How is the 60th birthday celebrated in Poland. It's the end of youth for sure, but is it the beginning of old age? Are there any special customs?

That's when name days are useful so people don't know your age

If you've turned 60, happy birthday!

60 is the new 30...

60 is the new 30...

My dad is in his early 60s, and seems quite depressed about this fact. I tell him the above, and he just waives it away.

I think this is foolish

Who expected ChatGPT? Who expected SpaceX to land dozens of rockets perfectly on their "feet", onto a small platform floating in the sea? Who thought there would arrive a drug that can truly cure Hepatitis C?

Organs will be 3D printed, cancers will be carefully excised by nanobots, memories will be saved on neural chips... and so on and so forth. This is why actuarial models at modern insurers project some current workers to live to 120 years old.

My only hope is that medical science advances fast enough that we have Novichok with us still in 2063.

Not really, some of the things I did when I was 30, I certainly won't repeat when I'm 60.

I'm not going to get depressed over this. I also do not want to set my life anew, as I have already written, no new children because late-born children lose their parents when they need them most. I will also no longer drive on highways 200/kmh as I did as a 30-year-old, only 130 on the cruise control as befits a serious person. The most important change is that a man after 60 does not have to prove many things to himself. Yes, it gives a lot of psychological comfort. No, I don't want to be 30 again, but I don't want to be 80 either.

We buy a cake, stick 6 candles, light them up, and sing Sto Lat.

End of the thread. Good job, Mod.

@Novichok
I thought for 60 you had to invite at least 60 guests and drink for three days. To be clear, I had a glass of champagne with my wife.

No reason why you should. You could easily have another twenty to twenty-five years ahead of you. Stay physically and mentally active and take each day as it comes. Many happy returns! :))

I'm trying, unfortunately my two female cousins died shortly after 50, our close friend a Polish priest in Germany shortly after 60. Moreover, in the news so many young people are now dying ... scary to think. Good thing Corona is over. Back to the topic, we celebrated in a small group. The kids will come next week. I'm not going to do anything at work.....Hmm, this is where I actually have a question, would you celebrate 60 at work?

Well, your genes will be a big determining factor but there's nothing you can do about that. Just walk as much as you can and keep moving even if you have to do things a bit slower than you used to or you can't do as much in one go, eat reasonably well - other than that, enjoy life. As the Dali Lama says, when he's worried he asks himself 'is there anything I can do about this problem?'. If yes, then there's no need to worry. If no, then there's no point in worrying.

My family is quite long lived as a rule but heart trouble runs on both sides and I'm probably a ticking bomb but I still enjoy my chocolate. I'm not going to lead a life of misery just to squeeze out another couple of years of living a life of misery.

but I still enjoy my chocolate.

If it's black chocolate then you're fine, it's supposed to prolong life.

Unlike all other birthdays, I decided to go around 60 without any stress. Although it has already passed, today our son arrived and we opened a bottle of Bollinger Rose. Wanted to try James Bond champagne.

Why should 60 be stressful?
I stopped celebrating my birthdays after my 30ieth.

All the rest seemed pointless to me.

@Miloslaw
60 per se is not stressful, but throwing big parties is stressful. I'm slowly starting to understand people getting married without a wedding or even better living without a wedding. Although the latter solution is unfavorable due to children and inheritance matters.👠🎩🔇🔕

Agreed,my "Big Party" days ended with my thirtieth surprise party, I enjoyed it after the initial shock,but never again......

I tell a lie, we had another surprise party for our 30th wedding anniversary,organised by my daughter, and I rather enjoyed that too.

party for our 30th wedding

Yes, it was also our last big party. Since then, we celebrate everything more "intimately" according to this motto: less is more and better.

Since we left Poland 3 days after our wedding, I always make my wife cry by telling her that we are still on our honeymoon... for 34 years.

This year is a leap year. Nevertheless, those born on February 29 will be able to celebrate their 60th birthday... if they live to it.

Fortunately, I don `t celebrate my birthdays and forbade my family to. Complete waste of time and resources.

Complete waste of time and resources.

If not for your living family, do it for your mother who birthed you. A celebration of her effort, so that you could sh!t here daily on the forum, and bend the minds of young innocent Poles through education.
