just get myself back over to Poland to find out for myself.

Language / Does anyone know of real Polish translation tool on web [6]

No - people who use online translation tools should be slapped on the face with a wet babel fish.

I spent years studying languages (sadly not Polish <weep> ), and dont want to be replaced by a website, ta very much.

News / Poland adopting the Euro, but when? [65]

Quoting: the_falkster
"get a lot(y) for your money"...

nope, get flight for your Zł.

loty = flights

Wow.... how clever is that??! As a non-polish speaker I made the same assumption as Falkster... Genius play on words.

News / Poland adopting the Euro, but when? [65]

I would have thought it would be a surprisingly few actually since their currency is advertised...same as the Czech currency on most currency lists in most exchange places these days.

Really, you'd be surprised. I was discussing an ad for Wizz Air with a colleague (fairly smart individual) recently - he didn't get the line "get a loty for your zloty" until I explained that the Euro wasn't the currency in Poland.

I guess if you're not used to looking for Zloty / looking out for the Polish flag, you don't tend to think about it.

News / Poland adopting the Euro, but when? [65]

It's amazing how many people in the UK think that the Euro is already the currency in Poland. Before my last trip, my dad offered to give me some Euros that he had left over from his trip to France :)

UK, Ireland / Chicken cottage staff speaking polish in East London [8]

That is pretty cool.

I'm wondering if / where there were any subsidised schemes in East London for learning Polish... some kind of community backed scheme or something like that.

Love / What to buy my Polish girlfriend for Christmas? [9]

How about getting lots of Polish food in - and then trying to recreate a bit of a Polish Christmas theme. Probably lots of people on this forum who can help you with that.

But then again, maybe she is looking forward to an English xmas....

Life / The Criteria of Living in Poland [4]

Only you can really answer that... have you lived overseas before? Are you generally easy-going? Can you adapt well to new situations and surroundings? Prepared to get out and meet new people? Do you speak the language or are prepared to make an effort?
