Real Estate / Apartment purchase in Poland [226]

Why are you all so rude.

I suppose Poland was for so long "closed"country that it takes time for some people to accept that therer will be more and more investors from west europe here.

Life / Do Polish people respect other cultures? [96]

Amathyst,

Al least you know what I meant.
I didn't want to be rude or offend anyone.Just little examples....and you have the same in Poland some people are rude with mo manners.

think its their way of saying that you're worth the expenses, you know how some people like to brag, dont feel uncomfortable...some people are modest and on the flip side some people are not...

I think you are right.
It is maybe a little culture clash.....

I would be very surprised in England if I got home made cake......

very true......:)

And you have so many cooking books.......
I bake semtimes English and Polish cakes-both.
I got for Christmas Delia Smith book and some recipes there are deliciousthere.

Well not if you mixed in the Womens Institute circles Amathyst....and if you did, then its too late........"Pass me the knitting pattern..Mabel"..........Amathyst mutters, whilst maneouvring her zimmer frame

:) :) :)sounds bit like from Agatha Christie books....

History / Poland has paid £68 Million for helping UK in WW2 [168]

Frank,

I didn't want to sound cynical.I am not.

I don't know what is the dictionary definition for hero-war hero.
I have full respect for them as patriots fighting for independence of their countries. But their priorities are their own countries.

danny dan you talk crap-

I hurd some really mean things coming from polish people connected with a culture. For example they called the Romanians "gipsy"

British people call Irish travellers Gypsy even they are not gypsies.

I think it is a matter of how well you are educated and this to the way youy react. The germans in the same situations behaved like real genlemen, and I regret to say that polish people didn't.

I can take it only a sarcastic remark.

Saying about manners- it is strange but i think that british people have quite bad manners relating to eating.

In Poland if someone invites you for a meal at home or give you some home made cake - even if you don't like it you eat it politely.

English will make faces, moan spit....zero manners.

The same if someone invites you for dinner at home they always highlight how much they have spent on it ...just to make you feel uncomfortable.

By the way, can you tell me what to do when something like this happens again? I mean what should I say to a guy that says that a certain country is dirty?

if it is really dirty ...agree with him.

if it is not...laugh him off....

I don't think we should thank too much. War is not a charity. Any country joined or fighted they did it for their own benefits .

And just tell me how much Poland paid for every French soldier that died fighting the Germans at Verdun?
French military valour, not forgetting the British and Commonwealth troops slaughtered in Flanders, bought Polish independence in 1918.

Bought? They fighted for themselves not Poland .....As Germany lost Poland also got free.

Miss Poland - don't be so agitated.

We are in Eu and in open market.

The same can say teacher or nurse in UK - living i London where prices are "ENORMOUS" also growing up because of foreign investments ( Russians one of them).

it is the pity that noone here invests in Krakow area....

You may speak for the 2 million who are trying to feather there own nest working overseas, I wonder what the other 36 million people have to say on this matter, the ones who are having it tough in poland.

They will bring benefits alright, yes, higher house prices and living expenses.

You don't even live in Poland so why is your concern???????

There will never be lots English people in Poland i don't think we are attractive enough so I don't see the problem.

What about 70-80 in Poland? Polish working in USA doing **** jobs buying houses in Poland and playing big "businessmen"- as value of PLN was so law.

What about the rest of polish working in Poland and earning so little?

I think lef that you would like Poland to be old fashion, backwards, poor...so you could feel superior towards.

I don't think poles would not take too kind seeing people from england cashing in at there expense. I think poles prefer doing business with there own kind and not with opportunist from wealthier countries

I don't agree with this statement . We are in EU and we have open market.
Frank is right, is it ok for Polish to work and buy properties in UK but not for English to do it in Poland????????

We were before for so long "closed country" that some English living in Poland will bring only benefits.

Also, if I may ask - did you have a Polish real estate agent to help you buy a property?
We have. Lots of them speak English so no problem.

If poland was to relax its laws, you will probally find a lot of Germans buying up big in the tri city (may not be good for the local pole)

Some German do but economy is much better in UK so people have more spare money to invest.

I don't think every man and his dog in england will pack his bags and move to poland because of cheap homes..sorry

Of course not because of ....climate, language barrier, culture barrier, problems with work....( not enough English pubs and fish&chips shops:) )

But there will be always people like Casper, Bubbawoo who will invest for properties in good location then sell them and make money.

it is just open market for everyone.

