Clothes have to get dry somehow. Many Scottish families in houses use tumble-driers or clothes horses. It's the blocks that use the balconies as they have them funnily enough. In America?

Exactly Osioł, it's central to the discussion. Countless numbers of Brits have emigrated in search of a better life, away from the drudgery of Blighty. They have found it in Australia, Canada etc as u say.

Life / How do you Poles feel about the fact that so many Poles work abroad? [145]
I think noimmigration objects to Britain being used as a stepping stone for Poles to set up businesses in Poland or gain some valuable experience. I can see his point but today is about 'survival of the fittest' in the rat race and if u r an accommodating pansy then expect to be trampled upon.
Incidentally, there is a good film out called Outlanders. It uses actors from Poland, Croatia, Ukraine etc, real immigrants basically. It explores the seedy nature of undercutting and pulling fast ones to get ahead. I have taught this as a set, the article is available from the BBC website. Just type in Poland in the search box. Also, to make it a set, I have an article from yesterday (also BBC) which is entitled 'Illegals (sic) firms named and shamed'. It explores the crackdown on such illicit trading and dodgy dealings.
I hope the above proves enlightening for some.

One major difference is in convenience stores. OK, this is hardly what springs to mind when u say culture but it struck me.
U c Japanese people reading magazines with absolutely no intention of paying for them. I could read to a basic level so I sifted through them. I got into the habit of doing that and continued when I went home. The shop owner in Scotland invited me to leave, hehehe
