Travel / Regions in Poland - interesting and helpful website. [4]

Oh yeah, Pomorskie is really nice place. I was living there for about 2 months while I was working there. We used to go to the beach at evenings once in a couple of days. I remember some foreign artist who used to come there and play reggae right beside us for people enjoying their evening there. It made really nice atmosphere when we were laying on the beach, talking and drinking our drinks or local "Bosman" beer. :)

The weather was always perfect.

Life / Kashubia, Kashebe and Kashubians. . . [23]

Yeah, you're right. That was stupid.

Try this:

I must say I understand that text fully! It's much easer to understand Kashubian reading it them than listen to them.. ;)

Life / Kashubia, Kashebe and Kashubians. . . [23]

I was wondering, what is the general impression of Polish people about Kashubians?

Very positive. I've been in Gdynia and Gdansk during the summer and found some Kashubian station in the radio. I was listening the station for the next hour trying to understand what they are talking about.. Didn't work out.

As I heard our prime minister is Kashubian.

Anyone know do they use Kashubian language on the public signs out there?

UK, Ireland / What do Polish people think of Ireland and the Irish? [50]

In my opnion Poles have very good opinion about the Irish, there are pubs in Irish style in Poland ect.

Many of them has been built by Irish immigrants.

What do the Polskis think of Ireland and the Irish in general?

Positive I'd say. Irish music and culture gets more popular every year. Many Poles who decided to return from Ireland brings lots of good news and information about Irish which has only positive affect on Polish society. Also Irish living in Poland are good ambassadors of Ireland.

UK, Ireland / 90,000 Scottish Immigrants in Poland! [67]

This story is really inspiring!

Just imagine that, a man left the country and traveled whole Europe to a country he has never seen, in the times when the only way to travel was a ship or your own feet. No information about culture and language at all. But he learned the language and with help of hard work became a democratically chosen Mayor of the biggest city in that new, large country.

Being one, possibly he was a friend with the royal family as well! Such a big change in his life.. As I used to say, fear makes people small.

History / Fall of Communism in Poland [33]

People say that communism fell in '89. True, but... last occupant soldier left the country in 1994 as I remember. Of course they had no power like before 1989 but still were there.

Life / New skyscraper in Warsaw... [58]

Design is ready, company responsible for construction process is ready as well, engineers are also ready to start, and money is not a problem at all.

What kind of locals can stop that project? It's a district of offices, malls and hotels, not many people is living there.

News / Poles, get ready for mass migration from Russia ! [50]

I think there's some right in your words, however I wouldn't blame the government itself. I don't know about Russia but in Poland the government doesn't have any much to say about what the media are writing about. It's only up to them, and as much as they don't brake the law the government can't do much.

News / Poles, get ready for mass migration from Russia ! [50]

When you are ready, let as know :) It's a bilateral move.

You know, we are responsible for EU borders security. We cannot let people come in just like that anymore.. It's different situation than before.

But I don't see any benefits for Russia in keeping visas for EU citizens, Americans, Australians, Canadians etc.. It's just slowing down big money making machine called tourism.

News / Why is Tusk still Polish PM? [67]

Tusk is a strange name for a polish PM.

Polish people are mix of all nations living there before. Tusk, Liebenstieg or Smith can be 100% Polish as well as Kowalski.

Look at for example of list of Ministers of Foreign Relations Department of Republic of Poland:

Władysław Bartoszewski
Stefan Meller
Dariusz Rosati
Adam Daniel Rotfeld
Radosław Sikorski

All of them were Polish. It's just a name.

News / Poles, get ready for mass migration from Russia ! [50]

Kiev is the most beautiful Slavic city, even with all Soviet admixtures.
Not to compare with the Russian average.
But Moscow has guts and some post-Soviet era color.
I love Moscow.

I heard that. I was planing to visit Ukraine and St. Petersburg many time. Just never had time.

Hope Russians will cancel visa requirements for us, it's just disturbing.

Problem in today`s Poland is that Poland does not have informations. But, on the bright side, its maybe even good. Truth isn`t always profitable, as we all know

What kind of informations do you mean?

News / Poles, get ready for mass migration from Russia ! [50]

I don't mean e-stuff in stores.. Let me give you some example.

In Poland, for example, I have a bank account, secured by password sent to my mobile each time I want to do some operation, also secured electronic token (small thing that generates unique code, same as vie mobile text just different to get it). My bank e-account is connected with my brokerage office. So I can sell or buy my shares directly from one website, or my mobile phone from which I can also use those services.

So, making it more complicated I pay all my medical insurance, all bills, rent for a house and do the financial things from the bus while going to work. Tens of companies working on one software. And all that for FREE, without any extra fees. Just basic services in basic bank account.

In Ireland for example, I cannot even do basic things on my bank account during a customer service phone call. Most of the things still must be done on traditional paper traditional way in the bank (only in my branch, they cannot do the things other branches even though it's the same bank). Other mentioned by me options is still Star Wars technology.

Just gave you the first example I had on my mind. There's of course few more examples from other countries comparing to whom Poland looks very western.

Of course we still have some lacks in many sectors, as everyone I think, but I wouldn't say that Poland is technologically much behind the western countries.

Life / How do Polish people view themselves? [92]

Because I want to know some basics about place that I visit.

Usually bank holiday means some very important historical event like independence day, constitution or just simply some tradition (example of St. Patrick's day).

I never believed in "westernity" of Poland when I was living there as a kid.

Until I left Poland for one of small western European countries and saw that they are technologically back behind us for good decade already (I mean e-banking, internet, IT services etc). No kidding.

Scotland has very rich cultural traditions and history but I wouldn't describe it as "superior", just different.

Agree. However, it's maybe a little off-topic but there is something bad and common between people from British Islands (Irish, English, Scotch, Welsh) - they, unlike Poles, don't know much about their own culture and history.

I don't want to generalize, but so many times I asked them for explanation about some bank holiday (usually where they came from), historic event or person.. Unfortunately in nearly all cases the whole answer I got was "Huh?".

Face of people listening to you when you explain them their own culture - priceless. ;)

I'm not much into generalization. Just wanted to share with you my own personal observation. Hope I didn't offend anyone.
