Best ways to survive a nuclear blast and later radioactive fallout

Hi boys and girls! Given current events in the near abroad, I thought it would be practic to discuss what simple tips and tricks people may have to share re: dealing with the aftermath of a nuclear explosion. GefreiterKania says it may happen - PolAmKrakow says she's a stupid cow. Who to believe? Who will be ultimately right?

Personally - I think it is always best to be prepared!

dealing with the aftermath of a nuclear explosion.

Step 1. Estimate the distance from you to ground zero.
Step 2. If less than one mile, run to it.

Ukrainians are famous for repurposing cooking pots into helmets. Perhaps a cooking pot made of the correct alloys could help protect the brain from gamma radiation?

@Novichok

Excellent advice, but I'm afraid - difficult to remember in the moment.

Avoid big cities.

Or anywhere near a strategic facility. If you've got a cellar, use it, otherwise a ground floor. Basically as many layers between you and the radiation as possible.

Keep plenty of bottled water and enough food. If you've a battery operated radio or a wind up one, you can make a simple faraday cage by keeping it wrapped in a tea towel covered with tin foil.

Stay down there for as long as possible. Keep a change of clothes and dispose of any outer layers you had on when the bombs fell. Fallout, btw, starts about an hour after the blast so you do have some time (assuming you're far enough away from ground zero)

This is aimed at Americans so there are obvious differences between there and Poland due to population density, geography and level of risk, however it is worth reading.

This one is aimed at the U.K. and discussed strategy and warn8ng systems.

Nobody should panic, however it's worth being prepared for difficult scenarios.

prepared for difficult scenarios.

Like lack of uncontaminated food?

I'd guess that a lot of crops will be contaminated as will livestock. Nevertheless, radiation decreases quickly and tinned or dried food should be edible.

We'd all be contaminated to one degree or other, however the experiences of Chernobyl and Fukushima show that food stocks do remain edible depending on the amount of radiation they receive.

Don't need one where I live in this sparsely occupied area.
Nobody would waste a nuke on Northern Michigan.
What we build here is defensive bunkers for the wave of fleeing Chicago glowing people that will want to rob us Preppers of our food and shelters.

The westerlies will blow it just the waves of Lake Michigan toward your shack.

Sure, Jimmy, Sure. We believe you! Is it knee deep in brass casings too? LOL

I live 300 miles NORTH of Chitcago, not West stupid.
The West winds blow to the East and sht flows down hill to the South.
I probably won't even hear the BOOM when Chitcago gets turned into glass.

brass casings

That is city boy week end warrior lingo. lol
Just say "brass" and we will know what you are trying to say. (The Reb rolls his eyes)
They must get a charge out of you when you go to the range to play Rambo.

The Fed X truck pulls up and struggles to bring a crate of ammo to my front door.

GefreiterKania says it may happen -

No, darling, it is primarily RuSSists who say so. So stop manipulating. :)

Personally - I think it is always best to be prepared!

Exactly! Don`t waste your time here and start an awareness campaign for RuSSist citizens. They need it thanks to their mad leaders.

it is primarily RuSSists who say so

And they lie compulsively.

What is very true however is that any attempt from Putler to go nuclear would result in the major population centres in russia being turned to glass.

The best way tu survive a nuclear blast is to emigrate to New Zeland.

New Zeland.

Or the Scottish Highlands or the Upper Pennines in England.

I'd avoid Moscow right now.

I'd avoid Moscow right now.

If RuSSists launch nukes, they will be tactical ones against military and critical targets. So Moscow won`t be the primary target for NATO retaliation. Kaliningrad will as the main military base.. And other critical infrastructure in RuSSia. That is my opinion.

Of course, if RuSSists strike our cities, then Moscow and St Petersburg will be next.

Kaliningrad will as the main military base..

My feeling is that they'd try to avoid Kaliningrad due to its proximity to Poland and elsewhere.

If the yanks do it, it'll probably be a military base near Kabarovsk, if we do it, it'll be a base in the North but trying to avoid ecological damage, and if the French do it, it could be anywhere

course, if RuSSists strike our cities, then Moscow and St Petersburg will be next.

Experts say there are three steps of escalation over two days. The third step? No russia left apart from savage peasants in Siberia.

try to avoid Kaliningrad

Yes, you are right. So Kaliningrad has to be taken out with conventional weaponry.

the French do it, it could be anywhere

I always knew they are the most disorganised.

savage peasants in Siberia.

At last they will be free from RuSSist subjugation.
Unfortunately, the Chinese will adopt them soon. Hard to say which subjugation is better - RuSS or Chinese.
