Hi

I am in Germany and looking to make a trip into Poland to buy 100 cartons (20,000 cigarettes) as it's so much cheaper there. Was planning to drive into Wroclaw or Posnen for a weekend break for the purchase. I have read online that one carton (10 packs of 20) costs around 35 euros? Is this correct? I have heard cigarettes are about 15 euros a carton in Belarus or Ukraine. I dont want to get involved in anything illegal as 100 cartons is going to be 1 year personal supply for myself, wife and 2 aunts/uncles. is the price the same all over Poland or is it possible to by cheaper Marlboros/L&Bs at border towns with Ukraine/Belarus. If I can save another 500 euros I might be tempted to drive a bit further. thanks

Neither Ukraine nor Belarus is part of Schengen or the EU so you will for sure be checked at the border and 100 cartons sounds like more than you would be allowed to bring into Poland.

Maybe for someone who knows what they're doing (that is knows how to find the people who transport them illegally, they won't be selling them for half the local price out in the open.....

Most things are cheaper in Eastern Poland so you don't need to mess around with the border, just go to Lublin or Sandomierz or somewhere like that and they'll be cheaper than in Wroclaw or Poznan (both of which are on the more expensive side within Poland).

No idea as I don't smoke, I'll let the hacking cough brigade answer that one...

The prices don't vary much from city to city. Lambert and Butler are quite rare.

L&Bs are not generally smoked in Poland; they are a foreign brand that isn't marketed here. You may find them at a larger wholesaler however they are not generally a retail product here nor would a typical wholesaler stock them. Makro sometimes has them, but not always. Marlboro lights are 15.50zl a packet for box packets and 15zl a packet for soft packets. You may find a tiny discount if you buy by the carton however not always.

I have the impression that buying by the carton is really uncommon in Poland (compared to many other countries).

That's right. There used to be a couple of places that specialised in it but they're now gone. People do buy cartons, especially at Makro and Selgros but they are rare.

I hear the border towns on the Ukraine side have Ukrainian folks selling for around $1.80 a pack. Ukrainians living no further than 30km from the Polish border have special permits to enter Poland, visa free. Many do so each day, and sell cigarettes. The problem is they can only legally bring in 2 packs at a time, and most obey the law. A daily profit of 2/3 dollars seems enough for them. The problem then of course is finding ENOUGH of these '2 pack vendors' to fill your order. However, I have a strong feeling that many of them DO break the law and that finding many a seller with many cartons would not be too difficult. Just get there and ask around.

Believe it or not, there exist limits on transporting legal drugs (tobacco and alcohol) within the EU.

Not sure how this works in practice, but with a 100 cartons, I would imagine if you ever get stopped and checked by the Customs Police you will no doubt be questioned and will have to convince them that it's all for personal use (good luck with a 100 cartons in your boot), otherwise probably a (hefty?!) fine will be imposed.

I have been pulled over in the middle of the night by German Zoll and they asked me how much I have. I think the limit is up to 4 cartons. Be careful.

Can i buy Lambert and Butler Cigarettes in Szczecin?

Hello guys....

Firstly appologies I couldn't remember my logs in for my account as its been a while since I posted. Im travelling to Szczecin in a few days for the first time and I was wondering if anyone knows if they sell Lambert and Butler cigarettes there? I usually manage to pick some up quite easily these days when I visit Krakow or Warsaw but with this being slightly less touristy (I believe) I thought id ask the question to some who may have more knowledge in this area. if anyone can share I would really appreciate.

Thanks

You don't really see them here. L&M or Rothmans are the equivalent.
