I thought about making a similar thread to "Poland in photo riddles" in the Off Topic section quite some time ago already... But maybe a more general one and not just photos?

Riddle 1: 😁😎

What does this have to do with a certain military Special Forces unit (not Polish)?:

Is it a bat?

I didn't know they could swim?

Yes, it's a bat! A swimming bat :))) So what kind of unit could it be? 🌊🦇

Hint: this unit is considered to be among the best SF units in the world and one of the most secretive in that country's military.

Another hint:

This short video hints at one element in the unit's insignia and the environment in which this unit is designed to operate :)

Spetsnaz GRU from russia?☹

SPETZNAZ is an acronym and r*SSian.

The only Polish special forces group that I've heard of has a name with a clear meaning, unconnected with bats. Maybe they have a nickname too?

Spetsnaz GRU from russia?☹

Nope :) Spetsnaz GRU has a whole bat in it's insignia, unlike this unit (that's a hint too :))

The only Polish special forces group

This riddle isn't about a Polish SF unit. This is not a thread about Poland, but a general one, about the whole world :))), so it can by a unit from any country in the world.

Maybe they have a nickname too?

Yes, they do, apparently - "Bats" :) 🦇

They're called "Bats" because of their insignia, obviously :)

Nobody knows which unit it is? I don't think there are that many SF units with a bat in it's insignia... 🤔

OK, more hints then - the bat in the video is swimming, because this unit is part of the country's Navy (so it's like the US Navy Seals). And that means this country has a coastline :)

Also, this unit is a veteran unit, it took part in almost all of it's country's wars and various missions. This unit is almost as old as the state it defends. The country itself is both very old and very young at the same time. And today would be a very fitting day to guess this riddle ;)

And in the meantime - another riddle!

Riddle 2: Is this horse fake or real? 🐎📷🎨🖌️❓

This unit is almost as old as the state it defends. The country itself is both very old and very young at the same time.

Israel comes to mind.
After this hint is it easy to guess.
Shayetet 13 (Hebrew: שייטת 13, lit. Flotilla 13) is a unit of the Israeli Navy and one of the primary sayeret (reconnaissance) units of the Israel Defense Forces.

Is this horse fake or real?

It is a real horse belonging to Putin - its colour suits the splendour of golden interiors of Putin`s palaces.

Shayetet 13

Yes!! And this is it's insignia (not the whole bat is visible - only it's wings):

insignia

Shayetet 13 took part, among others, in Operation Moses - the covert evacuation of Ethiopian Jews from Sudan during a civil war. A film was made about this operation titled "The Red Sea Diving Resort" starring Chris Evans (I wrote about this film in the movie thread in Off Topic).

It is a real horse belonging to Putin

I don't know who owns it ;D, but it is a real horse indeed ;) And it's not a freak of nature, but a very rare and one of the oldest existing horse breeds in the world. It comes from Turkmenistan. The unique metallic sheen of the coat of the breed led to their nickname "Golden Horses". They are also fast, intelligent and are well adapted to severe climatic conditions.

This breed is called Akhal-Teke:

To be honest I'm surprised they aren't more well known and popular - like the Arabs, for example. They're such unique and beautiful horses! 😳

It comes from Turkmenistan.

Close to Russia, hence Putin ownership connection.

@pawian, yes, this cute little critter is a baby and makes quite incredible sounds :) ❤️

What species is it?

Hint: it isn't native to Europe.

baby

Super cute.

Is it a type of porcupine rather than a hedgehog?
pawian 224 | 24,513

Yes, porcupine or African hedgehog.
OP Paulina 16 | 4,406

Nope, it isn't porcupine or African hedgehog - look at the eyes. And this animal is more related to humans than porcupine and African hedgehog :)
