Life / muslim community in poland [430]

wearing polish tshirts

I have a teeshirt with POLSKA in big letters on the front. I'm a bit worried that if I get drunk whilst wearing it, someone might stick a stamp on me and post me to Poland. Isn't that why some people around here wear ENGERLAND teeshirts?

News / Is it time to tighten gun laws in Poland? [146]

The more risk associated with any of the things mentioned usually results in a different level of availability. In the same way that you have to pass a driving test to be allowed to use a car, there should be controls on guns. Perhaps there should be a bacon licence.

Life / Polish Girl Fashion - "less is more"? [108]

Usually the countries where women are more independant they look less feminine, and in countries where women have less power and money they try to look great to find a man

Saudi Arabia has some of the world's most beautiful women? I must look deeper into those eyes (there's little else there that you get to look at).

Love / How does Polish men feel towards Asian girls?? [137]

There are some hot looking Asians but unfortunately when you group a bunch of them together there is very little diversity in looks

The Chinese girls in my local fish and chip shop are most probably related to eachother. They all look quite different to eachother. What Chinese people lack is the kind of variety in hair and eye colour that Europeans have. That doesn't mean they all look the same.

Group a bunch together!...

There are people I wouldn't mind being bunched together with, and those who I wouldn't like to be bunched together with. Back to the chippy, eh?

News / Another Case Of Intentional HIV Infections in Poland [73]

Are these some kind of edible condoms?

Nutritional information on the packets?

Condoms have stood the test of time

"Geronimo, my friend."

Anyway, who here thinks that people should either be morally upstanding citizens and refrain from needless bedtime activity, and who were thinks that protection on an erection is the right way to prevent a nasty infection?

Basically, I can't be bothered to read everything on this thread.

News / Another Case Of Intentional HIV Infections in Poland [73]

When I was young (in sunny England for those of you who don't know), I remember a warning broadcast over and over again on TV with the doom-laden voice of John Hurt and the image of an iceberg (how all that can be seen above the surface is the tip of the iceberg). "Use a candom" was the message. It got through to me, even though I was too young to even know what a condom was.

For some time, I believe this message was effective - it worried people into being cautious. I don't think it's so much on young people's radars these days. How does this compare with Poland, where there is not only the Catholic problem with using condoms, but there is also (as there is around the world) a degree of sexual promiscuity. Are there or have there ever been warnings about HIV and AIDS?

Language / What do you find difficult about learning Polish? [98]

All endings. There are many I haven't attempted to learn because there isn't anyone to actually teach me.

Verbs in anything other than the present tense.

Not having my mistakes corrected for me.

Life / Divorce rates in Poland [26]

last most worse

The ultimate last most worstest?

There are worse things that could happen to a family. Divorce doesn't occur in isolation to other bad things that could happen to a family - it is usually the conclusion to some sort of bad situation.

Real Estate / BUYING A HOUSE IN POLAND.. and having the seller strip it bare.. [12]

If the previous owner has taken all the lightbulbs and doorknobs, why not pay a visit to the place you have just moved out of and ask if you can take the lightbulbs and doorknobs from your old property? I've moved into a place with no lightbulbs, but this wasn't in Poland and the previous owner had had the courtesy to leave the doorknobs behind. I do have some spare doorknobs if anyone's interested.

News / Polish politicians and foreign languages [27]

That chao was about to say something about other countries "not pulling their weight in Afghanistan", but he was cut off. He was rather good with the ol' English though, and that's what this thread's all about.

edit:
This time I'm not going to correct my drunkenb spelling mistake. I'm just going to say that this is about the third time I've said chao instead of chap! Should I go to the "What Are You isteneing To" thread and say I'm listening to Manu Chap? Or perhaps I should just call it a night and say "chap" to everyone.

