Life / Non-verbal communication of Polish people? [10]

I recently went to a Polish Deli and I gently tapped a female worker on the shoulder to ask her a question and she looked at me like I had hit her. I got the impression physical contact is not common among Polish people like in other cultures.

When I got in line, a different woman angrily pushed her way in front of me because she had been in the store longer than me. Maybe that's a custom?

I've also noticed that Polish men do not openly flirt with women when there are other people around. But when you get away from people, they change dramatically and become more flirtatious than men of other races.

Love / Are Polish Ladies Interested in Marriage to American Men? [84]

Do you want a women to love you because you saved her from a bad situation (in Poland I don't even think the economic situation is so bad) or do you want a women to love you because you are a man?

This is just my opinion but it's easy to fall in love with a man. I don't think Floridian would automatically find himself in a situation where the woman doesn't love him and is only using him. But I can see how this might be a possibility if she's just looking for foreign citizenship.

My advice to Floridian is to act like he's planning to live in Poland and see who remains interested.

Language / Sayings in English that seem odd in Polish? [22]

Here's a question for anyone who speaks Polish and who learned English later in life. What did you first think when you heard English sayings like "as easy as pie" or "it's no picnic" or "it's no day at the beach"? Are these sayings also found in Polish or do they seem weird? Are there any English sayings that you can think of that sound weird or don't make sense?

Here's another saying "a pie in the sky".

If you know Polish, you can try: sympatia.onet.pl

I looked at the website. Thanks for the link. My favorite is loveboy5. :) just kidding. I wonder why there are so many Polish men who can't find women. Do the women not like them?

Thanks for the responses. I didn't realize English was so difficult but now that you've pointed it out, I can see it. Wow. Interesting.

UK, Ireland / Want to meet up with a Polish in Blyth [37]

I think that my enormous biceps and firm, tough, sexy, manly buttocks would give my true identity away very fast.

Can we see a picture of that? :)

Love / having an affair with a Polish man (but he has a wife and a child) [266]

i am 29 and he is 38.. i never mean to hurt anybody

I believe you. Nobody ever does. But it's unavoidable. You, too, are going to hurt when it ends because even though you don't want to get too deep, feelings grow between two people whether you want them to or not. It won't be a happy ending for anyone.
