Bizarre is the only word that comes to mind at the moment

WTF?

The post was intended to express my exasperation, as a long time member of the Forum, at the endless succession of uninformed and baseless posts on most aspects of the topic of Polish people in the UK. Tell me where I insulted you. And I have a very nice life thank you. If you take the time to read any of my previous posts you will understand my views on Poland and her people. As a taster - I have been married to one for twenty five years. Congratulations on having worked in 18 countries - 14 more and you will overtake me.

Some Poles good, some Poles bad. UK Good guys, UK plonkers. Americans. Meeting of cultures, love, lust, heartbreak, unreadable SMS messages, pointy shoes, high cheekbones, confusion, mistrust, Lech premium, Vodka. Overnight property billionaires, overnight property bankrupts. Change, integration, understanding, status quo. Read the Immigration Service website first you idiot. Harmony breaks out.

With apologies to the Reduced Shakespeare Company

Life / Surviving the Polish Winter [27]

The UK has a temperate maritime climate so we don't have extreme cold.

Only until the Gulf Stream changes as it is predicted (by some) to do.

papercut

Couldn't agree more with you.

And to further upset you and your bigoted forum pals,

Every forum gets their share of bigots who nobody would listen to in real life. Be assured that most people on here are not like Vanguard. Most of us are sane. rational people who have a great deal of tolerance nad are certainly not bigots.

Life / Smoking in bars or restaraunts in Poland. This nasty habit continues... [27]

Artificial scents are set to be pumped into British pubs to mask the smell of stale beer, sweat and other odours previously camouflaged by cigarette smoke, a newspaper reports.

Mitchells and Butlers, which runs about 2,000 pubs across Britain, is testing leather, freshly cut grass, and ocean breeze fragrances in its premises since a ban on smoking in enclosed public space began in England on July 1, The Sunday Times reports.

"Appetising food smells have increased but others are less attractive, such as stale food and beer, damp, sweat and body odour, drains and - how do you put this nicely - flatulence," senior marketing manager Oliver Devine was quoted as saying.

"We are considering trialling the smell of leather, which suggests luxury and indulgence and cut grass, which is clean and domestic," he said.

The newspaper says an "ozonic" fragrance mimicking the smell of sea breeze has been tried out in four M and B pubs in Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland.

Interesting. What would you like your pub to smell of now?

UK, Ireland / Getting married to a Polish Citizen in the UK [371]

Getting a tourist visa for the UK for an Indian citizen is easy. If you are looking for anything other than a tourist visa then things will be different. How long do you want to visit for?

what shoul i do?

It is probably just as easy to get a tourist visa to either country. Since she is in the UK it probably makes sense to come here to see her.

was it not Churchill who sold Poland to Stalin?

Is this true? How much did we get for it then? I was always taught that Churchill was overruled. Of course that could just be how he English History text books portrayed it.

Love / POLISH SIBLINGS SLEEPING TOGETHER! [172]

Firstly, you have to be sure that you cannot go on with your BF without knowing what happened and why it happened. If you are sure that it is impossible to go on then you have to decide whether you just want to let him know that his behaviour with his sister was unacceptable and unsettling for you or whether you want the full details.

If you point out how unnerved you were by his actions, then hopefully he may explain and/or understand your position and promise that it won’t happen again. If that is not enough for you that you are going to have to confront him and demand to know.what was going on. You don’t have to go ‘full on, in his face’ to do that. You can start by explaining that it was very uncomfortable for you like the course of action above. The difference is you need to be forceful but calm and ask him the what and why questions.

Sorry if I have written this like I was preaching to you. It wasn’t my intention – it just came out that way.

All the best to you.

And to you. I find it very sad when people turn their backs upon their country of birth/long term residence. I guess they have their own experiences and misfortunes that make them act that way in many cases. In other cases it is probably a form of snobbery and that rankles with me. As they say in Yorkshire, "there's nowt so queer as folk".

Life / English man is getting married in Poland - Polish Church issue [37]

It's complicated I believe. I think there has to be an annullment issued by the Catholic Church first but maybe this has changed. There was the high profile Nicole Kidman case where she remarried in a ctaholic church and it was said at the time that her previous marriage has been annulled. As it turned out the Catholic Church had not recognised her previous marriage as it was at a Scientology church.
