USA, Canada / WHY SO FEW POLISH RESTAURANTS IN AMERICA? [44]

happily insisting that theirs is the best there is and with very limited choice to build their opinions on.

but it is man. i've had food from all over and PL food is still the best. i have faves from other cuisines but PL food is the tits. when i cook, people never can get enough.

americans on the other hand have a much wider choice of food available to them and, as a result, have a much maturer approach when it comes to putting food in their mouths. as do other europeans who live in more open, progressive societies

i completely disagree on that. american or americanized ethnic (which most of ethnic food here is ethnic like) food pretty much suck in the usa. americans are not discerning in their tastes. i'm sorry, that is not what i see on daily bases here. ask an average yank what ceviche is. lol even if you find one who may know what it is, i bet they find it gross even without trying. lol

german,

dude, about 75% of their menu is polish food too. as said before.

It's unhealthy and bland.

you must be joking if you're comparing this to brit or yank foods. or maybe you have no taste buds.

Polish food on the whole uses less processed ingredients and more natural ingredients

i don't think you can convince them.

my bp is so low they always check it twice. it is not from eating american slop, i assure you. i eat predominantly polish foods.

sometime, compare heart attack or diabetes stats. they tell the truth.

USA, Canada / Good job for Polish in USA [34]

Trying to get a job, and then mentioning at an interview "by the way, you have to sponsor me to hire me" is usually not acceptable.

i wouldn't have any qualms about saying that at all.

Received my passport but no mention of PESEL.

I must "zameldowac" myself and need an ID card?

And re-register if they move?
Leftovers from the communism regime, I presume?

USA, Canada / FIRST POL-AM CATHOLIC (?) PRIESTESS [72]

I believe that most atheists are that way because they are too lazy to follow a religion, and its easier to follow no rules.

or maybe they have their own mind and don't need constantine's rules to tell them what's what?

let's stone this lady, she's unclean. bible says she needs to go.

Life / Bisons of Poland - your thoughts? [90]

Plk123 that's a cute pic of a border collie, is he your pet? Border collies are cool. It would be cool to have a dog that can play frisbee.

Belgian Shepherd ~mix maybe.. thnx

i had no idea coons were in poland.. hmm.. not a big fan of them here.

Very interesting information plk123.

Things like this interest me so I dig around and share.

Does Bison meat when cooked look and taste like Venison?

i've only had burger.. it's reader fresh.. lean.. looks about the same as the rest when cooked.. dead. :D

When I've had a bison burger I thought it was a lot better than regular beef

i agree

Eurola, if you want some semi locally and are into history go here next year (it'll be the same link with newest info soon): tcha.mus.in.us/feast.htm

Life / Bisons of Poland - your thoughts? [90]

my bad on the movie, it's been a while. anyway,

sioux are from upper midwest.. mn and dakotas but the horse riding buffalo hunting ones were lacotas (splinter group).. all the way to the rockies i think.

oh lynx.. rare, not as dangerous as they are very solitary with huge ranges. they are found in PL too. :)

Life / Bisons of Poland - your thoughts? [90]

bison range of n. am.

bison out west did have the prairie but east of the miss. r. there sure wasn't much grass; just a bit to the southern end of l. michigan. there used to be huge herds in the KY, IN, IL lands and most of those were thick, thick woods and swamps. So. IN had no permanent inhabitants until 1820s. indians didn't live in those thickets. buffalo however did.

dances w/ wolves - so colorado, no?

wolves are primarily northwoods creatures. there was an attempt to introduce the red wolf to the smoky mountains in the 90s and those didn't survive.. wrong species for that world.. lol i don't think it was from there originally either.

puma, catamount, mountain lion all the same big cat. i have 0 desire to run across one in the wild. talk about not being even close to the top of the food chain. lol very, very few out east.

i think there may be more black bears in the east.. not sure.. they actually don't care for human contact. they can live way up high. i've seen signs of them over 10000 ft.

oh, back to bison, i don't think there are any wild ones outside of yellowstone... not sure of that 100% but you never hear of them otherwise. oopsy:

all the others i have seen have been in some kind of enclosures.. pretty big enclosures but still not completely free to just roam.

