@Bobko
Arrogance is the word that comes to mind. Very evident here on PF from many in the EU and UK. The UK is much closer to the US than the EU is when it comes to military, intelligence, and common goals. The UK does a good job at nurturing that relationship.

The EU on the other hand thinks it deserves special treatment based on what exactly? Unfair trade? Becuase its the "old world"? EU arrogance is Parisian level when it comes to the US. While I understand the dislike of loud Americans in Europe. Europe cant afford problems with US markets.

The EU on the other hand thinks it deserves special treatment based on what exactly?

Based on the huge size of their market - the largest there is in the world.

To control the world's largest market, and to still sign the type of deal they signed - one needs to be an especial kind of incompetent.

They could have twisted the arms of American digital behemoths, that earn a huge portion of their profits in Europe (Netflix, Amazon, Microsoft, etc). They could have insisted on preferences for European banks trying to crack the US market (Santander, Credit Agricole, Societe Generale, Deutsche Bank). But most importantly - they should have stood firm on steel and aluminum - because these provide tens of thousands of jobs in Europe - much more than in the UK. The UK's steel industry is microscopic in comparison to the European one.

They did none of these things.

These unelected women (one was a German defense minister, and the other a Prime Minister of ESTONIA) - are maybe not the best people to negotiate on behalf of Europe. Their heart is in the right place, and I'm sure they are good people - but they are woefully out of their depth in this context.

Er....hate to break it you but we can do tariffs too

I love to educate you, Golden Moron, about tariffs...

When Country A (the US) runs a deficit with Country B (the EU), country A is a loser and Country B is a winner. The relationship like this is unsustainable for A and can go on forever for B.

When tariifs A and B reach certain level, the trade between A and B stops.

Then, Golden Idiot, A is no longer running a deficit, and B no longer has a surplus. This makes trade-killing tariffs good for A and bad for B.

That is why every parasite out there hates Trump and his tariffs and not because his tariffs are bad for the US. So take your fake concern and shove it where the sun don't shine...

As a reniminder, in this example, A is the US, and the EU is B.

Got it? Or is that too complicated?

@Novichok

This deficit is now all but guaranteed to quickly vanish, or at the very least be reduced substantially - through EU bureaucrats selling Europe out.

and I'm sure they are good people

What???

These broads, along with pussyfied male Euro azzholes, are doing all they can to kill as many Russians as possible ...

This deficit is now all but guaranteed to quickly vanish,

Whose deficit? The US'?

The EU hasn't signed a deal Bobko - they haven't even answered Golden Cow's letter. He is merely talking about tariffs that he intends to impose, but will eventually chicken out from when the bond market reacts negatively.

Same with Japan, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Turkey and even North Nigeria. None of them have answered these dumb letters.

The deficit will not decrease by more than 5 percent.

No factories will be moved to the UK, that would be plain nuts. A few might move to the US but I think more likely they will tell Golden Cow they are moving and then do nothing. That's because nobody respects him

No idea why simple economics is so difficult for you Novi - you assume that A and B are one person, not a country made up of lots of different factories and farms, some of whom will do well by tariffs and some of whom will be crushed. There is no point trying to explain that to you.

MAGA and math(s) don't get on well together LOL

The EU hasn't signed a deal Bobko

The FT is a serious newspaper. They interviewed officials on both sides. It is to be signed imminently - perhaps within two days.

It's a done deal.

Official spokesmen have already began to report as much.

Whose deficit? The US'?

Yes the US. Did you see my last 4 posts? There's big news today.

None of them have answered these dumb letters.

Finally Golden Moron said something smart.

You are right. Those letters show weakness. He should impose tariffs to our advantage and do absolutely nothing.

Hey, Golden Moron, do you want the US to succeed?

That's because nobody respects him

More like he keeps everyone like you guessing to his method of madness which frustrates the little green beans right out of you.
That alone shows that even you respect him by bashing him every day for it.
Now smile and be nice.

But the FT does not say that - it says that the EU is going to sign some kind of fake ass preliminary document that keeps tariffs at 10 percent while they continue negotiations. Same 10 percent that Britain has

They will continue them probably into next year.

Nowhere does it mention signing in 2 days. What it does say is that in 2 days the US will send some bogus letter to the EU. That letter will sit on someone's desk unopened until September 1st.

Do I want the US to succeed ? Yes. But like most humans it is always funny seeing a vain bully who doesn't like it when people ignore him.

And nobody is guessing Golden Cow's method. it is well known - issue tariff threats and then back down when the market falls, blame it on Biden and then repeat the whole stupid cycle a month later.

Nowhere does it mention signing in 2 days.

Do you have a current subscription?

It's pretty unambiguous:

Talks between the EU and US are continuing, but both sides expect an agreement this week. Trump said a "letter" might be agreed within days.

