Travel / Cycling in Poland [4]

You will find Poland to be a great place for cycling. Especially in the country. But the roads are narrow so be careful.

UK, Ireland / Don't let Poles from the UK go home [8]

It's not possible to let or not let someone - especially that Poland is now in the EU so Poles may stay and live anywhere they want.

Work / Working as a Referee in Poland [8]

The referee situation in Poland is currently a mess (I'm talking about soccer). Too much corruption, bought games, etc. But it's being sorted out with the help of the Polish government. Maybe you'll have a good chance to find a job as a referee in Poland - because Poland needs independent, outsiders to do a good and objective job.

News / Polish Elections - your opinions [27]

say they never voted for them or their party.

Funny, now few say they voted for them; if that was the case, how did they win? :)

The thing is that all the younger people have to vote to make a difference.

I wonder how difficult it is for a Polish person living abroad (in the UK or Germany, for example) to actually vote. I doubt the millions of young Poles working in the EU would come back to Poland to vote. It should be an easy process, but it's probably not.

Life / Surviving the Polish Winter [27]

I would argue with that - even though Krakow is close to the mountains, it's down South of Poland too so I think an average winter temperature in Krakow is one of the warmest in Poland.

Travel / Top 5 reasons to visit Poland ! [43]

If you mean visiting Poland on vacation and you don't have relatives in Poland (that would be the most important reason in most cases), here are some other reasons:

1. Friendly people (most of the times).

2. Good cuisine.

3. Some nice old towns/cities.

4. Baltic sea region

5. Tatry mountains region

Law / Coal Alternatives in Poland: The new electricity market [21]

Well, coal may be not the most efficient source of energy, but when the price of oil is so high countries will still depend on coal - in the long run. So coal mines in Poland may thrive even more than in the communist era. Especially that Russia is not cooperating as far as gas exporting to Poland is concerned.

Law / Importing goods from China into Poland [3]

For sure they will want you to pay customs fee. I think the freight forwarder should be able to take care of this for a service fee.

Travel / zloty or Euro [33]

In Poland - zloty of course. There are many places that will gladly accept Euros, but the exchange rate will always be against you so it's better to use your own Zlotys.

USA, Canada / Importing a car from the US to Poland [12]

If you're going to visit Poland for on long-term basis (let's say for 10 years or so), I would think it makes sense to import a car to Poland from the US because cars in Poland may be 30%-100% more expensive than in the US (especially the luxury ones).

I found some info and here is what they wrote:

- transportation cost - about $1,200

- tax - 10%
- akcyza (another tax depending on the engine capacity) - 13%
- vat (yet another tax) - 22%

In fact the car would cost you: the value of the car + 35%+$1200. So if you buy a car for 20K, it in the end costs 27K+$1200=$28.2K.

The more expensive car, the better to import it to Poland.

USA, Canada / Importing a car from the US to Poland [12]

The best would be to move the car or any other goods through repatriation. So if you or another person moves to Poland permanently, you don't have to pay any taxes if you move up to 2 cars (I think).

Law / Is there money in English Proof Reading in Poland? [7]

I would say the market is saturated; there are many companies or freelancers that do that. However, the quality of their job is usually average so there's always a chance for improvement.

Law / Investing in Polish stocks and bonds [8]

Investing in stocks is risky business. If you only plan to be in Poland for 6 months, it may not be the best idea to invest your money (especially now when there's a chance the market will go down not only in Poland but overall in the world). I would try bonds instead (risk-free, but I'm not sure if you could buy 6-month bonds) or simple putting your money in the bank to get 3-5%.

Law / can a polish one-person company run in Uk [3]

Don't see a reason why not. Being self-employed gives you a lot of choices; it could be even possible for him to chose where to pay taxes (in Poland or in the UK). He needs to talk to his accountant, but it can surely be done.
