USA, Canada / Why aren't Polish people immigrating to Canada instead of the UK? [148]

It based on an observation that Canadians aren't that bright and tend to be very large and stand around with their mouths agape with their lower lip just above their navel. Just harmless Yankee fun making.

that explains it pretty well :)

USA, Canada / Why aren't Polish people immigrating to Canada instead of the UK? [148]

But where does it stem from? I've got a really cool mate from Canada, and I wouldn't describe him like that...

lol, of course there are kool people from Canada, that wasn't what i was saying. I just hate it when people brush the whole of the UK with a brush and then try and sell their own country. If a country is good enough and attractive to immigrants, YOU DO NOT NEED TO SELL IT, get my drift :).

Life / Feminism in Poland:Pro and against [14]

i've heard feminism is a big thing in Poland, they've just gotten onto the idea as the west is getting fed up with it, like most ideas that run dry in the west they get passed on east and some day in the next few years will be the hip thing in Australia, lol :)

Life / Level of English among the Poles? [64]

its probably the best way to learn english to be honest, self teaching can be very effective because you can learn the parts of the language first that are most important for you in communicating day to day. When you are speaking soe english and a communicating with people you will pick up more words day in day out and add to your vocabulary as you go along.

Maybe some people are saying that to be nice, who cares, as long as your happy with your level of language then what does it matter

Life / Level of English among the Poles? [64]

My English isn't perfect, it is actually far from good. But as long as people understand me, I fine with it. And I really like speaking English.

i think that is the main concern, as long as you can speak english well enough for people to be able to understand what you are saying, there is no problem what so ever. To much time spent on learning all the tenses, grammar etc etc is wasted in Polish schools, how about just learning simple conversations then expanding on them, after all the Poles who speak the best English i have found are those who have not been pressed through your schooling system but those who have learnt on arrival to the UK.

I find on average that Poles either speak great English or hardly any English at all. This i due to the fact a lot of Poles come to the UK and only talk and associate with the Polish. THose who speak good English are those who mix with the indigenous population. I really think it is that simple, if you come over to the UK and mix with native speakers you will pick up the language much quicker than if you only associate with Poles, not only that, you will also pick up everyday language which is not taught in the schools in Poland. To communicate on a day to day basis is more than having to learn all the tenses. What good is knowing all the tenses if you can't fit the words to make relevant senteences for the conversation that you are having.

UK, Ireland / UK bus company boss jailed for hiring an incompetent Pole [71]

It has no purpose...really. It's not news that UK employers are trying to save money and hiring people that shouldn't be driving.

that is what it should be pointing out.

But don't they have GPS navigation systems in Polish? They should do some kind of basic training to avert this danger.

well i can't tell you the exact truth because i don't know, I assumed your tomtom go was just for the UK etc, so therefore the Polish one would be the same. This works for directions but not danger signs and some roadwork signs etc.

This polish bus driver couldnt even read road signs that expressed danger.

actually i have to back you up here, if not with the bus drivers, it has been clearly noted that Polish lorry drivers and other eastern europeans cannot read, speak or understand any english, therefore they are a danger when driving on our roads

UK, Ireland / UK bus company boss jailed for hiring an incompetent Pole [71]

well as you can see, there is a lol at the end of my sentence, so it is quite clearly a joke. Yes of course if he hired an incompetent English driver he would go down too. I've had a few hairy experiences with Polish bus drivers though :) I just referred to the Exeter buses and how some of the managers there have not been jailed for hiring incompetent drivers.

Yeah, lol maybe they could have a look at some of the drivers in Exeter too, they are so bad, i mean really, your supposed to stop at a bus stop, not crash into it and nearly run down four potential customers!!!!. I couldn't believe it, the guy still has his job!!!

Travel / How Can I Not be the "Ugly American" Tourist in Poland? [97]

its good advice, don't behave out of the ordinary, obviously don't behave in a way that will attract bad attention to yourself. Its really all about common sense, if you have that then you'll be fine

Go find sth else to do dude, that wasn't my motive. You're too predictable (figured it would be you or noimmi). Nothing to do with English. I was wondering where everyone was getting this suicide info from.

don't try and second guess me or even try and read me, didn't you see the smile at the end of the sentence, no i didn't thnk so, DUDE!!!

As this is a Polish forum, it's of interest to those who visit.

what every single Polak that dies??? really?? do all Polish like to read about the deaths of the individuals??

HAs everyone else been looking at a different article? I don't see where it says that they committed suicide except "police are not looking for anyone else in connection with these deaths..." which means nothing. It's only been a couple of days, so I can't see how homicide can be ruled out so fast.

If they were hung (which I also don't see) , how can you know they haven't been lynched or sth. Yeah, can be an extreme way to think, but who knows the truth?

ow come on let's not use this as an excuse to have a go at the murderous English, lol. I knew it wouldn't take long to turn in this direction, two polish have died, so lets blame the english. ppppfffff

What would you suggest instead ?

not starting a topic everytime some random Polaks die. I know it sounds cold but its true, you don't get news flashes every day listing all the people who have died since the last time the 10 o'clock news was on do you??

Fair enough if there is some sort of accident where there are multiple deaths and i'm talking more than one or two, or a natural disaster like an avalanche, tsunami etc etc but this, not in my view

UK, Ireland / Polish workers found hung in Herefordshire [51]

Because of the strange circumstances. I posted it because of a storey a few years ago about Polish fruit pickers living in "concentration camp" conditions in the south of England. I think it was Oxford. Maybe someone else can elaborate?

ok, thats kool, i didn't know about such a story before and i hadn't heard about this one until i read your post.

Hopefully somebody will be able to help you out

Ok no disrepect to the men who died and i'm sure its very very sad for their families and friends but really, everytime an immigrant dies, or in this case two, were going to have a topic so that we can write RIP. You must be joking, what makes these two so special, people die everyday all around the world. I'm sure more Polish nationals died today aswell as these two fruit pickers.

While i'm big on respect i do feel this is going a little to far

News / The Polish president, Lech Kaczynski, refused to sign the Treaty of Lisbon [43]

Britain hasn't lost all sovereignty. Has the EU negatively impacted on ur life so directly tornado?

has it effected me??? yes, too right, finding a good place to live in exeter for a start. The more immigrants that come here the more housing is taken up so they can work, study, commit crime or whatever they want to do.

Secondly, getting part time jobs that pay well, since the influx of immigrants it seems the wages have been slightly lowered while inflation rockets!!!

My lectures turning into three hour sessions instead of two because some of the EU students can't speak english properly, hence we have 2 hours on subject and one hour on translation, lol.

My girlfriends are not always english nowadays, i mean i've been with a few girls who are from outside of the UK. Damb that had effected my life for sure :):).

There are countless laws, human rights, working time directive etc etc and the list goes on.

A higher percentage of 'rude' people as i don't think the 'p's' and 'q's' are the biggest part of many eastern european languages, JUST GIVE ME A SMILE WHEN YOU SERVE ME THATS NOT ASKING A LOT IS IT!!!!!!.

ok so some of these points are trivial i know that however in there are some serious issues and i'm sure if i sat and thought about it properly i could come up with a lot more, ow and did i mention the road deaths caused by drunk or drivers that are falling a sleep, was that a polish license plate on the truck :):)):)

Life / How do you Poles feel about the fact that so many Poles work abroad? [145]

Soo, how about the inevitable moment when Turkey joins...? do i need to ask your views on that ;)

lol, i know you were not asking me, however we will cross that bridge when we come to it :) :):):) there is already enough to discuss about the EU let alone the chnace of Turkey joining
