I am from South Korea. I had erasmus student experience in Poland. When I was erasmus student in Poland, I got good impression Poland's life. I decided to find a job here.
Luckly, I got a job in samsung. I am supposed to work in Poland from December. So, I wanna know Polish's cognition of Asian.
I haven't experienced racism yet. Even though I went around a lot. However, I can't speak Polish so I don't know their honest mind.
@UFO: hang around! I promise you that you'll get your dose of racism, xenophobia, antisemitism, antismuslim, homophobia, bashing against X, Y or Z country... for at least a few years ;). Although there are a few decent people in here, believe me, the density of extremists is most suprising ;). The good thing is that it does not reflect real life.... :)
Koreans, Chinese, Japanese are liked and welcome in PL. All racism you might encounter will probably be a stupid joke. Nobody here is really a racist its a myth.
Most Polish are not racist, the great majority is not, we are one of the friendliest and most tolerant nations there are on the planet as far as treatment of other nationalities is concerned. There are not many nations like our one when it comes to tolerance and hospitality towards a stranger. However, Asians are not the friendliest or most helpful of people. They are more loyal to each other than us Polish people, they are helpful to one another but not to other nationalities nor are they tolerant or hospitable to others, at least not the way Polish people are. I have met many Asians throughout my life and this is the reoccurring issue - lack of consideration for other nations.
I must admit when I was in China I did feel like a second class citizen, but maybe its because I was out in the sticks and not in a large city, but in singapore and malaysia everyone was really nice.
It's coming from a guy who has travelled almost all of the main countries in Europe (including Poland) and sharing his experience. Just by looking at the way you talk one can judge what kind of person you are
@Ali000 Oh please just be honest and say "I'm a Polonophob by nature, I can't help myself when I spew this nonsense every time I get the chance" instead of hiding behind the nick that's not really an indicator of your true identity.
@ShortHairThug No that is not true at all. I don't have anything against Poland or Poles. The country is beautiful. Just talking about my experience and the racism I had to deal with
That one sentence you wrote is not about your experience more like a blank accusation, a sure sign of racism on yor part. Stating you have travaled around Europe in your second post does not help to back up your previous statement. It only reinforced my opinion about you, that the very thing you accused others to be are yourself.
Merged: Do Poland only dislike Middle East or do they also dislike far East Asians?
I know there is a BIG trend going on in Poland right now with everyone protesting against the influx of refugees from Middle East.
I don't interfere with Polish politics cause it's their own country but I'm a student living here since almost 6 years already. I'm from faaaar East Asian and sadly, I don't look white at all (obviously).
I have realized that in bigger cities, I feel more "accepted" but as soon as I go to smaller polish cities, people start to be rude to me (especially young men). I feel a bit worried everytime I travel by train and visiting smaller towns.
Let me ask you an honest question?
I hope Polish people don't categorize Middle East with the same category like with Far East Asian? Just because of this trend against ME, does that mean East Asians will also get affected? What's the polish views of those 2 groups of people?
It's wierd that it's so taboo in Europe not diverse the immigrants group like in USA:
Cause there we have:
Asian Americans Black Americans Latino Americans Middle East Americans White Americans Native Americans
I think it's nothing wrong with this system at all. He in Europe, you are just either an immigrant or a native. There are too much political correctness involved.
So my final question is still: Do Polish people have negative thoughts about East Asians also due to recent events in Europe or are we spared?
@RubasznyRumcajs, I'm from VN but I don't look like a typical one.
I have black hair, fairly high nose - not flat, double eye lids, eyes not too small but def I don't look European enough. My skin is very pale since I grew up in Europe and didn't get so much sun tan - almost same color as a normal polish person so people wouldn't notice anything if I have a hood on my head or something.
So all in all, you can tell that I'm asian but not brown skin at all. You can still tell Im not Polish - unless the Mongol genes (from the Genghis Khan invasion of Poland era) still exist among the Poles.
What do you think about Asia? I see lots of Poles just love Asia but they mostly only know about Japan and Korea, the so called weeaboos and koreaboos that only like K-pop, J-pop etc. Are there people that really like, say Tayland, Malaysia, Taiwan, etc.