Without a deal, tariffs on the EU would rise to either 20 per cent or 50 per cent on August 1, after Trump postponed a July 9 deadline. One diplomat argued that reducing it to 10 was a success.

The US was "probably two days off" from sending the EU a letter outlining its planned tariffs, Trump said on Tuesday. Merz on Wednesday said talks were "not easy" given US demands but he remained "cautiously optimistic" of a breakthrough this week, or by the end of the month at the latest.

Golden Cow's method. it is well known - issue tariff threats and then back down when the market falls,

How you doing in the Market this year so far ?
cms neuf  1 | 2059
9 Jul 2025   #254
Yes I do. And it says exactly what mentioned. That in two days the US is going to send a letter, nobody in the EU has agreed to even read that letter. The only agreement is going to be to postpone the deadline to never never.

And of course, the German Chancellor is way too polite to go on recorder saying that golden cow is an idiot.

Proving that the nice guy comes in last.

The only agreement is going to be to postpone the deadline to never never.

I know we read the exact same article, but it feels like we read totally different ones.

I definitely got a sense of finality from everything I had read. That it was just a formality before this was inked.

Why else, would German and other officials offer opinions like "Surprising that the Brits got a better deal than we did" - when nothing had been decided?

Easy way to find out Bobko - wait until Friday night.

If it hasn't happened by then it will be a few more weeks. France is on a long weekend starting Friday and they are not going to interrupt that unless it's something really important like the cycling.

@Bobko
They did none of these things because the tariffs going the other way on wine, cars, and other premium items would have broken the industries. The US doesnt sell a whole lot in Europe and doesnt need, I mean really need anything from Europe. If cars and wine got 50% tariffs, it would keep American buyers who should be buying those things in the first place from being able to afford them. My old neighbor in the US never made 100K a year in his life, but he financed a new E class for six years and played the role of someone with money while eating hotdogs for dinner.

The US trade deficit with the EU is the only thing that matters. Reducing that any way possible is what Trump was elected to do. You have lived in the US long enough to know the average American doesnt GAF about Europe, will never go to Europe, and couldnt find France on a map.

issue tariff threats and then back down when the market falls,

The Market is having another Bull Run today if that is any indicator of what is going to happen come Friday.
Never worry, always pray.

They need Ozempic.

If this is your response to PAK's totally brilliant post, you just confirmed that Golden Moron fits you like a glove.

The difference between you and him is that what he wrote is pure gold. You are Golden only if followed by Moron.

The Market is having another Bull Run today

Dow YTD: 5%

I remember how PF Trump haters were crowing that the end is near...

Former DOGE chief, Elon Musk's a one-man crime wave!

"Trump threatens 50% tariffs on Brazil if it doesn't stop the Bolsonaro 'witch hunt' trial."

This is absurd. What's next - imposing 10% extra tariffs on Poland just because they elected a bold prime minister? His actions make America look like a laughingstock.

Now his Chatbot's spewing anti-Semitic tripe and pro-Hitler rants.

Can't stand that First Amendment?

How about quoting what he said first...then conclusions..."spewing, trips, and rants"...

In the meantime, I found this:

"We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts," the chatbot's account posted later Tuesday. "Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X."

This, somehow, went unnoticed by you...

His actions make America look like a laughingstock.

I don't care about that...We have 11 aircraft carrier groups to handle that laughter...

My problem is that to make such demands stick, we have to spend some political capital. In this case, we will get nothing in return.

This is what America should focus on: "The U.S. national debt is around 124% of its GDP, while Russia's is around 19.9%."

It's not sustainable and it's worrying that Trump doesn't care about US debt. Other nations can see that too and maybe that's why they ignore all these threats.
Novichok  7 | 9752
10 Jul 2025   #267
A spot on post, Tlum...

I suspect that 124% is too low, considering that the US government lies all the time - from Tonkin, WMDs, unemployment and inflation rates, to "the border is secure"...

They include everything in the GDP - prisons, the DoD waste, migrant expenses, foreign aid...

It's not sustainable

My favorite word...unsustainable...

On my island, anybody who would vote for a deficit would be executed after a brief trial...Since I am a nice guy, it would be by a firing squad.

You can have 1000 aircraft carriers but that's not how to win wars in the 21st century. It didn't help in Iraq of Afghanistan

In six months Golden Cow has made the US much weaker - respect and soft power has evaporated and will take decades to recover

And the future is AI.

I've a feeling that in the next war we'll see more than just the drones and robotic dogs that have been shown to the public. <ilitary tech is always a bit further ahead than what is put in the public domain.

On my island, anybody who would vote for a deficit would be executed after a brief trial

On his island, nobody would be left alive due to all the executions and genocide. Who would want to go there?

Better to have an LGBTQI+ island; at least we've a never-ending supply of people willing to settle there and be fabulous.
