UK, Ireland / Friend told "just allow your son to forget Polish" by school. [96]

I am a little bit disturbed by something a friend was told by her sons school in the UK.

Well, actually they are not living in England.

My mistake, but is English not the official language in the "UK"

yes, Polish kids are smart, certainly.

Not just Polish but all those with the Slavic languages seem to grasp Englis quick and progress quickly. (this is what I was told off a teacher)

However I really don't think unqualified teachers are employed....anywhere.

There wouldnt be and whilst you may knock teaching assistants they do have to have a certain degree of education and training these days and there are different levels and if it wasnt for them, schools would be much worse off, can you imagine one teacher in a class with 35 kids with 75% of the class no English?

I didn't know one word of English when I started school . Children soon pick it up so long as they are not in a classroom full of Polish children!

Some do and funnily enough it would seem Polish kids do the best, I was recently having a conversation with a woman who works at a school which has predominently african and asian children and they cant speak either English or Arabic or whatever asian language and struggle terribly, but she has a friend at a catholic school and aparently Polish children are pretty much fluent within a matter of months.

League tables have done untold damage to primary education, in my opinion..:)

You still cant get away from the fact that schools that do better attract better pupils and schools that are failing miserably attract those who are the bottom of the pile. Resources being spent on interpreters is an obvious drain on a schools budget and there must be some price to pay for kids that are native speakers.

Teachers at school in a multi-ethnic country shouldn't be that ignorant.

Of course we should cater for everyone that wants to come and live shouldnt we? We should spend more unnecessary tax payers money on teaching people the language of their host country? Silly me!

There are ignorant ppl running UK infant/junior schools who are worried about only ONE thing and that is LEAGUE tables.

Actually they are struggling like mad trying to teach kids English, when in fact kids should already speak English before they start school, after all they do live in England, if people want to live here then they should learn English! If I had my way, schools wouldn't admit children who are not fluent in English.

Schools have a right to want to be the best and league tables show this, how many people just move house in order to secure places at schools which are doing well? Who wants to send their child to a school thats shows poor results in English and maths? I certainly dont!

Life / Foreigner in Poland asking for information how to travel to Scotland? [23]

The moral of the story is that the UK is yet again completely uncompliant with an EU directive.

And if people didn't over stay visas there wouldnt be a problem, moral of the story is if foreigners break the laws then we will change the laws :0)

UK, Ireland / Polish workers in England, advice need to find a place to live and a job. [10]

I'll put it to you like this, I have friends who are solicitors who have been made redundant, I have friends in finance that have been made redundance, my friends husband who was a director for a building company was made redundant...are you getting the picture? There are circa. 300 people per position at present in the UK, do you honestly think they are going to employ someone who just stepped off a plane? I dont want to be rude to you or your friend, but it really isnt a good time.

Life / Foreigner in Poland asking for information how to travel to Scotland? [23]

I was surprised because many people who get married to Polish citizens need visa to UK because United Kingdom is not among the Schengen countries. They only accept European Union passport not Polish residence card. Please I want to know if in Scotland they have their own regulations or they apply the same law as UK regarding visa.

Whats the big problem, you just need to get a visa, by the way, its very strict these days they take a photo and your finger prints to ensure you are not on any crime d/base anywhere in the world.

As I have already stated, anyone can be a resident (they are just there temporarliy or biding their time for citizenship) in a country, why should they have the same rights as a citizen? Yeah it was a smart move that we didnt enter into the Schegen zone :0)

Better get down the embassy for your visa ;0)

delphiandomine. Please point of correction.I,m not going there to live.me and my wife is going there to see the father who reside over there,is just a visiting and we come back to Poland and get back to work.Do you mean passport??I don,t have passport.what i have is residence card.i want to know if Scotland have special visa requirement different than UK

you will need a visa, having residency means nothing, you are not a Polish citizen, you may even be refused that, things are really tightening up...

I don,t have passport.

You have a nigerian passport, which isnt going to get you into Britain without a visa (we have many nationalities in Britain who are only residents, they are not subjects i.e. they dont have the same rights of as those who are so called citizens), even if your wife is Polish...

Love / THE TYPICAL POLISH WOMAN? [148]

i bet u would enjoy good rough sex with albo man in perfect age of fertility, right? you would see us as animals then, not as humans

I dont even think of albos they are that low on my list, I was merely pointing out what Greeks think or at least the ones that I have met who have employed albos!

Some women like to be dirty.True some degraded greek women go for albo dirt.

I wouldn't imagine it would be many, I dont think Telemachus would be happy that his little Maria would do that to the family!

the Greeks have an even worse rep for that. Many treat women as only for reproduction there, gay is wahey in Greece.

I wouldn't go that far, more of a myth..The Yaya rules the roost and the wife says what goes...Most Greek men end up hen pecked (possibly with a widow from the next village as company!) ;0)

Albanian men are quite good looking

If you like the rapist, ive not washed for a few weeks look?

blame it on albo influence some would do that.

