News / GERMAN NEWSPAPER DEFENDS POLAND, KACZYNSKIS - BRAVO GERMANS! [99]

Something I found.....
Aug 2, 1945 new western border of Poland established along Oder and Neisse rivers
......but was finally agreed to by West Germany in a non-agression pact signed December 7, 1970 (why so long afterward?).

On Aug. 16, 1945, the USSR and Poland signed a treaty delimiting the Soviet-Polish frontier.

Under these agreements, Poland was shifted westward. In the east, it lost 69,860 sq mi (180,934 sq km); in the west, it gained (subject to final peace-conference approval) 38,986 sq mi (100,973 sq km).

News / Grumpy diplomacy hurts Poland [43]

Question in general:

Anyone have an idea about how to make the allocation more fair....while also ensuring that smaller nations don't go unrepresented?

Maybe there is a better way of bridging the disparity.
If I were from, say Estonia, I would have a concern...because what is the point of being in a union, if you have no voice in the affairs of the union.

Its easy to criticise, but who has a better idea?

Foremost.....what should the criteria be based upon (land mass, population, output)?
Should the country who contributes the most to the union, have the most votes? Should it fluctuate year to year as each country's statistics change?

It sounds like the "qualified majority" means that you vote on issues when they apply to you. How would this figure into things? It should make it more balanced....but of course there may be situations that arise where the opposite is true?

Love / Which is better? Being single or being in a relationship? [92]

I'm very impressed Rakky. Moe would indeed symbolise the way my life has developed.

Change the outer image, and slowly the inner image will shift to match (and vice versa). :) Try it!

Go forth young man, and choose an avatar of the person you would like to be!~

Second: Poland with half of the population like Germany has nearly the same votes....do you call it fair??? Is that democratic?

At the present time, on what criteria is the number of votes based upon? :)

Love / Ok GUYS....THIS is what women want...stop acting lame [238]

Now, Aquarius, Pisces and Cancer. Where are you?

On this menu, I would recommend the Cancer. They are home oriented...like to cook and garden. Can be a little moody and vulnerable, but if you can make him feel safe, he won't scurry away. Pisces are dreamy and romantic, but it can be difficult keeping them out of the clouds, and they are slippery as hell.

So, what's a good sign for a Taurus woman?

for Taurus...
WHO'S WHO FOR YOU - whom you're attracted to.
Leo and Aquarius are the top two signs in your little black book, with Scorpio and Taurus coming an equal third - with your own sign it's like looking in the mirror, all your good points and bad points are revealed and are addressed through each other. The Aquarian man fascinates you with his cool approach to life and love - he's a mystery you just long to solve, however, in the long run this guy's cool can come to feel like ice. Mr Leo is sexy and powerful: you can bask in the glow of his style, charm and talent, yet years into the relationship his obsessive self-interest could leave you cold. The Scorpio man is an excellent match - sex should be fantastic, and you're as jealous and possessive as each other: there are just enough sparks and just enough compatibility to keep your relationship throbbing with life for a life-time. Pisces and Cancer are two more great matches for you - they're happy if you're happy, adaptable and kind, and they dislike fights as much as you do.

Sorry about your Leo and Scorpio....should have worked. But this is only a sun sign...and you have to look at the whole portfolio=personal planets in the houses!

Yeah...they love good food (can even be gourmet cooks), good wine, good music, good everything. A Taurus would rather do without something, if he/she can't have the best quality. They like money, not for money itself, but for the pampering and comfort it can bring. So it is no surprize a Taurus man would provide his lady with raspberries and chocolate, and perhaps some champagne to go with it! :)

History / Communist Era in Poland: Some questions [28]

You would eat bananas or oranges once a year, stay in line for a pack of coffee for 2 hours

We appreciate anything better when there is less of it.

Now we take convenience for granted. My maternal grand parents did not have running water in their home. When I had spent a weekend there, and then returned home, I appreciated hot water in a tap and a flushing toilet. :)

But there is a kind of peace in living more simply.

News / A thought on Poland! [140]

It's not true...the Reservations for Native Americans may be considered as prototype of the concentration camps in Europe.

No they are not concentration camps.

The intent of reservations was to keep tribes together and offer compensation for lands that had been settled by whites. While I definitely do not think Native Amercians were treated with dignity, fairness or respect....the emphasis was more on "converting" them to whilte culture (religion, language, lifestyles) than extermination.

In clashes between very agressive tribes and the US govt, yes, there is a very sad and bloody history. But not all tribes were the same. Some tribal governments were more adaptive and friendly to early settlers, others regarded whites with stiff opposition and resisted them fiercely.

Constantine....I think you have seen too many "Western" movies from Hollywoood! :)

Nice to see you Americans are still awake!

Actually, I have to work in a few hours. Just having a little tug-of-war with my old friend "insomnia". :)

I opted to take Friday as the "holiday" so as to create a long weekend. And since we are so dry here in the national park, no grilling is permitted due to extreme fire danger.

:( No fireworks either. :(
