Do you think women have the place they deserve in modern Polish society ?

Most women nowadays do work outside the home

A large majority of Polish women have worked outside the home since 1944.... Poland never had a suburban housewife culture...

And the social status of cooking is very different from the US which inherited(?) the British view of housework (including cooking) as menial and of low status, a servant culture (like the British aristocracy) inevitably leads to any kind of physical work being of low status...

In Poland, thanks to decades of communist food scarcity cooking and serving food (deciding who eats what) was of much greater status, not overt but

This is one reason for larger discrepancies in life expectancy for men and women in Poland, for decades an elderly woman was a benefit and great resource for a household while retired men had no particular role to play.

According to Eurostat in 2023 there were 7.7 million female scientists and engineers in the EU, 381 200 more than in 2022:

ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/products-eurostat-news/w/edn-20250211-1

Poland looking good!: 🤗🇵🇱❤️👍

"At level 1 of the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS 1), female scientists and engineers were in the majority in 12 EU regions:

🇪🇦 4 regions of Spain: Canarias (59.2%), Noroeste (54.2%), Centro (53.5%) and Noreste (52.2%);

🇵🇹 2 regions of Portugal: Região Autónoma dos Açores (57.5%) and Madeira (55.8%);

🇵🇱 Makroregion Wschodni (56.5%) and Makroregion Centralny* (52.6%) in Poland, Severna i yugoiztochna in Bulgaria (54.4%), Norra Sverige in Sweden (51.5%), as well as Denmark (50.8%), and Corse in France (50.5%)."

*including my region?! :O 😁👍

So, the best and the worst regions in the EU in this regard are:

At NUTS 1 regional level, the highest shares of women in science and technology in the EU were in:

🇪🇸Canarias (59.2%)
🇵🇹Região Autónoma dos Açores (57.5%)
🇵🇱Makroregion Wschodni (56.5%)

Lowest in:

🇭🇺Közép-Magyarország (30.1%)
🇮🇹Sud in Italy (30.6%)
🇩🇪Baden-Württemberg (30.8%)

To be honest, judging by this map most of Western Europe isn't looking great o_O Turkey looks better lol What on Earth... 🤨 I wonder how RuSSia and the US would compare... 🤔

Turkey looks better lol What on Earth... 🤨 I

This has been replicated before... in places with more.... delicate economic situations women find STEM types of education and jobs more appealing.

In more settled and prosperous places.... women tend to follow their personal interests and preferences more.

And... for better or worse. Overall.... (with many individual exceptions) women are less interested in STEM topics, not least because they often involve lots of time alone and/or as occupations they don't leave much room for personal lives and overall.... (with many individual exceptions) women value the idea of work/life balance more than men do.

You have the same overall range of interests among men and women but the averages skew differently.

I'm not sure why this is framed as being a 'problem'.

women value the idea of work ...

...with people, not things.

Those jobs pay less. Hence the BS how women are paid 77 cents on a dollar by men.

Hmm, I don't know - this doesn't add up when you look at Sweden and Norway - both dark blue almost entirely... 🤔

I'm not sure why this is framed as being a 'problem'.

Probably because men like to claim that women are too stupid to do those jobs and to get such education.

Probably because men like to claim that women are too stupid to do those jobs.

Nobody claims this.

It's the women who claim jobs that pay less. Oil rigs, coalmines, and brick laying are available to both genders.

Nobody claims this.

Many do. They outright claim this or insinuate, like you do.

It's the women who claim jobs that pay less.

And why do you think they end up claiming those jobs?

And why do you think they end up claiming those jobs?

Because they prefer little kids over big machines.

@Novichok, oh, trust me, many if not most women wouldn't want to have to deal with little kids for 8 hours at their jobs lol So try better.

his doesn't add up when you look at Sweden and Norway - both dark blue almost entirely... 🤔

Need to know more about what qualifies as science an engineering... so I found this:

"Women working as scientists and engineers were primarily employed in the service sector"

In other words.... working with people.

And the 'definition' is broad enough to be meaningless: "occupations that could be involved in the systematic generation, advancement, diffusion, and application of scientific and technological knowledge, independently of the level of studies. This category also includes other occupations like technicians or associated professionals"

Care to translate that?

most women wouldn't want to have to deal with little kids for 8 hours at their jobs

Very true. And most women probably want to have kids and don't want to spend large portions of the day away from them.

Some women are very career driven and prefer a fulfilling career to family. They don't make up the majority.

I'm all for women going into whatever field they want. But I'm not obsessing that not enough are going into any particular field is a fools' errand.

