Real Estate / Current price of Homes in Poland [41]

More people are preferring to own a house with some breathing room

This can present problems for some people. Connections to services etc.

I think many people try to buy the end/last plot on the edge of a village. This way they can build quite big and get connection to services and half decent roads.

The easiest way to live alone in the country is to take over an existing farm and then, if you wish, rebuild.

This is just based on what I see locally.

Real Estate / Current price of Homes in Poland [41]

Guess who is building smaller manageable houses then, lol.

I've seen a few of these smaller houses on the edge of town or in villages a little further out.
Some of them are private estates. They are selling and occopied quickly.
Small groups of houses, three or four in a row....are not selling.

A problem with these new estates is that they never seem to have decent roads leading up to them.

Life / Teens in Poland, their typical life, schooling, influences, etc. [32]

I remember a few years ago when religious fanatics had a Black Sabbath concert moved at the last minute.
This is one reason why we don't get any decent bands in town, even now.

We have to put up with cultural shite for snobs and the social elite. The Wratislavia Cantans. I've yet to meet an ordinary person who has ever attended.

Law / Paying duties for e-bay purchases. [3]

but I'm pretty sure that won't work. Any experiences?

The sender should list it as something with less value.

But if it goes missing the sender won't get the full value back.

For example: a DVD might be listed as Media Materials. Try Games Console.

UK, Ireland / Polish parents hang themselves at their Lincoln, UK home [66]

I don't particularly mind what names you call me or what you throw my way, i've not just 'spouted s**t' i've made my point clear and i think in a mature way.

I have never had reason to call you names. Am I missing something here.

We have spoken about suicide and all that goes with it in another thread.

My iq is actually 122 (mensa tested)

I would have thought that was low for a lawyer.

Genealogy / Baczynski/ska [4]

While you are waiting for answers check: nasza klasa pl for living relatives. It is not just for school kids. Older people use it too. If you know the names you might find other relatives.

You might also find old school friends or neighbours who can help you out.

UK, Ireland / UK bus company boss jailed for hiring an incompetent Pole [71]

Surely he should have been able to see all on his approach.

That's why in an earlier post I asked if the bucket was moving. It seems it wasn't.
It was reported in the Telegraph that he was actually working on the side of the building. I'm just curious that's all.

You are right. He should have seen the hazard. And it might have been easier to see some distance before he hit it. It would only be when the driver was up close that he might not have seen it.

OK I'm gonna let this one go. I'm now pursuaded that the driver was responsible.

Law / Unique type of restaurant - Want to open in Warsaw [13]

Im a young businessman who is looking at opening a restaurant/coffee house in warsaw later this year.

As bubbaWoo says, be very careful. In short, if you are not on the ball, you could lose the lot. Some of the threads on here show examples.

Love / About Personal Problems (English / Polish relationships) [32]

Sometimes people wind themselves up with their personal problems, so some straight talking should help them to make sense of the situation. Sure it might be a tough pill to swallow, but posting lots of fluffy hugs really isn't the answer.

I agree with this.

Apart from Fireif , who clearly has a problem nobody can solve

Would you then close a thread where no answer could be given ?

But wouldn't it be easier to speak to a close friend?

This is part of the mystery. I'd never talk about a personal problem on the internet. After all, it's your friends who know you best... not us. I imagine one or two people have got so caught up in a relationship at the cost of their friends. They may have nowhere else to go.

I do think that humans in general feel the need to communicate their problems and joys, and when emotion is involved we go bonkers and common sence is out the window.

Sorry, I meant is the common sense on our part... those helping.

UK, Ireland / UK bus company boss jailed for hiring an incompetent Pole [71]

I passed a cherrypicker on my rout today. I couldn't see the box, or the guy inside of it because it was up in the air and yes my sun visor obscured the view.

Interesting. From the newspaper photo the cherry picker appears to be parked in a side street with only the basket overhanging the main road.

With what you have said and what the photo suggests, it seems to me that the accident may have been unavoidable.

I'm still bothered by the fact that there was no safety crew on the ground. Or, were they there and the bus driver ignored them ? Too many unanswered questions for me.

Love / About Personal Problems (English / Polish relationships) [32]

I guess discussing problems on a forum lets the original poster see a few alternative angles.

Do we if fact give enough alternative angles/answers ?

Leave him/her... seems to be the most common reply

Love / About Personal Problems (English / Polish relationships) [32]

I have been thinking for some time about how quallified we are when answering Personal Problems.

It seems to me that most of these are related to girlfriend/boyfriend relationships and in particular Polish-English relationships. Not Polish-Polish or English-English

Is it because some of us might have experienced something similar ? Is it because some of us might have friends who have similar problems ? Is it just common sense ?

Another problem I have is wondering why it is that the original poster gets all the sympathy when we haven't heard the other side of the story.

And why is the usual answer to these personal problems almost always: He's cheating on you, he's married, he already has a girlfriend. Surely there can't be, what seems, such a large number of people who are taken in this way.

I'd like to know why people cheat. What drives these people ? How can they be spotted before a romance begins.

I'd also like to know what posters think about giving the wrong advice, smart a$$ comments and how this might tip someone over the edge.

Does anyone wonder if some people have taken our advice and that advice has been wrong. And in fact a relationship might have been ruined because of one of our comments.

Hopefully, the answers to these questions will show that we do know what we are talking about and can be trusted.

English = English speaking.

Life / Taking gifts to Poland [21]

I wouldn't bother with perfume unless you know for sure what your family/friend uses.

You can buy flowers and chocolates when you arrive

Are you buying gifts for older or younger people or both ?

UK, Ireland / UK bus company boss jailed for hiring an incompetent Pole [71]

I can't beleive how many normally intelegent people on this forum are defending the incompitence of this driver.

I'm not. But I would like to know if the cherry picker arm swung in front of the bus.
And if it did was the driver given enough time to stop. Even if he did see it.

As usual people arguing a point, but without the facts.

smashing the front of your bus into a cherry picker, and claiming you could not see it because your sun visor was down is a ridiculous defence. And if anything goes to prove causation and the act of negligence.

The Telegraph gives a little more detail.

It was a government inspector who showed that the sun visor prevented the driver from seeing the basket.

The cherry picker vehicle was not hit. It was the basket that was overhanging the road that was hit.

Now I'd like to know if the basket was moving at the time of the accident. At what point did the basket move into a position over the road ?

I disagree - negligence needs to be found. If the driver couldnt see the cherrypicker, he couldn't be found to be negligent.

It is the driver that has to extend the duty of care towards the workman, not the other way around

OK, thanx.

My problem is: How did the accident occur ? Was the basket of the cherry-picker overhanging the street ?

Can someone please explain to me how the bus driver hit the cherry-picker. The bus doesn't seem to have left the road. The cherry-picker doesn't appear to be on the (same) road. Were there any bollards on the street, or any warning signs ?

I can understand the sun-visor blocking the drivers view, but I can't understand why the cherry-picker crew didn't take any safety measures. After all, if they were working at height there should have been a safety guy on the ground.

Thoughts based on the news photo.

Life / Cool Polish names [133]

Only I don't understand why Polish people give only Polish names to there children

Until recently it was because of the law. There are still some rules about naming children in Poland. If they don't translate, you can't use them.

Genealogy / Lost Great Grandmother (Mary Rucinski/Szymanski) [24]

The last known residence of my great grandfather was Iwaniska, Poland

JewishGen shows this as 28 miles east-south-east of Kielce. 1900.. Russian empire.

Do you have Naturalization Records for these people ? That's your next step.

I need dates of birth to pinpoint these people.
