Life / From North America to Poland [17]

My brother was 14 when our whole family of 5 kids moved to Poland. He hated it!
Yes, the teachers were horrible and mean! I was younger so got used to it easier, but he had a hard time adjusting. Everything you say we went through the same thing.

After 10 years of living there, he couldn't wait to get back to the US.

Travel / Ticket controllers in public transportation vehicles in Poland [24]

Yes that's true. But they don't come often. You don't buy tickets on the bus, you buy them in a budka ruchu or you can have a pass and there are machines installed on the busses and tramways where you stick your ticket in and it punches holes in it. And if you don't punch your ticket and the controller comes you will have trouble.

But most people have tickets and punch them because they are not expensive.

USA, Canada / sending text message to canada from poland [9]

Yeah, it costs a little but they can get plans where it's affordable. Not all SMS's will get through to Canada. It depends on the phone. I'm in the US and cannot receive any from Poland. If one comes through, it is scrambled.

Love / Polish girlfriends family, they want me to become Catholic. [20]

Poland = racist skinhead country of the new era...

These are stupid morons that don't represent Poland. They worship Hitler. Majority of Poles hate the evil ba$tard. They are just bored, lazy skinheads who want to cause trouble.

If your gf really loves you and you her, find a way to compromise. It is her that's marrying you, not her family, but Polish families are tight knit and they want the best for each other, and they know her better than you do so they don't want her to make a mistake and ruin her life.

USA, Canada / Cleveland couple and expired visa [15]

They knew they were here illegally and that one day they will have to go back. They were given several choices and opportunities to stay but they did not file the documents.

US deports thousands of illegal aliens each year, most are Mexicans. They can't blame America for not filing the paperwork. It was their own fault. But that's typical of Polish people, always complaining and blaming someone else for their misfortunes.

First lessons are free, you hear the pronounciation and writing. I'm studying Swedish (next to my knowledge of English, Polish, French and Russian) and I highly recommend it for self-starters.

USA, Canada / Cleveland couple and expired visa [15]

They did return to Poland on October 26th.
The oldest boy misses the US and is thinking how to get back. He misses his school, friends, but he is a US citizen and in a few years when he's 18 he can go back.

But living in Poland isn't that bad. They should be happy they're alive and the kids can go back whenever they want. It's not like they're going to prison or to hell, they will just have to do some adjustments in their lives. It's not the end of the world and it will be hard at first but they have to look on the positive side. One day when they get older and they are back on the US soil, they can write a story about their experiences.

I was 8 when I left the US to live in Poland. It was hard to adjust at first for me, the teachers were mean and very strict, there was school on Saturdays, no good cartoons on TV, no cheerios, etc. but I made it and I'm glad I lived there for 10 years. It's a good learning experience.

So they will be OK.

Here's their picture in £ódź Poland:

Life / Do Amish exist in Poland [23]

The Amish were formed by Swiss Menonites in 1693. Most speak a dialect known as Pennsylvania German, Pennsylvania Dutch or Deitsch. In the 18 th century they begin migrating to the colony of Pennsylvania.

Life / Do Amish exist in Poland [23]

Many Amish families from my area in Wisconsin moved to Indiana in the 1990's. Now there aren't any left. I became friends with some of them. I was invited to their homes, one family had 13 children, Levi and Sadie Yoder, no pictures on the wall, no running water, they used oil lamps. Another Amish owned the buggy shop - they did a good job restoring my antic sleigh, another had the leather shop where they sold harnesses and repaired saddles. That's how they made a living. Couple times a year they had auctions selling beautiful quilts the women would make during the winter and a bake sale. They would sell horses and train them also.

But because of land prices going up, many have moved to Indiana and other places.
But they are very nice, peaceful people. They don't believe in war and guns, violence, etc. And they don't like to have their pictures taken.

Love / Polish Girlfriend obsessive and not trusting [59]

No, not all Polish women are like that. But I know some Polish men who are very controlling and get upset if gf even says hi to another guy.

But generally, that's how they think in Poland. If you're with someone, you shouldn't have friends of opposite sex. You should be doing things together, only have eyes for each other, shouldn't go out to lunch with anybody else etc. Relationships become like prisons. You have to be your own individual self, but some people become so dependent on the other person that they can't function without them.

You need to have some free time, she needs to learn to let you go and do things with your friends otherwise you guys won't last long. You will be unhappy.

Life / Problems with Gadu-Gadu Settings [24]

I might be guessing, but check under Gadu Gadu right under ja (number)on the screen.
Go under "ustawienia".
On the left side find: wysylanie SMS" click on it and see if you have that part filled out.
It shouldn't pop out by itself unless it is set to do so.

USA, Canada / Marriage Laws - me and my Polish woman want to live in the States [5]

It's better to marry in the US.
Because, if you marry in Poland, in order for her to come to the US you will need to apply for a spousal visa which is also an immigrant visa and that takes 6-9 months where you will not be together. If she can come to the US on a tourist visa then marry her here and then file all the necessary paperwork.