History / Jews...and their Polish experience [520]

Well, I read many such "personal experiences" and let me have some doubts about many of them. For example I read once a speech of some "Holocaust survivor" given in some American school, that was a woman, who was a child during WW2 and she claims that when Germans came for them, she somehow escaped, but no Poles wanted to help her, so... she lived alone in a forest for 3 years - anybody who spent winter in Poland knows that It's simply not possible, especially in case of a child.

It doesn't sound realistic for child to survive for 3 years without any help.

About helping Jews- My mum was telling me that one day during war jewman knocked my grandparents' door and ask my grandad to show him the way (go with him to another town) when somweone was waiting for him. He wanted to pay for it . My grandad was tempted to go with him by my grandmother stopped him. She said you have 3 little children if Germans catch you they will kill you and us. My grandad didn't go.Maybe he felt little guilty....but during war these were moral choices.I suppose that many Polish were eager to help Jews just not everyone was so brave and heroic.

History / Jews...and their Polish experience [520]

found this unworthy of you iwona and surprised that you made it......or did I mis-construe it?...perhaps I got angry?...?

It was my fault, my grammar structure of this sentence was bad- I meant to say that they are rich but they work hard for it. For us polish it is second language so sometimes we we made stupid mistakes.

The problem with some jews is that they like to make themselves to be always seen as victims

I think that they are a little similar to polish. Their history is rather sad and in our past we were so many times invaded by our neighbours ....that is why we can feel sometimes a bit like a victims.

History / Jews...and their Polish experience [520]

You attacked me first. I never start personal attacks at people -it is very low- but when attacked I get angry.

Grzegorz post was very sensible and reasonable -it is not much to add.
I don't have anything against Jews they are hard working people and yes lots of them are rich but they work hard for it.I respect it. But...some poeple are jealous and don't like it.

Of course Rabi is holy person who should be hold in esteem...the same like catholic priest...pastor....but I would be careful at these descriptions. What is the difference between Rabi being attacked and some old foreign lady being attacked? - both attacks are based on racist attitude. No jsutification for it.

What grzegorz said:
Unfortunately many Jews (especially American) today is spreading anti-Polish propaganda, which especially in case of WW2 and a country, which lost the most and a nation, which suffered less than only Jews and Gypsies is shocking and simply disgusting.

It is true. How many foreign people are racially offended or pushed in London every day?
But PROPAGANDA- makes one accident to be bigger that other.

The problem with some jews is that they like to make themselves to be always seen as victims.I don't know why? I guess it is something connected with their history, problems with no having their own country...

And any of your arguments are infantile...typical of someone who isn't able to debate, argue, answer queries in a reasonable fashion....

You answers are reasonable.....:)

You are very boring person....sad to say this.....

no sense of humour, boring with lots.......which mean nothing.....and rude.

So you'd be equally dismissive of a Catholic priest being attacked....?....breathtaking....!

Frank,

You take things bit out od context. Yes it was racist attack but how many racists attacks of BNP supporter happened in Uk...? .shoutling England for English? I would guess quite a few.

Each country has these kind of people - very right racist wing. But as it happened that it was jewish rabin- it got blown out of proportion. POLISH SUCH A RACIST NATION:(

Frank,

Are you Dr jekyll and me Hyde? .....from your over tolerant boring pose to very rude and unpleasant one.

But your are just little boring moron playing some tolerant poses.

UK, Ireland / catholic new blood in UK [46]

I don't know why English people have so strange views about meeting people trough church?

I can only assume that because they are mainly agnostic/atheists so this idea is for them like trip to mars....:)

UK, Ireland / catholic new blood in UK [46]

buttonmoon,

I think that Polish communities are growing now in UK and they have impact on Catholic Church.. For instance in Peterborough there are so many polish people that every Sunday it is held extra mass in Polish in the church. There is also mass in polish club.

There are some Christmas parties, Andrzejki......But this is all in polish language....

Maybe you should have a look in your area for some polish club? This is usually club-but opened for everyone as they serve some drinks....

Syrena is right.....all this thread was changed into...meaning of words Polak...offensive or not.?

I don't think that this is the biggest concern and question for buttonmoon.:)
