Then you would lose that bet, there are certain requirements to meet to even be on the list.

Threatening neighbours with war is not one of them

I saw a post on Twitter today, claiming that NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte said that China will ask Russia to invade NATO, ahead of its invasion of Taiwan.

I thought - "fake news".

Googled it, and son of a b*tch:

"There's an increasing realization, and let's not be naive about this: If Xi Jinping would attack Taiwan, he would first make sure that he makes a call to his very junior partner in all of this, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, residing in Moscow, and telling him, 'Hey, I'm going to do this, and I need you to keep them busy in Europe by attacking NATO territory,'" Rutte said.

Source: kyivindependent.com/china-may-enlist-russia-against-nato-if-taiwan-conflict-erupts-rutte-says-06-2025/

Is it just me - or do politicians go through some metamorphoses when they go from being head of state to head of NATO?

Seemingly level headed Stoltenberg became an impossible war hawk and Cassandra after becoming General Secretary.

Now, formerly rather normal Rutte, is doing weird things like calling Trump "Daddy" and saying "China will order Russia to invade NATO".

-//-

How does that make any sense?

To secure their invasion of a little island in Southeast Asia (albeit a very important little island), China will ask Russia to declare war... on the world? And then... Russia will oblige?

I don't know, but it seems to me like China then wants Russia to do the majority of the heavy lifting - while presenting it as some sideshow.

Who should we attack in NATO first? Estonia or Latvia - or immediately the UK? Maybe make an amphibious landing in Italy?

lol.

Na ja, Obama got one for absolutely nothing....so....and terrorist Arafat got one too...

Awarding someone who helped liberate these hostages is a better reason than many!

I'm sorry, I am just very upset about this idiotic Mark Rutte statement about China "ordering" Russia to invade NATO. So I will write some more.

Russia cannot "order" Lukashenko to support us in our war in Ukraine.

Iran cannot "order" Hizbollah to attack Israel.

India cannot "order" Afghanistan to attack Pakistan.

Even America - the most powerful country in the world - cannot prevent Israel from bombing one of its closest allies - Qatar.

-//-

But somehow, China can "order" the largest country in the world, to plunge itself into a world war - "just because".

Your Western politicians are idiots.

The reason China and Russia get along nicely, is because we practice mutual respect and non-interference. We don't read each other lectures, and don't seek each other's conversion.

Only through your warped zero sum view of the world, could someone happen to make a statement like Mark Rutte made.

Your Western politicians are idiots.

It takes a village of idiots to produce idiot politicians. See Chicago and Illinois. The kneegrow and the fatso didn't elect themselves.

I am just being a wiseass...I know what you mean...

....its this tension, before an expected attack....its sometimes worse than the attack itself!

before an expected attack

You guys take yourself way too seriously!

No one has explained in adequate terms, why the hell Russia should attack NATO.

The idea that we will do it, to cover China's invasion of Taiwan - is the stupidest explanation I have read to date.

is the stupidest explanation I have read to date.

....but it makes sense!

If Russia attacks Europe...that would draw all the attention (at least from the Europeans)....who cares that much about tiny Taiwan!

And China is a country which doesn't like to be in the center getting caught being naughty...it fits!
Bobko  28 | 2836

that would draw all the attention (at least from the Europeans)

What would Europe do... anyway?

That will be a Chinese war with the Americans, Japanese, Australians, and Koreans.

Maybe the UK will bring some ships, and France too.

But the rest of Europe? They have no role to play in defending Taiwan.

China is a country which doesn't like to be in the center getting caught being naughty...it fits!

Yes, and Russia is a retarded country that will cause World War 3, just because we love being in the center of attention so very much.

-//-

The best way we can help China is by supplying them energy, during the inevitable embargo they will face.

These past few weeks, all the business journals are writing that China is hoarding gold and oil - a sure sign of war preparations.

Further - it was important for us, that while we were beefing with the West, China maintained cordial relations with them and acted as our window unto the world.

When China fights its war, it will also be important for them to have Russia as a conduit to the outside world.
Bratwurst Boy  9 | 12537

That will be a Chinese war with the Americans,

Will it?

Europe will scream loudly for the Americans, in a case of a russian attack at the same time...can, will Washington go to war for both? Taiwan is not even in NATO.....

Interesting scenario, maybe not that stupid as it sounds....

just because we love being in the center of attention so very much.

....at least Putin doesn't care. He gives a *** about Russia's image in the West....now China is cultural lotsa different, image is everything! Not to mention that it wants to avoid the trade sanctions and the whole bruhaha!

Taiwan is not even in NATO.....

America's whole economy is built on Taiwan.

Both the IMF and the Federal Reserve, have argued this year that the AI boom is the only thing preventing the US from sliding into a recession.

Taiwan manufactures 95%+ of the chips necessary to fill all the data centers being built.

America will drop Europe, like an unwanted baby, if it has to choose between Europe and Taiwan.

at least Putin doesn't care. He gives a *** about Russia's image in the West

Putin is an autist. He doesn't care about anything, except what he cares about.

Who should we attack in NATO first? Estonia

It is not impossible to send green people to Estonia. I think it will fail spectacularly, but still.

years "Nobel" is Trumps.

I would give it to him, but ask him to pay for it. Trump's way used against him, fitting.

It is not impossible to send green people to Estonia. I think it will fail spectacularly, but still.

For what reason?

It's not impossible to send men to Mars, but we don't do it - at least not now.

Many things are not impossible, but it doesn't mean that all of them are worth doing.

Attacking NATO for the Baltics is just stupid. Nobody will ever convince me that this 5 million ballast of pensioners is worth even one dead Russian soldier.

A bunch of welfare sucking parasites around our neck they will be.

For what reason?

Russki Mir expanded, the gathering of lost lands, Putin feeling like Peter the Great again, a victory at last (even if only temporary).

Stranger things happened in history than a wavering, confused leader starting another war to stay in power.

the gathering of lost lands

I would much rather we gather them like the Germans gather them.

Through capital.

They are geniuses, with their rebirth after the war, and the Union they created together with the French and English.

We are dummies - doing things the old "blood and steel" way.

Germany conquered all of Europe, without firing a shot. Now everybody comes to them on their knees, begging for mercy - the Greeks, the Portuguese, the Irish, the Italians - and maybe soon the French.

Money did for Germany what millions of dead could not do.

Poland under Tusk is pretty much a vassal too; a bit unruly sometimes but a vassal nonetheless.

Money

Money is one thing. Law and order is another. Also, I wouldn't underestimate the fact that they denounced their imperial past and renounced military violence as a legitimate means of conducting foreign policy.

Exactly.

The lack of demographic pressure (or rather a demographic decline) makes another Drang nach Osten very unlikely.

Well, people like you are in no postion to be able to dictate such a policy.

Historically - Russian rulers ignore voices like ours at their own peril.

Sooner or later, everyone understands it.

Russia doesn't have the soft power of America, or the export machine of Germany - so it wants everything to happen on an accelerated schedule through "force of our arms".

Shortcuts and laziness - the oldest demons of Russia.

No one wants to work hard and long. No - only quick results through "heroic" effort.

After watching the Sorokin interview, I feel tempted to read Oblomov. Worth it?
