Czarnobog:
the movie A Street Car Named Desire

It was a play by Tennessee Williams.

you're both right: imdb.com/title/tt0044081/ - A Streetcar Named Desire (1951)

Love / Do Poles ignore domestic abuse? [54]

As for getting out, isn't an option at the moment, for one reason and another. And it isn't bad enough, either, to do that - there are other things at stake, like the baby's contact with her father. Believe me - I have been over the alternatives in my mind, and staying put is at the moment the best of a bad lot.

not bad enough??? wtf????????????

you want you baby around that arse? wtf?????????????

get with it girl.. this isn't all about you but you and the baby need to be safe and it sure sounds like you two are not. get on and get on fast. don't wait for the day where he breaks your arm, or worse.. nobody deserves this kind of sh.t.

not cos they are Poles. they are just bad people. you get bad apples in every country.

exactly.. it's the same everywhere.

Love / did i push him away [36]

did i push him away

if you talk like you write.. definitely yes.. that was one sentence..

i am thinking you need to sit back and take many deep breaths and then let him go. concentrate on your kids and yourself. just move on.

News / Polish engineer beheaded in Pakistan. [347]

Indeed... George Bush was only too keen the whip the religious right into a fervour over the upcoming war with the Muslims, because let's face it, that's what it was sold as - not a war against Al Kaieda or Iraq.

how's that.. it was yellow cake, WMDs, freedom, democracy and other reasons but sure never heard that it was about killing muslims.. you're making this up..

Food / History of the Polish potato (what did Polish people eat before?) [17]

no, there are three kinds of wild rice in N. Am. that's one of the things wiki says. there is another variety in china. rice comes from south east asia anyway. not far fetched that it could have been moved to poland via the amber and silk routes millenia ago. i recall reading about wild rice in the lowlands of the Wisla delta and the wet surroundings. couldn't tell you where i read it as i'd post that up... but if i come across it again, i'll make sure to let you know.

also, white rice is just bleached rice.. brown rice is rice.

Life / What kind of horses are popular in Poland? [21]

I knew a breeder in Oklahoma City, that had an Arabian that had Polish bloodlines. He said the Polish Arabians were taller than the Egyptian Arabians.

poland has had the best arabians stock in the world.. not sure now but i doubt much has changed.

But this is actually a species or subspecies of wild horse (Equus ferus) found in Central Asia

are you thinking of the tarpans? they are actually Equus ferus ferus

Food / Menu suggestions for a Polish/Scottish night. [89]

How about some "fusion" cuisine?

how interesting but it makes me think no one would eat any of it.. i could be wrong but that's my thought since the earlier statements on dislikes of others' food.

schabowy

BREADED PORK CUTLETS with a bone (as rączka;))

schnitzel

I don't want to sound like a boor but really, a group farting ain't the best thing to happen at a party.

lot's of "na zdrowie" will take care of that problem. ;)

Any kind of soup or "main course" is fine though.

borscht? red or white
krupnik?
ogórkowa?

Language / verbal nouns in -nie [7]

2.

but really in polish that's too wordy.. i think you'd just say "on się martwi" .. i know that wasn't helpful but you wouldn't say it like you translated it..

Mama nauczyła Tomka mycia się.

.. się myć would work best, imho.

History / Why communism failed in Poland? [275]

What is it?

lol

Soviet Union subsidized

there is a "was" missing in there.

No excuse...

fail... see what i said to you above..

The USSR rebuilt a lot of that.

wow

It had Communism forced on it through conquest.

betrayal is what it was.. there was no conquest.. may want to crack a history book.

The failure to create a decent farming policy probably didn't help either.

the collectives was a farming policy.. we collected for them/you.

Who wants an imposed ideology?

In fact I never met anyone to describe me a shitty life under communism.

you definitely need to get out more then.

History / Why communism failed in Poland? [275]

So you assert that the USSR just pumped out resources from Poland? :)

sure did.

True
:)

you're smoking crack

The point is that after the collapse the products which Poland provided were of no demand in the West, while the soviet raw materials which SU provided to Poland became highly popular in the West.

u missed the point completely, sorry. try again.

Communism is failing the U.S. as we speak.

no, what has failed the us is 20years of the dumbest idea ever. did it ever trickle down to you? yeah.... this pushed the USA towards communism and seems no one really cares.. interesting stuff. for sure.

There is no 'ideal' ideology, LOL

actually, aren't they all ideal?

Please read historical sources...The information is readily available...If you want individual tutorial sessions from me, we can arrange that, but there will be a charge.

i think you need to prove your point otherwise it's just another fart in the wind.

USA, Canada / Why Foreigners Feel Need to Marry American Citizen? And Polish People [13]

2. You can stay here as long as you can and follow U.S. rules.
3. If you like living in America so much, why not become Citizen of U.S. and you can get better life on your own.
4. Learn English and understand Constitutions and you will be great American Citizen.

fail

I beleive that without marriage to an American citizen it would be virtually impossible to get legal status in America.

Food / a question about włoszczyzna [19]

^^^ i'm going to do a flamed onion and some leeks. best of both worlds. :D

I remember asking my gran a few years back why they call it włoszczyzna (Włoszech= Italy, thus my confusion)...

what did she say? it is supposedly related to italy as it came from there. which part i dunno.. maybe the savoy cabbage.. or maybe celery.. it likes warmer climate.. the big leaf parsley is of the italian variety.. etc..

Food / a question about włoszczyzna [19]

Some people use onions to make rosół, my grandma used to, but first she used to cut it in a half and blacken it over a flame. That supposed to "give a colour" to rosół.

yeah, i do that sometimes when i don't want onion pieces in there.. the flame caramelizes the onion very nicely..

My British head chef told me in UK it's onion prefered over leeks, he said leeks give broth ugly green colour, unles one use only white parts, closer to the roots

great tip.. thanks