Life / Bisons of Poland - your thoughts? [90]

Invisible lines in the dirt.

or meaningless.

I'd love to see a live bison here.

białowieska is your best shot, most likely.

They are scarcer here than in Poland, probably, though I don't know for certain. Ours are mostly domestic cattles crosses kept in captivity, but there is hope the original species can repopulate the north american great plains one day.

i don't think the buffalo here is a mix. and yes, compared to their numbers 200y ago they aren't big now but herds in the yellowstone are pretty big. buffalos can live in the woods just fine. they aren't only native to the west. they used to roam the great woods of the ohio river valley in huge numbers too.

It's so weird that a buffalo would become so rare everywhere. Not just in North America, but all over the world. Three thousand is a low number.

Bison bonasus = euro bison

No wolves

oh there are many wolves in america. all of great lakes have them as well as MT, WY and such.

very few bears

highest bear concentration in the world is shenandoah n.p. VA. there are quite a few bears in america still. quite a few in the eastern mountains, upper great lakes and a whole bunch out west.

Here, they sell bison meat in the grocery store but it's probably a domestic cattle hybrid version of bison. I've never tried it.

nope, real buffalo meat.

beef cattle and bison don't really mix politically. many buffaloes are carriers of certain diseases that are tough on cattle.

he ones at the grocery store most likely come from a food lot in the northwest and they are probably a cross between the beef cattle and bison

no man. no mixing, no hybrids.
buffaloes aren't really raised like cattle, more free range like.

cannot be hunted because they are endangered.

right but can be shot by a cattle rancher.. same goes for wolves.

The Brown Bear and Black Bear and just European and American counterparts.

there are both of these in america. grizzlies are brown and 12' (4m) tall and can weigh a tonne and are only out in the rockies. black bear is half of a grizz and much less aggressive.

USA, Canada / Double Polish-American citizenship? [16]

In the first you link you gave it reads as though you only have the potential to lose US citizenship if you had intent on losing it when asked.

or moved to another land (where one holds the alternate citizenship) and took up residence.

yeah, it's vague for sure and thus something potentially bad for those holding multiple citizenships. the state dept. could still give one trouble and even though high court has struck down some cases, one would have to have a load of money to be able to uphold one's rights against negative proceedings from the state dept.

be aware of possibilities, that's all.

USA, Canada / Double Polish-American citizenship? [16]

janek, ben, krak,

it's not really legal to have dual citizenship, per se, but the law is somewhat iffy on this and the state department sure could stick it to one if they felt like it. overall it is allowed though:

UK, Ireland / 10,000 Poles in UK for free abortions [58]

No, it doesn't. The doctrine in question is the prohibition of contraception

yes but nature is nature. you're assuming all catholics are perfect, i on the other hand know the reality.

but it isn't to many people.

i'll give you that. but there are plenty of people with whom religion doesn't sit well. religion is on a decline, in general.

If you intended it rhetorically

yes, you do seem to know what it means... puzzling how you think..

"50 bucks says this guy is the same person writing in the other thread as crocker2"

rofl, that's the funnies thing yet tonight. ok, cough up the dough bud. PM me for my addy, you can send me a blank $50 MO. thanks. :D

Life / Moving back to Poland after 20 unhappy years in Canada and USA [70]

nunczka

you either conform or you go to technical school. lol <-- kinda true.

I think that k-HS here covers what is covered in 1-8 in PL.

in PL in grades 1-8 about 90% of the information is covered that takes 12y to achieve in the USA schools.

uni education is different then that. in the usa the technology, the most innovative.... stuff happens but PL has some high specialties and it always has. other euro countries have theirs. PL's uni education is pretty competitive in nature, job market is too. it's much harder to swim, if you will. so with all the negativity and such, which is 100% true krysia, the bar is raised in a way.

oh, the guilt/guilting part in general sucks too. none of that here outside of the jews and some catholics.
