i am a little suprised however that they couldnt find anything more worthy than some interstingly designed carpets and rugs...

It is not first award for Polish designers, this time designers of carpets have won.

News / US dollar still falling... Change in Poland? [37]

It's probably going to get worse before It gets better.

:)))

if you ask me, considering flow of finances, with every new day we are closer and closer to Slavic Alliance

I agree, not alliance. Cooperation, it would be the best. There is one problem with Russian attitude towards some slavic countries ;)

News / US dollar still falling... Change in Poland? [37]

The Zloty will not stay as high, in my opinion against most other currencies.

I hope so ;)

Once the world recession hits I suspect the Polish economy will be hit very hard as its very dependent on overseas investors.

It will be hit ... I don't think that harder than economies build on mortgages ...

we will see what will happen. I consider Polands situation as good in comparison to some countries.

I remember when I was telling here half year ago (or even more) about EUR/USD and opening positions ... and about crisis in USA ... :P

we will see.

as to Dollar trend look here:

stooq.com/q/?s=usdpln&c=5y&t=l&a=ln&b=1

as to Euro trend:

stooq.com/q/?s=eurpln&d=20080411

as to Pound trend:

stooq.com/q/?s=gbppln&d=20080411

all currencies related to Zloty

I think it is bad for our export ... so I hope we are going to see the end of this trends I doubt that it is going to happen tomorow ;)

News / US dollar still falling... Change in Poland? [37]

If you would like to become an importer of some used or new US goods, i could "sell" you some ideas.

I support this idea in 100%. You don't have to be professional importer, go home for holidays bring some goods and sell it for your friends. As I know nobody who came form US brings cash. Ask your friends what they would like to buy (there is list of US popular products) and honestly you are going to have nice income. So you will exchange US dollars on much higer ratio that it is now.

as to US dolar trend ... it is hard to say Polish Zloty is stronger and stronger to every currency (only Czechs currency is more expensive than it was for us) nobody knows when it is going to the end.

What is more when we look on direct foreign investemens in Poland, EU funds, Money form emigrants, imported goods ... it looks like zloty will be strong in close future (they all must sell foreign currency and buy Zloty) our central bank because of inlation decided to higher rates ... so our bonds are more popular ...

wow, that`s cool. they`re keeping their scottish heritage over there alive

form article I have read comes that rather not ... they brought some scots for festival (kind of fun or to see their roots) ;)

Lukasz, looks like you have a lot of information about the subject of scottish immigrants in poland in 16-17th centuries. if there`s anything you know about the scots settling in around the poznan area, particularly the ostrow wielkopolski area then i would be grateful if you could share it with me, please :)

forum.histmag.org/index.php?topic=3393.msg108143

main discussion is about Dutch imigrants in Poland, later there are some informations abour Sctotish settlement in Poland.

as to Poznan there was so many immigrants comming from different countries ... I don't know detalis. There are some infos that among Germans, Hungarians, Italians were Scots (I don't know details)

UK, Ireland / 90,000 Scottish Immigrants in Poland! [67]

There is vilage Szkocja (Scotland) in noth east Poland

pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szkocja_(województwo_podlaskie)

name comes form Scottish settlers (19th century) till today there is a lot of red haired people.

This process was made by Ludwik Michał Pac who brought Scottish, English and German imigrants.

And vilages had names coming from places of their origin.

Szkocja, Linton, New York (dziś: Pruska Wielka), Bromfield (Józefowo), Longwood (Ludwinowo) i Berwick (Korytki)

some have their old names some today have different.

UK, Ireland / Life in the UK for some Poles (sad article) [124]

Yes. Her choice is taken away from her when she is forced to have sex with someone. In all likelihood, the baby will not have a good life living with a person who looks at them as the child of a brutally violent man. Both will be miserable (although the woman will be miserable either way because he life will never be the same).

in this case abortion is legal in Poland ...

News / Polish - French relations [41]

So...you would find it fair if...say....Liechtenstein could overrule Poland even if Poland has much more people? Somehow I find it hard to believe that...:)

Of course not. I feel that result of this negotiations could be better. We were fighting alone and we achieved something other small and middle size countries were "good europeans" and achieved nothing. Lets leave it ... (read EU constitution)

So "WE" is a party or what? What do they stand for?

Firstly we want Ukraine in EU free trade zone (without membership in EU, old memebrs don't have to pay EU cash for them or open laubor market for them) . We have French and British support. On next EU summit there will be offical Polish proposal in this case. So wait for offical informations.

Who is we???

Official Poland suppoerts Ukraine. "WE" is Poland.

It's a communication problem Lukasz...your english isn't the best, I really don't know what you want to say...

European constitution is created in way that biger countries will be much stronger than they are now (in EU). Poland wanted to change it, unfortunately couldn't. Instead of that 6 countries (not 5) are mentioned in EU constitution. Especialy when it comes to seats in important EU offices/tribunals of justice/... .

