News / Tusk's Proposal to Change Poland Constitution [27]

Well, the commonality is that Tusk acts with a view to the next election and preserving power. Putin is of the same ilk.

Genealogy / Polish Silesians? [25]

I felt that this one should be revived. Silesian language and culture is rich.

History / "The Struggles for Poland" - the documentary series, where to find? [3]

I have the book by Neil Ascherson, quite an interesting read.

Documentary "The Struggle for Poland"

There is an archived thread discussing a PBS documentary "The Struggle for Poland" by Neil Acheson. I've found a set of VHS tapes on Amazon for $100+. I would be interested to know if anyone finds a reasonably priced set, especially in DVD. Thanks.

My wife's stepmother has a show on TVP. If it's get-able, she can get it. I'll ask.

News / All this mess about Danzig... [122]

A land that doesn't commemorate the valiant efforts of its forefathers should hang its head in shame.

Well done Poland for paying respects!!

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

The Art of War by Sun Tzu was a disappointment for me, but it espoused some useful words of wisdom.

I'm glad Softsong has clarified matters somewhat. George Bush jnr once said sth like, 'America and Japan have formed an enduring alliance, we have been great partners for 100 years'. LOL, oops

News / All this mess about Danzig... [122]

Who would commemorate the Russians that died, other than Russians themselves? Are you proposing that Poles should hold memorial ceremonies, CK?

Work / The qualifications for teachers in Poland? [101]

basilpaterson.co.uk/tefl_courses/celta.html, this is where I did my CELTA. It's a rigorous course but Jill and Berenice are highly experienced and know their trade.

You are constantly more analytical and reflective. Teaching in Japan became very mechanical, so natural after a short time. The CELTA, however, begs different questions. A fuller awareness is required.

Love / polish boyfriend has wrecked my english [48]

My schools have earmarked other teachers to teach beginners. I did at Callan and NOVA but not now.

Is teaching me patience then. Geez, be patient girl ;)

Love / polish boyfriend has wrecked my english [48]

Self moderating, that's exactly it. Thankfully, I don't teach any beginners so I can up the tempo a bit. It was like pulling teeth sometimes.

Still, it taught me patience.

Life / Indian moved to Poland [532]

I welcome any Indians. Indian food is absolutely delicious and rich. Pasanda, Korma, Bhoona, Biryani, Dansak, Rogan Josh, Jalfrezi, Vindaloo, Ceylon, Madras, Dupiaza and many others.

I'm disappointed that the Indian restaurant closed here.

Life / The Polish Moustache [35]

It's hard to top Artur Jorge, former footie coach of the Swiss national team.

Google Images him, not for length but for his brush style

Love / polish boyfriend has wrecked my english [48]

No, you are not alone in this. I find myself unsure of prepositions sometimes that I used naturally before. This is from being exposed to Polish people, not my fiancee. I don't think he has changed your English so drastically but little things sink in.

He's from America according to his profile. There are a few Aberdeens in the world, hence my question OsioĊ‚.