I hardly think so, Greeks dont even look at albos has human! My friends ex is Greek and they had quite a bit land with olive groves that they used to employ (thats a larf, they paid them next to nothing) albo's to pick and they would treat them like dirt, even lower than dirt...

southern

Your average Greek guy, his first sexual experience was with a goat in his local village and then went on to marry a girl in the next village called Maria! (for those who are acustomed to Greek female names, every other girl is called Maria, they even a "Maria day")

The End.

UK, Ireland / Polish meat in English supermarkets? [73]

I wonder how Polish kabanosy would be received in the UK.

Probably not that well.

its just so wrong to have salt+vinegar on your chips :)

An acquired taste, I remember thinking how disgusting the frogs were for slapping mayo all over their chips..

But vinegar on chips is actually quite healthy since the vinegar breaks down the fats...

Love / Difficult Polish girlfriend - how long would you put up with her? My story. [68]

Sounds like you two are incompatible.

I thought that too, funny old world isn't ;0)

Would you put up with all the above, almost daily, for 15 months? I doubt it. I've already had one cheating wife, and another controlling relationship, so I learned how (and when) to get out before it was too late, before all my self-esteem was destroyed. I got out just in time

let me just add that I've spent 12 years in relationships with Polish women. But never have I come across one as abusive like this.

Hmmmm, so the rest just cheated and controlled you...maybe try another nationality? Just an idea...

(b) hoping I meet another Polish woman soon, because they are still my first choice of partner

Oh dear :0(

Food / Łowicz BEST JAM EVER [23]

Really, I find a lot of English jams far superior to any Polish jams Ive tried, admittedly I only tried the little multi packs you get in the small supermarkets over there (I was bitterly disappointed! - it was rank!), I'll stick with Tescos finest...

UK, Ireland / Polish workers in England, advice need to find a place to live and a job. [10]

I was just wondering how you found working in England and what plans was set before you moved here because I have a friend that is thinking of coming to England and does not know how to find a place to live/work etc and is worried about this.

It all depends what he does on whether or not he will get a job, as for housing, there are plenty of letting agencies or if he looks in any Polish shop window he will see cards for people looking for accommodation or looking for people to share.

In all honesty it's probably not the best time to be coming to the UK.

UK, Ireland / Modern Plantation for Poles in Ireland [352]

My quarrell is with mass immigration from Eastern Europe

I understand that, but its a bit case of the pot calling kettle black when its an Irishman talking about immigration :0)

Tell you what, when you give is Northern Ireland back we can return the people you planted here as a swap for the Irish over in the UK, many of whom who emigrated there when Ireland was still part of the UK. Only fair. You cannot colonise half the world and complain when the natives decide to move to the UK.

You can have NI back, nothing would make me happier to see Ireland unified, does that mean I can go back since my name is Irish? ;0) As for colonies, they all wanted independence and us out, so why should they have a right to come to the UK, we havent had anything to do with most of them for decades and certainly not in my life time.

Only Irish citizens can vote in referendums.

Would that be all those africans and asians that now have Irish citizenship?

UK, Ireland / Modern Plantation for Poles in Ireland [352]

these people built the infrastructure that allows me to get to Dublin in 55 minutes.

Actually my old company who are British had a large part in the design and build of that nice little bit of infrastructure ;0)

As for your point about the Brits dividing all of the countries they "invaded" by religion, I think you'll find the hindus and muslims had issues with each other before we came along (you might be interested to know that it was the muslims that wanted their own state, it wasnt a choice that the Brits made!), also where else did we divide countries by religion? I dont remember Australia having any problems ;0)

RevokeNice

Should we send all of the Irish who are settled abroad back to Ireland? Your infrastructure would be in a bad way if that happened :0) (of course Im not suggesting for one moment that we should do that)

UK, Ireland / How can I receive child support from a Polish man living in UK? [33]

Really? Doesn't there have to be some sort of proof that this man is the father?

Yes the CSA was set up to make men pay for their children to take the burden off the State, his salary is assessed and a % taken by the CSA and paid to the mother, even if he is receiving social secruity benefits, they take a % of that. As to whether he is not the father, thats up to him to prove otherwise.

I'm reminded of something that is unfortunately typical here in the states: A woman has sex with several men, gets pregnant and then accuses the man who has the most money of being the father. I'm not making this up and indeed, there is a reality program which shows this stuff every day.

Same here in the UK sweety!

UK, Ireland / How can I receive child support from a Polish man living in UK? [33]

Not sure how it works in Poland but if in the UK you were chasing, you dont need a lawyer, you just need his address (if he is paying council tax he will be registered) and then you need to get in contact with the CSA (child support agency) - they will get in touch with him and assess his income and how much he needs to pay to you (it is important you pin him down to an address!). Im sure that there are policies in place in Poland that are similar, be sneeky and get all the information you can out of him!

You missed the point. Hint, raising children is not just paying for stuff.

Tell that to a mother who has to pay for shoes every 3 months for a child of 5! Or clothe or feed! Of course a child needs love but they also need the basics to survive! Not just the sperm that he provided, if this child was planned and he walked out then he needs to pay!