News / Polish - French relations [41]

I don't understand you Lukasz...do you want to say that we promote membership for them? There is a difference between good relationship and an actual membership!Just watch Turkey....good relationship but they can scream till they get blue in the face but will never become members...

we promote them because we have the right to do so some countries support our idea some not, maybe one day we are going to achieve majority.

Not if you use the EU to bring unrest and tension and intrigues in another wise well working body! Other than that you can do as you like....ah the old polish fear of an overpowering Germany...but learn to live with that, we can't and won't make us more smaller just to be more likeable!

I think you don't understand Poland ... lets present it in this way. 85% of Polish people want closer integration. The fact is that for today Germany are the strongest memeber of EU and main power. Still Polish people want to intgrate on political level.

What? What do you want to say?

Read EU constitution ... and be quiet to referendum in Ireland.

News / Polish - French relations [41]

You prefer the US - We prefer Europe

We prefer Europe as well, 85% of Polish people want closer integration ... for this moment we are all member of NATO (US alies) and there is nothing like one EU defence policy.

You prefer Ukraine - We prefer Europe

Sarko promotes Arabs in EU we promote Ukraine ... you promote Russia ...

There are countries with polish views and countries who share Germany's views, so what..

EU isn't German tool to rule europe and we cooperate with all members of EU with common views to our ... that is all. I think it is how EU works. Sometimes we cooperate with French some times with Brits sometimes with Germans ...

EU constitution is consturucted in way where small countries will be ruled by big countries (because of representatives in some EU offices) Poland is on list of "6" and get used to it (read EU constitution).

You have still to come a long way...let's leave it at that!

Ok so lets discusse our interests (German-Polish) and possible cooperation. Lets imagine there was no 1000 years of wars and both nations wants to make EU better. What common interests do we have. We prefere Atlantic aliance (eventualy no aliance and only strong EU with strong army), you prefere Russia. We prefere low taxes, you prefere social benefits, we prefere Ukraine, you prefere Russia. We prefere free trade and you prefere protectionism ... There are countries with more similar views on EU future to Polish than Germany.

Simple

Manno Lukasz that whole discussion get's more and more surreal...for centuries our peoples mixed and the more Poland and Germany get immersed in the EU we will mix again...the borders are about to vanish...do you really think we should beat each other about THAT all the time again and again?Actuall I'm losing interest!

I think I know why you are losting interest ;)

Lets have happy end (at least for today) we are in EU and we must cooperate to make this organisation succesful ;) as to me we have more common interests with other members of EU than with Germans ...

situation with your minister was very funny, that is all !

Ok bratwurst stay with us ;) your minister haven't been begging for support. We are normal EU members and we sometimes cooperate ;)

I haven't posted this map where eastern Germans are our close realtives. (If you have it in school ... so you should study it more carefuly) I remember your post form yesterday about Polonisated Germans who had to be more Polish than Poles ... So maybe it sticks to eastern "Germans" ;) (when we look on your map ;)... it seems true )

Sarkozy wants closer EU ties with Africa (Arabs) ...

and you don't want to pay EU funds for Arabs. am I right ?

For me it is funny situation that Germans come here and beg for support.

No thanks...should have been stuff for school actually...in Germany and France it is!

so if you have this maps in schools why you come here and talk this all stories about German Silesia ... (OMG not once again discussion about that) look on map eastern Germans are Slavic people. You have it in schools.

Sure...if it makes you feel better :)

It looks funny because 3 days before visit of German minister Sikorski said something about Germans ... and both Poles and Germans know what it was about ...

I read press and I know a lot about current German - French realtions :)))

In what way would YOU of all people a help for Germany? You can't even help yourself...

It was our minister who wnet to Germany looking for help ? Or German looking for help in Poland ?

(once again thank you for your map)

I'm not so sure Poles will have much success with trying to split the core....

We don't try :) It is Sarkozy who preferes Brits !!! :)

Actually I find your "he he" abit pathetic but then Poles were never really interested in making the EU working just to get as much out of it as possible, right?

We are interested in making EU better as well. That is why your minister has such a nice visit in Poland. I find this situation funny (that is all) German comming to Poland looking for support ... we are "task oriented peope" and in some cases cooperation is possible. :)))))

it is blank because it has nothing to do with Germans ;) ... (BB not today not in French-Polish debate)

It seems that French prefer to run EU with Brits ... and Germans are a little bit worried. heheheh

news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,91211-1310643,00.html

This week we had visit of German foreign affairs minister. He has been sleeping with his wife in house of our minster Sikorski and generally we all know that Germans are looking for allies in EU ;-) It was funny situation because we all know how Sikorski used to call Germans ;) (I would say strange situation)
