Love / Stag and Hen parties in Poland [6]

format - on stag parties we're to drunk to follow our own noses,

Seems a little innocent to me...a little like Friday night in our english village. don't you give the groom some outrageous tasks to perform like skinny-dipping in the nearest drop of water or fountain, pole dancing is good also.( no punn meant)

And what about the ladies ... they aren't all that innocent. What do they get up to ?........

Love / Stag and Hen parties in Poland [6]

I'll be going to a polish wedding later this year, I shall be there a week before and after the wedding itself. The question someone asked me and I dindn't know the answer was...........Do polish couples have a stag and hen party as we do??

Well do they? and if they do....... Is it traditional or something new?? And does it follow the same format as ours ???

Food / what is the best way to skin and cook a rabbit? [60]

the best way to skin and cook a rabbit?

Take you'r trapped, shot or roadkill rabbit and lay on kitchen table.
Take a sharp knife and cut from the inside knee of the hind leg down across the inner groin and up to the other knee.

break both hind legs at the knee and draw the skin down over the body of the animal to the fore legs.
Snap and break each knee and sever with knife, draw and peel the skin over the head cut the ears off the scull. It's a little like taking off a jumper.

You should have a complete rabit skin with four feet and ear tuned inside out. Cut off the ears and feet from the pelt and stich up the mouth and holes left by the forepaws and ears leave turned insde out and scape off any fatty areas, thenrub all over with salt peter to cure the skins, these make good feet warmers for children to wear inside wellies during cold winter snows.

Back to the rabbit...........Slit the rabbit from groin to ribcage and remove intestines, the heart, liver and kidneys keep to add to the flavour when cooking. Cut off the head and throw away.

Place rabbit in slow cooker with chunky vegtables and season with salt pepper and garlic, add 1ltr of water and cook slowly for 2-3 hours.....delishshshsh.

BTW. Just got back from Australia, and saw pleanty of roadkill Kangaroo's and only one live one. The're on the menue served meadium rare (tough iff overcooked) and they are very tasty, very much like venison.

Travel / What attracts tourist to Poland? [54]

“Świński mózg z jajkiem i cebulką” ( “Pigs brain with an egg and onion”

Dad used to come home with half a pigs head and four trotters (pigs feet) to make martadella (?) a type of brawn.

The contents of the pigs brain box was his treat, made as said and fried in butter. Never got to try it myself, We allowed him this selfish act without any complaints.....:)

News / Fake Polish Passports? [11]

It's not just east european countries who are in the fake / stollen passport market. Britian has been a market leader in forgeries since the second world war.

Saw the same programme last night, and couldn't see the point of the whole programe.
She goes around Europe obtaining fake passports, gets ripped off a couple of times and enters Britian a couple of times useing fake or stolen doc's.

Whole thing was a little boreing .........now if she'd been cought and got 15 years for each fake passport.......then that would be a story

Language / The Value of Movies in Learning Polish [40]

well movies would be very useful but

I understand what you're saying...it will be almost impossible to do.

But with a few basic lessons in Polish vocabulary, films are a great insight into day to day language, the way people realy do speake to one another in various situations.

After studying a film for 2/3 times you realy do begin to hear what is being said, the speach becomes clearer and they don't sound like a gaggle of geese any longer.

In America there is a vast amount of Polish film with english subtitle available. Just google Polish dvd and your'e away......

Travel / Visiting girlfriend in Poland for Christmas, need some advice [15]

Hi br1ev8.....First of all don't worry about it all, Polish people are very hospitable they love strangers, especialy prospective family members.

Language is always a problem but you do have a means of communication through your girlfriend. When I found previously unknown Polish family, my language was limited but good enough my wife couldn't speake at all but what fun we had with a Polish - English dictionary.

Gifts when visiting are the same as everywhere, shortages in Poland are well past, so flowers and chocs for the ladies, wine and liquer always welcome ,music cd's, dvd, and sweets for children go down well.

The rest play it by ear, be prepared to being a curiosity for a while, the kids poping thier heads around the door but you'll love it . good luck.

USA, Canada / I see Asda have wised up - they have a Polish section now [13]

They put all of the small mom and pop shops out of business.

Wrong.............walmart customers put the small shops out of business, they shop there in the thousands and say " what a pity he had to close, it was a nice business once"

News / Made in Poland products? [66]

There is a new "sklep" opened in our town. great I thought, but when i bought some food items they were very second grade. Both looked well enough but in sealed packs, yet they didn't taste right at all, both the bacon and the ham susage had smoke flavouring and were distinctly artificial.

Ah well back to the deli store at the local market.
