Travel / My (short) Poland experiences - bad luck? [142]

I never found this to be true. I found people to be warm, friendly and helpful.

They say what you see is often a reflection of self.

Travel / My visit to Poland - Likes & Dislikes. [137]

What a load of BS.

I am on my second time of living in Poland. Is it new? No! Is it gritty, Yes! To me that is a big part of the charm. I am not from a fake city like LA. I am from the rust-belt city of Detroit and maybe that's why I feel right at home.

I don't expect people to speak English or kiss my rear end. I have found the people here to bend over backwards to help, much different then my Germany trips.

There is beauty everywhere, sometimes you just haveto look.

Life / Driving test, English speaking driving school in Warsaw? [95]

Where can I get a copy of the test prep in English?

I was told that since I already have a drivers license all I have to do is take the test.

Where does one take the test and what is the cost?

USA, Canada / Not everyone that lives or comes from America is RICH! [300]

6 & VD is a bad area, not the worst however.

I used to work right by there.

Detroit is getting better slowly. It's going to take at least another 2-3 years.

There is no where in Poland that is as bad as inner city Detroit.

However, there is no place as nice as where I live that I have seen.

USA, Canada / Things that Polish-American should know about Poland. [168]

Ultra-nationalist "patriots", by definition, are very close-minded. I found that most of them do not get along with their own family members

This is true no matter what country they are from.

Yet more lies from you: American citizens need visas to visit the entire Schengen zone.

Harry this is not true. No official visa is required for a US person visiting Schengen for up to 90 days.

Most countries can turn others away for what ever reason.

I have a red stamp of death in my passport. I served my time out of Schengen and have been able to return with no problem. I do have the proper visa for work this time. :-)

Love / Do Polish women talk too much? [74]

I just mean that it don't matter where you are from. There are people of every type no matter where you go.

I did sales in the US before and have dealt with just about every type of person you can imagine. White, black, Asian, Indian, off the boat European, etc............. and found everyone is the same.

It just depends on the individual person.

Love / Do Polish women talk too much? [74]

Women regard it as privilege to listen to their complaints.

I think you need to write a book.

Life / Hollywood Lyrics, why a Polish girl? ('A Polish girl in America') [37]

Nah,just a stereotype of a dumb yank.....sad,never actually met a yank in real life who wasnt charming ,inteligent and open minded, why are so many of the ones on line complete knobs?

That's because the ones that get out know how to live and relate to people. The one's on the net 24-7 forgot all social skills and graces.

USA, Canada / Shipping boxes / stuff from Poland to USA [11]

Merged: Shipping from Poland to the USA (not worried about the speed)

I am returning to the US next Saturday and I need to ship 2 or 3 boxes home.

Does anyone know the best way to do this. It's mostly books and cloths. The less I have to carry and take through customs the better.

I know of Polish Post, UPS, and DHL.

I am not really worried about shipping speed.

News / For all Americans worried about Schengen in Poland, dont worry about it. [142]

in fact, make it virtually impossible for them to obtain residency.

It is damn near impossible...

You have to live in Poland and file paperwork every year. Even if you have lived in the same location they still want the same information all over again.

If you leave for too long of time you have to start your time all over again.

Every year for 6 years until you can file for permanent residency.

First you get approved by the consulate and then you have to get approved all over again once you are in country.

Travel / Wroclaw and Zielona Gora hotels, restaurants, car rental - need some logistical assistance [18]

I lived in both cities.

When I was in transition I stayed in hostels in Wroclaw. I don't drink so I really can't recommend any pubs. However, when in Wroclaw go to the rynek info spot and get a Wroclaw in your pocket.

Zielona Gora I know much better. Try Haust, that is a brewpub or the 4 Roses if you like music.

There is a vegetarian restaurant that is ok also.

Why are you going to Zielona Gora?
