My first 10-day tour to Poland

My son & I are making our first trip in Sept. We are going on a 10 day tour. Does anyone have any opinions on an organized tour? I forgot most of my Polish over the years. Is that going to be a problem. What are the best things to bring back? Other than vodka. Amber, candy? Is there any where to get farmer cheese? The kind my grandmother used to make.

Are you going to visit family there or is it just a tour? I heard they are OK.
Most stores sell farmers cheese (biały ser) in the nabiał section. What to bring back? Depends what you like. I like books so I always buy books in Poland when I'm there because they are cheap. Lots of nice souvenirs you can buy.

Whereabouts are you going (i.e. cities)?

I don't speak Polish but have been fine in Warsaw, Krakow and Lublin.

We're scheduled to go to Warsaw, Krackow, Zacopane & Czesthowa. I am so happy i can get some farmer cheese. I suppose this is something I can't bring back to AZ? I'm going to check out the amber while I'm there. Are there any places to buy art, prints not the expensive ones. I'd like some pictures of what the old Poland looked like. My grandmother came from places that had thatched roofs. My grandfather came from Stary Szor. Does anyone have any info on that? Sorry I'm rambling..............

What are the best things to bring back?

You can get nice carved wooden boxes We have quite a few and add to our collection each time we go there. You will get them in Krakow. We like to buy books too.

Me too, I have close friends in Czestochowa and visit there once a year. Some people will say it's an ugly city but I really love this place.

Best time to visit is in the pilgrim season around 15th August.

Some decent shops and nice bars and restaurants.

Try yo visit Olsztyn castle about 30 mins drive away.

Yes, it is pretty there on a small hill. When we were there it was winter time and it was cold but in the summer it would be much nicer. When I used to visit Poland, we used to visit the summer fair held in the Polish town of Mstów, which is held d in June of each year, if I am not mistaken. I never go to Poland now so am not really up to date. Częstochowa itself is a dump with a steel works.

If you never go to Poland now and it's been a long time since you were there, how do you know Częstochowa is still a dump ?

Everywhere changes over a period of time and you may give some people the wrong impression of area's in Poland (as it is now).

Believe me, Poland can never change for the better. I know Poland very well indeed-same old steets, same two faced people and the same thieves and liars. Sorry, but I have seen it all in my time.

I have to disagree with you Michal. You seem to be living in the past, off old memories and you appear to not like Polish people at all.

I'm sorry that you are so bitter and twisted, it must make you a very unhappy man ! Hope things get better for you one day

Kmiot, It's the same s*hit again and again. All the Poles here got used to that you can't even **** them off, so what's the point ?

I think Gregorz that people like Michal deserve our pity. They do not appear to be able to cope with modern day life and make up stories off the past, in order, to try and impress complete strangers of their so called knowledge.

It is so very sad because they do not understand, that what they write is utter garbage. Best to humour and pity such people. They must have many problems in their private life that their only escape from reality is to come onto a forum and write such drivel over and over again.

Dude has been doing that since almost a year. Imagine how f. up he must be.

Yes ! And if he has been doing that for such a long time, then that just goes to show how sad he has become. To do that for over a year must mean he has a very, unhappy and stressful private life and no other interests to concentrate on. So he switches on his computer, heads off to Polish Forums and types in such bitter words and waits for the inevitable replies so that he has someone he can argue with. This way he gets rid of all his stress, then he can return to his real life and act all meek and mild again. As I said before , a man to be deeply pitied.

ng that since almost a year. Imagine how f. up he must be.

It should be 'for almost a year' or 'since last year'. It is not grammatically correct to say 'since almost a year'.

Hello Michal,
I have to say, that you have no idea what you are talking about. I have been living here in US and in my native Poland within the last few years. Poland has changed - of course it still needs a lot of work, but you have no idea how it is over there. It is different every year, and I see more and more improvements - every time I go there.

Everywhere you can find unhappy, dishonest, complaining people. It is not only Poland. My city (Bielsko-Biala) within the last few years has changed to the point that I couldn't recognize it.

It never seems to amaze me how the Poles so hated the English speaking World yet all these Poles living in the United states of America and Canada. In Moscow, I heard nothing but criticism about Churchill. You Poles want to be experts and know it all now. from Poland BUT living in the new capitalist West. Same old story-do as I say not as i do. End of story.

Well, I know where Stary Szor is.
I grew up 3km from that village, in the same parish.

Stary Szor is ~30km NE of Bialystok city. It belongs to "Stara Rozedranka" parish.

We are thinking of joining a tour heading to Poland in Sept also. I have no details, we heard of it though a client of my husbands. I was just wondering where you are from and what group you may be traveling with? This seems to be a good website to get some information some so I will check it again in a few days. Thank you! Hope you enjoy your trip. I would really love to go.
