First offense: 5 years in prison and kissing your DL for life.

This kind don't have cars. They get a bus or a taxi home.

Every northern town (and probably plenty that aren't northern) have a few pubs that are for town drinkers. Busier in the daytime than the evening.

Something else I hate?

Apart from Celine Dion, Mantovani and roll neck sweaters, my current pet hate is Chinese underwear.

Are we back to things we hate?

Here's things Bobko hates, British-edition:

1) I hate people that do not obey the laws of a queue
2) I hate people that cannot do small talk. Do they not understand that my asking about the weather is me trying to connect with my fellow man

3) People that stare at others on the subway
4) People that do not understand that every walkway has a right side (standing) and left side (moving)
5) People that do not mind their dog's leashes in the way of people on bikes, and skateboards
6) People that suddenly stop and wonder in the middle of a pedestrian walkway
7) Women at airports, that never seem to know where their gate is, or which direction they are supposed to be walking
8) People that use the train car as their personal picnic area

6) People that suddenly stop and wonder in the middle of a pedestrian walkway

All three of these are pure Poland. As Polish as Piotr Rubik's music and bigos (I hate both of those too).

People sailing straight out of shop doorways onto the pavement not looking left or right.

People walking in front of you on the pavement and stopping suddenly.

People who open a shop, restaurant or pub door on a cold day, walk into or out of it and leave the door wide open.

People who stand in front of the door of a tram or bus waiting to get on but in fact making it awkward for people to get off.

The same people who try to force their way onto a tram or bus before the exiting passengers have all left.

8) People that use the train car as their personal picnic area

As a heavy drinker, this one particularly irritates me. The last thing I want to smell during my hangover, is your greasy halal food under my nose. Also, the incense candles (which JAMAICANS burn for some reason, you would think it would be Indians), and straight up weed smoke (this is fairly recent).

I hear that in Singapore you get caned for chewing gum outdoors, maybe that's where I should move.

Most joyous experience I ever had in a train was in Tokyo. Eveyone smells good. Is quiet. Does not eat. Is infinitely polite despite the crush.

chewing gum outdoors

Or possession. In late 70s & early 80s there were barbers and tailors before the immigration. If one had hair longer then ones earlobe one had to get it cut free or was not allowed and same with bell bottom pants those days with width no more then 30 inches.

You kind of people have a special name I am forgetting and not a good one.I bet you kind also hate people taking time to pay the cashier in front of you also bothers you esp if they start counting change.I somewhere read that these kind of people are mentally sick and need a shrink and should never own firearms.

Hence, posts about t-shirts and princes. I'm very ashamed - I want to tell you all.

I was wondering why you're hating so much on some random Arab prince lol

That reminds me - I hate alcoholism and drunks. And I absolutely deplore the stench of digested alcohol (especially beer). It's vomit-inducing. 🤢

I actually once apologised to her.

Really? I honestly don't recall - it must've been a long time ago. I wasn't talking about apologising though (which clearly isn't easy for you either and not worth much if you're doing that only to seem "polite"), but about being able to admitt to being wrong. And I'm not talking about doing that to someone you like or you're on good terms atm, because that's easy.

Btw, I never regret apologising to anyone, because if I apologised it means that it was the right thing to do. I also don't regret not telling you anything about myself in the private messages we exchanged in the past - I can see now that you didn't deserve it :)

Not known for either taste or much else except bad poetry and being photogenic.

...and for his love of horses (he even won some equestrian competitions) and his many sport-related hobbies like scuba diving, skydiving, etc. Actually, if it wasn't for all those hobbies I wouldn't even know about his existence :))

Another thing I hate - when people are putting down others in order to feel better about themselves or to make a point.

Btw, jon357, it was not only the snobbery, but also the ignorance of your comment about your friend putting a lot of sugar into his tea that surprised me. I imagined that someone as well travelled as you would know that Arabs like their tea and coffee sweet and it may be often too sweet for European/Western tastes. So, I'm guessing that in case of your friend it's a cultural thing.

And a fun fact for the end of my "rant" :) - the lovely Polish word for tea cup - "filiżanka" - comes from Turkish, Turks got it from Arabs, and Arabic language got it from Persian :) ☕

Most people don't. Have you read much of his poetry? He writes it in English though I personally don't rate it highly.

Neither 'snobbery' nor 'ignorance' since I've drunk more tea in the Arab world than you ever will, among rich and poor alike, in shacks, in tents in the desert and in mansions. And don't put sugar in, much to the surprise of people around me. As you'd know (if you actually knew what you were trying to argue about) it sometimes comes with the sugar before boiling. But then again, you're just trying to argue.

Just because some cultures are heavy consumers of refined sugar doesn't mean that everyone has to like putting sugar in their tea or coffee.

Remember, the thread is about things people hate. Not about you telling people what you think they should or should not hate.

At least you've not tried o_0 yet, though there was a 'lol'...

And yes, the etymology of the Polish word 'filiżanka' is well enough known and mentioned several times on this forum.