RE: Nobility

What does being a "nobleman" do for your country as opposed to being a "peasant" of your country when there have already been awakenings of freedom amongst your fellow Europeans? Great - you're a prince! But other people are rid of that bullsh!t - and now we're talking about the past. There are level playing fields nowadays, and it hasn't always been a comfortable process attaining these things - in every country it has been different. Blah blah blah... I've stilll bin drinkin

History / Sarmatia Europe - Could it be political reality? [183]

What European power would like to see his position shifted or eclipsed by Poland?

I don't think it's as simple as "us and them" - any given European country will be glad to have a good trading partner or colleague when it comes to persuing an internationaol political goal.

Russia, and their population decline. Surely, they are past their glory years. You would have to look long and hard to find a Russian who would be openly opposed to an alliance with another Slavic country, even Poland

But, despite this perceived weakness, Russia has managed to maintain a politically strong position, much of this militarily. Poland should be somehow bold, yet cautious. Don't ask me how - no-one elected me or ever will!

concentrate on their ties with Russia

It is my belief that co-operation with Russia would most likely lead once again to subjugation. A crucial difference with the EU is the presence in the EU of greater diversity and slightly more roguish elements (those of us who haven't adopted the Euro, for example). Poland will become stronger, and a stronger Poland is actually in the EU's interests, not a weaker one.

History / Sarmatia Europe - Could it be political reality? [183]

Dziekuje i/und danke schon! I've just been chatting with an old mate of mine on facebook dot com. One of those people with whom subjects of history, religion and politics always come up and there's always disagreement - we always kind of argue. But we also drink in rounds, give eachother cigarettes and get on well, so there!

The Poles I know or have known in my day-to-day, non-internet existence, have not been hung up on these interestingly weird ideas like those of our old Serbian pal Crow. I'd like to thank Crow for being around and representing some strands of thought that obviously do exist in certain parts of our weird and wonderful continent, but... Crow! I nearly always disagree with you, and sometimes you are even quite disturbing!

Beers for everyone!

History / Sarmatia Europe - Could it be political reality? [183]

I reckon there are some people here that we'd disagree with, who we'd get on alright with over a beer or ten. There could be a bit of squabbling and stuff, but it would be okay. There are others, though, who we'd really not get on with in the slightest.

Bratwurst Boy, I disagree with you sometimes. Fancy a beer?

History / Sarmatia Europe - Could it be political reality? [183]

Polskie piwo dla ciebie!

I think a lot of this Sarmatia today stuff is a sign of an inferiority complex / victim mentality on the part of some people. I don't see how Slavic countries are not just as much part of what makes Europe what it is, and that, with time, those countries, along with their counterparts in Eastern and Southern Europe that were subjected to various economic troubles in the past, will catch up with everyone else and not give a monkeys about pretending to be some special case.

Alcohol warning still stands - this time even stronger!

Not so much more Europe in Switzerland, but more Switzerland in Europe? They vote on just about everything, apparently.

History / Should we use original name of Berlin - "Kopanica" [103]

Veneti

Sometimes I read articles like this one that are written by people who go against the grain of generally held beliefs. Just occasionally, people who think outside of the box may just be onto something. Not in the case of the people who believe that 300 years were inserted into world history in the early middle ages, but this one about the Veneti may be plausible.

Many things happened way back in the mists of time. Don't let that mist cloud your judgement about what is right for the here and now. You've got to live for today and for tomorrow and not in the past.

News / Will Democratic US abandon Poland to Russia and Germany? [23]

Russians are ready to move on,

Yeah right!

Stop sending its youth to work in the UK and elsewhere

They send themselves, and three of my Polish colleagues are over 60. Do you dancy yourself as a dictator who prohibits people from leaving the country to better their chances in life?

Life / Who drinks more: Poles or Russians? [50]

There are more Russians than Poles, therefore Russians drink more. This is about all drinks, isn't it? I suppose a few Russians might drink a little bit of water, coffee, tea or orange juice. It's not all vodka, right?
