USA, Canada / 2008 U.S. Presidential Election according to Polish and foreign people [90]

I dont think America wants another Republican President from Texas

he is quite different from the others..Ron Paul says he would like to get rid of the IRS, THE dept of Education, and get out of Iraq immediately. He is one of the few who are running that opposed the war from the beginning. Not your satndard republican candidate from TX maybe..

USA, Canada / USA, the nation of immigrants [30]

with the less educated ones it is different almost anywhere on this planet (incl. USA i guess)...

the less educated ones in the US will waste no time calling you a dumb Polak even if you have already been living there a long time, whether you have citizenship or not...

USA, Canada / USA, the nation of immigrants [30]

people do not realize and will never realize
till they come here how good it is..

don't forget about those who actually do go and then come to the conclusion that it is totally overrated...America's a great place, just like many other countries with clean-running tap water. by the way isn't Canada also a nation of immigrants? And Australia?

Language / What is the most annoying thing about non-native Polish speakers? [90]

I will tell you what really annoys me living in Krakow. It's when I go into a shop/cafe/bar and ask for something in my passable Polish and I get the reply in English.

this could happen anywhere to anyone so dont take it personally...I used to get it in Amsterdam..

Law / Raiffeisen Bank in Poland [10]

Is this bank legitimate? I've been hearing horror stories of scammers left and right everywhere

you are right, all banks are scams in a way, but we have little choice but to deal with them in todays world. Raiffeisen is legit, surprising you never heard of it...

USA, Canada / Dual Citizenship: American and Polish? [53]

I understood that the Polish Government does not recognise Dual Citizenship.

its generally not a problem. the Polish govt assumes that dual citizens are citizens of Poland, first and foremost, while on Polish territory. No one would be interested in taking your other passport away from you.

Work / Average Polish Income is 2700zl per month [65]

wake up Poles dont tip !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not true. Poles tip, but not as religiously as, say, Americans...even in lower budget resteraunts and pubs it is considered good class to leave a little if a waiter comes to your table a few times and the service is good..

Travel / Age requirements when going out to clubs in Poland [13]

You must be at least 18 years old.

there are clubs you can get into when u are less than 18, and there are also clubs that weed out the under 25 crowd at the door although 18 is the average age limit minimum. Note that your attire will also often be scrutinized at the door, just like in Australia if memory serves...

News / Is the E.U. good for Poland?? [180]

By anology, EU is punishment.

hundreds of thousands who take advantage of EU policies (such as the right to work elsewhere) probably wouldn't agree. overall Poland is doing well although many economic indicators suggest otherwise. everyday I walk the streets and I feel relatively safe, everyday I see new trams and buses and other improvements, and people are generally well dressed and look well-fed. Go to the Ukraine for a couple of days, then when you cross the border back into Poland you will say to yourself: damn, its pretty nice here after all - smooth roads, clean functional toilets, etc..

Love / Polish Men & Infidelity [40]

Is there some reason why the Polish men I know think sleeping around with other men's wives is acceptable behaviour?

a throwback to old-school communist work ethic

News / Polish people reactions towards the last elections in Poland [59]

I liked the way the present President stood up to Russia

any president can huff and puff and stick out his chest and try to demand respect, but with the high (and rising) price of oil and natural gas Russia could care less what anyone says about Katyn, Siberia or anything related...

News / Polish people reactions towards the last elections in Poland [59]

So how could you explain quote below?

An age of consent of 13 is strange, first time ive heard of anything like that in Europe, but what the hell. Dont tell me Holland isnt a democracy, if they dont like it they can vote for a higher age of consent. Holland has had lots of critics for a long time, mainly stuffy conservatves who shock too easily.

oops looks like the age of consent in the Netherlands is 16 (just like many other countries) proving once again that internet forums are full of poeple no kmnowing what they are talking about - better do your homework next time instead of listening to hwtaever propaganda the LPR begins spouting forth haha

Travel / Petrified of traveling to Poland by myself [9]

Can anyone offer me any good advice? Things to do in the winter? Good clubs in any of the cities?

Things to do in the winter: stay warm
Good clubs: Klubokawiarnia (the pseudo underground vibe with old PRL decor), otherwise just ask around when you are here and people will tell you what's cool..

Another good tip-if you need reasonably priced accomodation in Warsaw look up the OkiDoki hostel, the location is excellent and the prices are reasonable (even their single rooms are cheap I think) I have heard nothing but good things about the place, just look it up on the web and book a room...

News / Polish people reactions towards the last elections in Poland [59]

Pal, If you didn't notice then I inform you that we "joined Europe" not so long ago and If you find Holland to be such a cool country then why don't you move there ?

just because Holland is one of my favorite places to visit doesnt mean that I have to live there. Yes I think Holland is a cool country, but I make it personal policy not to go and stay where I'm not explicitly invited to do so. Poland is my place of birth and my home of choice, thank you very much, even if I have to share that home with backwards-looking traditionalist fuddy-duddies who are scared of Tinky Winky and his furry friends

they feel Holland is no longer a safe place to bring their children up, in particular they feel they are unable to protect their children from paedophiles

pedophiles, although indeed a creepy and disguisting breed, are everywhere. In Holland they feel a little more "free" to come out of the closet so it seems like there are more of them, I have not seen any credible evidence to suggest there are many more per capita than any other country

Pal, If you didn't notice then I inform you that we "joined Europe" not so long ago and If you find Holland to be such a cool country then why don't you move there ?

or to stay on topic I could have said "we voted PO so we wouldn't have to move to Holland" hahaha