Sugar kills because cancer loves sugar. I hate sugar.

I remember that stupid Polish ad "Cukier krzepi" (Sugar is refreshing)

I hate sugar

Me too, which is why I said in a hate thread that I hate it.

Though apparently we need permission from a particular poster to hate things...

I remember (in a part of Africa where the diet is very high in sugar and carbs and female obesity is a huge problem) going into a chemists for something. They had so much insulin that it wasn't just kept in the stores, the crates of it were stacked high in the shop itself due to lack of room.

Sugar is a killer.

@Novichok, I know. I only drink tea and coffee for social occasions these days though :)

nor 'ignorance' since I've drunk more tea in the Arab world than you ever will

Then you were being a demagogic jerk, OK :))

Just because some cultures are heavy consumers of refined sugar doesn't mean that everyone has to like putting sugar in their tea or coffee.

But your comment was not only about liking or not liking sugar in your tea, but mainly about putting three sugars in tea being an "un-royal" thing to do for your Arab friend :) So, it looks like you were judging his "royalty" or whatever from your European point of view. This is WHY I objected and not to you not liking sugar in your tea (which I couldn't care less about).

Remember, the thread is about things people hate. Not about you telling people what you think they should or should not hate.

I wouldn't comment if your posts were restricted to saying what you don't like/hate, but you and Bobko went further than this and that's why I felt like disagreeing with your authoritative statements.

And as for clothes :) - I hate the feel of rough, unpleasant fabrics on naked skin. My mother would make me wear thick tights during winter under my pants and they were so itchy. I hated them :))

This is WHY I objected and not to you not liking sugar in your tea

Yet you felt the need to object and refer to whether or not my friend's sweet tooth is part of his culture (the answer is yes and no).

Anyway, Pauline. Let's bury any arguments for the sake of a quality thread.

I hate the feel of rough, unpleasant fabrics on naked skin

Me too. I don't like man-made fibres either very much and try to avoid them. Cotton is good against the skin.

Also, I hate (really really hate) Chinese underwear

Yes, because we were discussing a member of Arab royalty wearing a T-shirt and a baseball cap and you and Bobko started dismissing the royalty of Arab princes. That's what your comment about your friend was mainly about and that's why objected to this, because I thought making such comments was a lame and snobbish/ignorant thing to do.

Let's bury any arguments for the sake of a quality thread.

Then stop lying about me and what I write - I won't have to debunk your false statements then.
No, you don't need to ask my permission to hold opinions or mention lived experience, but be prepared that I'll comment if you write something lame or stupid, etc. :)

Cotton is good against the skin.

When I buy T-shirts for myself or others I always pick 100% cotton :))

Arab royalty wearing a T-shirt and a baseball cap

Indeed, though as the son of an Emir in a country that has several Emirs and not much oil, he's hardly MBS. A nice guy though. I'll not say any more about our friendship since it would stretch credibility.

Then stop lying about me

Behave. Discussions are more interesting without Ena Sharples-like conflicts or harking back to things said previously. We may enjoy (or not enjoy but get sucked into anyway) arguments, however this thread has the potential to contain far more fun (and occasional banter) than conflict. That's best saved for the politics pages and it's refreshing to enjoy a thread without Jim's weird stuff.

It's the weekend here, and the sun is shining.

T-shirts for myself or others I always pick 100% cotton

Me too, however I've only got four t shirts. Two are white v neck ones for occasionally wearing under shirts. One is a fairly fancy dark blue v neck one with green trim which I suspect the laundry lost/stole a week ago. The fourth one is one I bought nearly 40 years ago in Manchester and it's evidently well made since it looks as good now as then. I don't wear it much though nowadays.

I don't generally like t shirts at all though. On some people they look good, on most people they don't.

Behave.

Right back at you :))

I don't generally like t shirts at all though.

I do like them. One of the reasons is that they're usually (although not always, it depends) nice for the skin and you don't feel so hot in them in the summer. Another reason - I love the fact that you can put all kinds of designs and art on them :) That makes them interesting, sometimes funny and even creative :) You can have some fun with T-shirts thanks to that :))

Some are not 100% and the label lies.

I always touch before buying, so I can tell :)

nice for the skin

That's true. I tend to be a formal shirt wearer myself. Not what Americans call button down Oxfords, but ones in comfortable fabrics. Suits (not necessarily formal - the most recent one is duck-egg blue). It's sort of a hallmark for me. I don't much like designs and art on clothes though

I always touch before buying

Me too. Very wise.

And I still loathe Chinese knickers.

Some would hate this suit but I do like it. It's a bit lighter than the pic shows.

I always say you can't beat a nice pinafore. Would you believe I had an identical one to this when I was about four years old :) But I had the edge on Sindy because I wore mine with a red and white striped jumper to give the wow factor

Another thing I hate is being told to move to Country A from the US when I post that Country A is better at something than the US.

Say that the Moscow subway is cleaner than the one in NY and some moron will ask you why you are in the US instead of Russia.