"Women working as scientists and engineers were primarily employed in the service sector"

It's in that link I posted:

"Across all economic activities present in the statistical classification of economic activities in the EU (NACE rev. 2), women represented 41.0% of the scientists and engineers workforce. This share was higher in services related activities at 45.6%. In manufacturing, women represented 22.4% of scientists and engineers, while in other activities that share was 23.9%. "

But I'm not obsessing that not enough are going into any particular field

Me neither, but I don't like it when women are getting discouraged from going into those fields, when they are met with hostile environment once they get there, when they're treated worse than men there, when people claim they're too stupid or not good enough to go into those fields. Such stereotypical way of thinking (about "women's and men's interests and what they prefer") has consequences. I had a look at comments on Eurostat Facebook profile under the post about this data and these are comments of a woman from Finland (which is famous for having good education):

women value the idea of work/life balance more than men do.

Hmm, what if it looked differently if women had more interesting jobs? It's not that hard to value work/life balance when you're a cleaning lady or working as a cashier at Biedronka... and if you don't have the pressure on you of being the sole breadwinner for the family... 🤔

Women have other stereotypical societal pressures on them that may influence their choices:

And most women probably want to have kids and don't want to spend large portions of the day away from them.

Don't want to or have no other choice?

There's definitely the "mother's guilt" at play here, but why fathers don't have that feeling of guilt when they're away from their kids for large portions of the day or at least often not to the same extent as women?

I've read not long ago an interview with a Polish psychologist. She said she was asked by an owner of a company to help his female CEO, because she was suffering from "job burnout". But when the psychologist talked to that CEO it turned that her work isn't the cause of the burnout - she loved her job. The problem was that despite being a CEO of a serious company and earning a lot of money she had a second job - at home. She was taking care of the kids and doing all the housework, because she wanted to show that she can be a good mother and wife despite working professionally on such a high position. And, of course, that was too much. From what I remember her husband is a taxi driver.

Yes. In a democracy, you deserve what you vote for. Especially when you are a 75% majority.

Down with pathetic white males who wrongly believe they still have the right to control women due to millenia long traditions. Those times are gone, darlings!!!

BTW, white male azholes, if you want to have your race sustained, you need to change your chauvinist attitude to women. The sooner, the better.

If not, darlings, other males will take your place. Ha!!!!

Instead of being a busybody and trying to force people to do what you want. Why don't you worry about yourslef? No kids, no man who want you, you have plenty of time on your hands to spoil it for other women because your are jealous .

Ha!!!!

You are posting nonsense and empty slogans but women on this forum are buying your story that you are women friendly. With such discerning eye, it is a hardly surprise a lot of women go for scum as their love interest.

No man can control a woman.

That's why women have lying and emotional terrorism down to perfection.

Add to that half a dozen ways of "crying"...and you have a winner...Men know only one: silent tears.

We never learned that idiotic boo hoo shlt...

@Novichok, your post #49 is a load of prejudiced bollocks.

Maybe they are.

They clearly aren't too stupid, because if they were they wouldn't be able to get such education and do such jobs in various countries - women are working in those fields not only in "progressive" West, but also in Muslim Turkey, for example.

Btw, in my class at high school the best student at math was a girl (and my best friend :)).

Instead of being a busybody and trying to force people to do what you want.

How am I being a "busybody and trying to force people to do what I want" by sharing positive stats about Poland? Are you stupid? (that's a rhetorical question, btw lol) 🤦

No kids, no man who want you, you have plenty of time on your hands to spoil it for other women because your are jealous .

You don't know anything about me, but it looks like I know one thing (among others) about you - you're too stupid to work in those fields, so you're jealous of those women who can :))) That's pathetic.

And why are you attacking me personally for having a normal discussion with people? It seems it's because you don't have anything intelligent or factual to say on the subject matter.

You claim all kinds of things about me despite not knowing anything about me, while I do know stuff about your private life that don't show you in good light and yet I'm not yapping about them publicly on the forum in order to discredit you.

Your behaviour is lame and immature, Ironside.
Grow up.

@Novichok, your post #49 is a load of prejudiced bollocks.

Oh, yeah? Have you ever seen a man going boo hoo?

How many ways do women dry "cry" while delivering endless and incoherent speeches?

Do you know why women never shut up when pulled over by cops?

They never shut up to keep the show going while hoping that the cops will get tired of listening to that shlt and simply give up the way their husbands do and their parents used to ...

Eventually, the ******es find out that cops don't buy that shlt and always win. This leads to Phase 2...the cuffs...

"What have I done?????"

"You can't do that!!!!"

"You are hurting me!!!"

"Do you know who my father is???"

"I will sue you, you fvcking piece of shlt!!!" A direct quote ...

The most amazing part: In many cases where booze was not involved, the cops were ready to let the stupid bit*ch go but she decided that a little show was just what she needed...

That's how stupid women are.
