Love / How to get to know a polish guy better? [102]

but i know from my own experience that better is stay calm and dont expect nothing.

Very wise words from such a young person! ;) ****listen to her, Liiii, because she speaks the truth****

that better is stay calm and dont expect nothing.

Could also be said for all things in life.....expectations lead to disappointment....when we keep our minds open to whatever the future has to offer, we end up getting what we need (not necessarily what we want, which incidentily is not a bad thing). More times than not, I'm grateful for the things I didn't get that I wanted (especially when it comes to relationships....God has definitely looked out for me) :)

Love / How to get to know a polish guy better? [102]

yesterday, I received a long e-mail from a guy I hardly know, explaining that he would like to know me better (what a coincidence:-)

Maybe you should not discount this guy.....what harm would be done by getting to know him better (you might actually end up liking the guy). Through my own experience, I've had men right before my eyes, willing to put forth an effort, but I was blinded by a passion for someone else, who was not willing to offer the same. I ended up having a major regret in my younger days, when I blew off a guy, because I liked another....the tables turned about a year later, and I actually started to see the original guy in a new light....by that time it was too late.....he had someone else and I missed out. What I'm saying is, don't become so fixated on someone who is just a "maybe" when there is someone else who could be a "likely". The fact that he wrote to you and said he wanted to get to know you better, IMO, shows great character. Something to think about. Good luck! :)

USA, Canada / Polonia in USA - Happy 4th of July! [42]

And since we are so dry here in the national park, no grilling is permitted due to extreme fire danger.

I was camping in Grand Tetons and visiting Yellowstone several years ago and it was the only time in my life that I did not see fireworks on the 4th! Still had a great time though!

News / Was Polish Medical Workers Strike Orchestrated by another country? [6]

According to the following article found in the Warsaw Voice, PM Kaczynski is blaming the media and "another capital" for orchestrating the strike in order to hurt Poland. Do the people of Poland believe this? Do others believe this? Your thoughts on the article....

On Monday, Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski said that "Devils are very easy to identify, the faces can also be seen in the media." He also said that if someone "in some other capital" wanted to create a scenario to harm Poland, he could invent something like what is happening currently, Kaczynski said of the strikes in the health care sector.

The PM stressed that the accusation is not aimed at doctors and nurses because "they are unaware...but other devils are involved." It is unclear at what country the accusations were aimed.

In this case, Kaczynski went on, doctors and nurses "are demanding a miracle. That is, they want the neglect of the last 50-60 years to be fixed within one year." Furthermore, he added, there is "far reaching support [for the protests] on the part of the media."

Doctors and nurses have been striking for more than a month over low pay in the health care sector.

Hey, T. are you going to be in Poland that entire time? You really should try to come to Sopot if so (I'll be there the 3rd to 16th). If I don't get to meet you, have a great time, be safe, and hopefully next time.....btw, all are always welcome to my place in the states.....I'm always up for roadtrips, too! :)

Thanks for the info you guys......it's ok.....I'd rather stay in a hotel so as not to inconvenience anyone....So is Victoria station in central London or near Heathrow? So much to learn and plan before I go.....I told everyone today at work I was leaving for Europe August 1st......my boss' looks at me shocked, because he thought I meant I was moving there.....lol.....they told me they would track me down and drag me back if they had to....to their relief, I told them I was only going to be away for a couple weeks.

You guys just don't even know how excited I am to be coming there and of course going to Poland to see my one and only. WOOHOO!!!!!

Travel / Wireless Internet connection in Poland [18]

As in America, there are places to pick up wireless connections.....many hotels offer free wireless, as do many coffee shops and other businesses.....I'm not sure about the plane? I know you can get wireless service through cell phone companies, that allow you to connect to the internet from anywhere, but you would probably have to sign a longterm contract.....also, I don't know how good of a connection you will get flying over the Atlantic (it may be very good....I honestly don't know.) I will be taking my laptop to Poland, but my plans for the flights is to bring a few good dvds to watch to pass the time.

UK, Ireland / Travelling to Sopot, via London....anyone want to get together? [83]

I'll be in London for a day coming over and a day coming back (flying into Heathrow and flying from Luton to Gdansk and back). I have no idea about travels in London...it doesn't look very big, but my baby says it takes a while to commute to different places. I'm thinking of staying in central London, but not sure......anybody have any suggestions? Also, anyone up for a game of pool and a drink?

Work / American Lawyer in Poland [6]

Although I have no expertise in the field of law, common sense tells me you should ask the firm that you might possibly be working with....I don't know if there's a demand for English Lawyers in Poland's smaller communities, but my guess is, since they are a part of the EU, it couldn't hurt.....as long as you can communicate in Polish (highly recommended if you plan to live in Poland), I think an English speaking practice could be quite lucrative! Good luck! :)

Life / Polish Kids - Polish speaking? Bilingual? only English? [56]

I'm bilingual and laerning Spanish :)

Good for you, Artur! Unfortunately, in America, or at least in the school district I grew up in, a foreign language is not required....fortunately I took French (had to be different...lol); unfortunately I didn't retain it (can recognize written French, but verbal....pfff). I believe the younger they start learning, the easier it is for them to retain.....it's never a bad thing to be able to communicate in multiple languages......wish I was fluent in another language....

USA, Canada / The things Polish people do in the US [46]

I knew the Polish were smart (have a few relatives with Polish heritage and their intelligence is almost embarrassing----at least they are cool about it---they don't criticize me when I make stupid remarks!) Remind me, next time, to take my cousin, Tom, with me when I buy a house!

I Love the Polish!!!

Feedback / Why does my password automaticaly enter when i type my username [5]

You probably saved your password on your computer......only someone who logged in as you on your personal computer can do that. If you use a different computer, than the password will have to be entered.

Don't worry, nobody on here can type your user name and get on as you, unless they know your password.

Quiet confidence might be ur style, but it aint mine. Theres just different types of people...im anything but quiet and it works great as well.

You are absolutely right, MND.....if it works for you, then that's fantastic!!!! Most people (especially on this forum) are a little more conservative than you, so I'm sure you expect their criticism....in fact, I think you thrive on it! Why else would you be sticking around and chatting with all of us "Old People" unless of course you really are wanting to change your ways and are hoping to learn a thing or two on here? ;)

why does this new name only have 100 posts?

100 posts in one day......plus of course the alter egos post (Wysp=17 and drum=12 or 13 before he deleted the profile with his pictures) So approximately 130 posts in one day (I think that's more than Manser had on his first day......hmmmmm) ;)

News / A thought on Poland! [140]

and LT Ranj bit.. just another way of avoiding saying that for once
he was wrong.

Very good point, P......he also evaded BW's question a couple days ago when he was asked the last time he was in Poland or Germany......it only asked for a simple answer, yet apparently he had to "go out" so he didn't have time to say, "I was there last month" or "last year" or "I spent five of the last six years in these places."

Oh well, I don't give much creedence anymore to what Lef has to say (actually, I never really did....oh well).
