Language / Use of ze and z [25]

You say "noga w gipsie" or "gips na nodze".

You do not, you say gips u nogi-I read it somewhere in one of your translations.

z psem

Why would it be ze psem and not just z psem, the way it is? I have never heard anybody saying ze psem. Again, like gips u nogi, it is simply strange usage of Polish.

uncomfortable build up of consonants together.

Yes, this is what I meant in effect.

Language / Use of ze and z [25]

It has something to do with vowel harmony. Ja jestem z Warszawy-I am from Warsaw but jestem ze Szczecina-I am from Stettin.

Again ja jestem z tobą-I am with you but Ty jesteś ze mną-you are with me.

I am not sure if these are good examples but you should get the general drift. Ze is used wherever you get an uncomfortable build up of consonants together.

Life / Studying the possibilities of living in Poland.. [34]

I am a forum member too and I was in Warsaw on June 19th so I too know something about Poland I even traveled to Kazimierz Dolny and a lovely little town on the other side of the Wisla river called Janowiec. We had a bonfire outside the old castle on the hill. A really good trip and a very fine babeque as well. I could well recommend it for a holiday but to live there? Another thing all together. There is an expression, 'no way, Jose'!

idn't say it's better I said, "There are and will be many more opportunities for higher education than in the UK".

I do not agree with this statement. In England you can study almost anything and then still change your mind by doing another postgraduate course and almost completely changing direction. I know for a fact, that the Poles are quite envious of our open plan education system as in Poland it is where, once you study on an education faculty for example, that is it, its your lot-you are a teacher 'fair and square' to the end of your days, there is no going back or changing career direction as in England. I know of a physics graduate from the University of surrey who went on to specialize in social work and became a seniour probation officer-that sort of thing simply does not happen in Poland.

There are and will be many more opportunities for higher education than in the UK.

I think that many years ago, when prices were cheap, it might have been worth the while going to Poland but I am not sure today. If Poland was such an easy country 'to make' in, why are there so many intelligent and well educated but struggling young Polish people in England working long hours for low pay? There must be something wrong with Poland. As for education, England is still great with a wealth of various opportunities. Poland is better? I am not sure about that either.

It now all depends on if you are going to have a good job or not too. I was in Warsaw four years ago and a daily bus ticket cost 2zl. 70 and there were 6zl 40 to the pound. A few weeks ago I was back for my birthday and the same ticket now costs 9zl and the rate is 3zl 80 to the pound. Books are dreadfully expensive too. I was in a main book shop in Warsaw on my last day and a book cost 147zl. If you think about the exchange rate the same book would cost less in England. The good old days of a cheap Poland are long since gone.

Life / "Gdzie jest barszcz?" How do I get talking Polish with real Poles? [16]

iven the potential opportunities at home, my expectations for Polish are different.

Come around to my house any Thursday morning-the kitchen is full of them, so much so that I escape upstairs as quick as I can after coming in from work! In not being able to meet them and talk to them, I think, is if anything, a positive point. I have met some Lithuanians and they seem to be much nicer than the boring Poles. Eupoe has many races and you should spread out your wings. There are plenty of much more colourful people around than the Poles to talk to.

UK, Ireland / Polish parents hang themselves at their Lincoln, UK home [66]

There might have been other reasons why they could not return to Poland. They might have been on the run for some reason. No normal person kills themselves over a shelf filling job at Tescos!

News / Poland: the 51st state of America [119]

America has always traditionally opened its door to many working class people of every race and creed-not only from Poland. It benefits their economy as America can pay low wages and does not have to recognize pension and social security rights. There are many hishpanics in America as well as rich Russians. Poles go anywhere looking for work and seldom worry about tomorrow. That mentality pleases America and rightly so. Health and safety are not considerations in the Polish mentality so they are good cheap workers who will not cost the American Health service money when they fall off high buildings!!

History / Are Germans going to pay for WW2? [180]

Excuse me, but is Poland going to pay Germany for World War 2. The Poles stole from Germany Szczecin and they have paid not one penny or offered it back. If I was Prime Minister of Great Britain, I would invite Germany back into Poland and promise them a 'blind eye' at the same time. Poland has always got a thing about other people's debts to them and never the other way round. A strange lot all together. Still, on Thursday, I will find out as I have to try and brave three whole days in their God forsaken country. Will my life ever be the same again?

News / Ireland referendum bails Poland out [7]

slovakia et.)

Actually, I quite like Slovakia or at least I have met some people from that country and they always seem very nice. Poland, however, is another story, and yes, I must agree, it is a big wast of time and money.

Language / The Dative Case [62]

try to fool some newbie

I am not trying to fool anybody and the Polish word ku plus the dative is a correct form. If this person is so long on this board that he can not be fooled then why is he asking such simple questions that are common sense in the Polish Language then?

Language / The Dative Case [62]

see what you are saying but think you are just confusing the issue.

Yes it does. In true slovonic linguistic meaning the Russian k means towards something and it always takes the dative case. It is the lazy Poles who can only use the word 'do' for everything who are complicating the issue.

Language / The Dative Case [62]

dę do sklepu.

Ja idę do sklepu is dative in the sense that it refers to direction but in fact this is the genitive singular case. To use the dative grammatical case then you would have to say 'ja idę ku sklepowi'.

News / Polish teachers on Strike. [62]

No, especially for living in a place like Poland. I would want £1000 per month for just breathing in the air. Those old trabant and Polonez motor cars really cause a stink-believe me I was there.
