UK, Ireland / Sad or stupid - a Polish teacher killed whilst urinating on live rail [88]

it was an accident and it was most definitely the poor man's fault, you can't blame the rail for it, there are signs all over the place telling the folk not to go on the tracks, or high voltage warning signs. people do it at their own risk, if the guy wasn't electrocuted he might've been ran over by a train, these are the risks you have to be aware of when you decide to step off the platform. it was an avoidable accident, but sh*t happens every day and some people pay the highest price. it's idiotic to put the blame on the rail, there would be no deaths if people followed the rules.

Travel / Ryanair cancelling flights to Poland at short notice [55]

They all jump up as soon as the plane lands, switch on their mobile phones and surge forward,

ha ha so true... i dunno why some Poles are so impatient, it's not gonna make their journey quicker if they get on the front seat and then get off the first set of stairs as soon as the plane lands. it's not a bloody bus! lol! everytime i fly to Poland the other Poles get up as soon as the plane is on the ground, the cabin crew tells everyone to sit down so they sit down in their jackets and as soon as the crew member is gone, they are up on their feet again, chatting on the phone to their relatives wating at the airport. if they could, they'd start queing up to the exit half an hour before the landing. it's mental, i'm always like 'bydło przodem' and sit tight until we actually can leave the plane and let them push each other to the door. it's funny to watch the person sat next to me all p*ssed off and bent in half waiting till i get up, cos he's already got his coat on and wants to get out NOW.

Travel / Ryanair cancelling flights to Poland at short notice [55]

back in this thread again, wooop! confusing! anyway i think the best deal i ever got was about £40 (bought it in Poland, it's funny how the flights cost cheaper if you buy them in Poland) for a return London to Gdansk, only 2 months in advance (had a dentist appointment lol)... i'd probably get a better deal if i wanted to fly to Krakow, but that is on the other side of Poland.

cheap=carp

it might be cheap, but that is our main dish on the xmas table ha ha...

on a serious note, of course a normal, straight thinking person will try to get the best deal possible. especially if it's a Pole lol. it is not true that cheap is always crap. i booked my xmas plane ticket last year for £115 (return) with BA, done it in may but that's what i'm talking about. it was cheap, and it was quality. just because something is expensive doesn't mean it's absolutely brilliant. it's usually just as good as the 'cheap crap', with a few fancy things that you don't really need trown in. and often you also pay just for the brand/name.

we love to queue, VF :). we form a queue hours before they open the gate ha ha.

What a gimmick.Whats the point in them ? The plane aint going to take off any quicker !

but that's the thing, they promise a Pole that HE will get on the plane before everyone else, can't imagine anything more tempting than that! all the jealous stares you will get! i think that if they assembled a seperate gate with a VIP sign on it and a red carpet leading all the way to the plane, Poles would go crazy for it! LOL! what always makes me laugh is how they run to get on first even tho everyone has a seat assigned to them. it happens every single time...

i looked at ryanairs site the other day, was just checking out some domestic flights to Scotland, but i noticed that they fly to loads of airports in Poland, such as Bydgoszcz, £ódź or Poznań. flew with them to Dublin once, funny how all the cabin staff were Polish.

oh, cry me a river.

hey that's my line :D

cry me a river, Mister H
if you choose to hate Poles just because your stupid government doesn't punish them for speeding, then it is a very childish thing to say. boo hoo i can't drive fast but Poles can boo hoo.

UK, Ireland / Sad or stupid - a Polish teacher killed whilst urinating on live rail [88]

Rule 29a clearly states that we are not allowed to engage our brains before beginning to type.

that definitely makes things more interesting. but it also annoys the hell outta some OCD sufferers like myself ha ha (i don't really have ocd, i just act like i do sometimes... there has to be some order and things are supposed to make sense! lol)

I mean could you imagine being one of her friends there, she's p*ssing on the rail track and suddenly she's shacking like Elvis.

I find it really hard to believe that a man standing on the platform and pissing

please read the article, there is a link in the first post. the MAN (not a woman) got OFF THE PLATFORM onto the tracks.

Language / Swojego vs swego, and friends [6]

both are indeed correct, but the shorter versions (twych, swych, mych) are almost always used in poetry or songs. i think that is probably due to the fact that the author is trying to give his song/poem a 'rythm' and to achieve that he needs to synchronise the count of syllables in every verse, so if he needs just a short sound he will go for the short version (twych for example is just a single syllable, two-ich contains of 2 syllables).

in everyday language i recommend using the longer versions (twoich, moich, swoich) :)

UK, Ireland / Sad or stupid - a Polish teacher killed whilst urinating on live rail [88]

A man was killed at a busy railway station when he reportedly urinated on the track.

British Transport Police confirmed the 41-year-old was electrocuted at Vauxhall station in south London last week.

According to reports, the Polish tourist went to find somewhere discreet to go to the toilet but his urine splashed on to the live rail.

uk.news.yahoo/itn/20080722/tuk-man-died-urinating-on-live-rail-dba 1618.html - Polish teacher on a holiday in London electrocuted whilst having a wee on the tracks

UK, Ireland / WHY DO POLISH PEOPLE THAT COME TO ENGLAND CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH? [118]

when i first came to England it was like a revelation cos i was the first Pole my workmates met who was able to communicate in English on a very fluent level. I got the job straight away and they used me as a translator for a bit (there was a guy here who hardly spoke any English and he didnt understand he was not allowed to smoke on the premises or where the fire exists were etc.). i met quite a few Polish peeps here and i must admit that only a couple of them had good English skills. the rest learnt a lot during the time spent here, but the main problem is that they choose to stick with other Polish people, go to the Polish shops all the time, read Polish papers, eat Polish food... I think that's why so many Poles who are here and have been here for a couple of years already don't speak English, because in many cases they simply don't have to. They pretend they are still in Poland, their mates help them with documents, their employer gets them a translator. Many Poles here are also poorly educated, and sadly their Polish isn't very good either... I came here not because i'm poor or uneducated, or because my family is poor and they need my money, quite the opposite, but i just wanted to try something new and check out how far my English can take me. I've learnt so much here and i'm still learning everyday, both the English language and the life in England. It's so different, but i really like it. I kinda admire, but also feel sorry for all the Poles who come here without knowing any English, they must've ran out of other options to support themselves and their families, or maybe they still believe in the myth that there's work and money everywhere in this country.
