I'm very sad to hear about this tragedy. Whatever the cause, I'm sure it was an accident. IMHO it's wrong to speculate further about why it happened, with so many people mourning and no real evidence as yet. I'm sorry for the loved ones of all those affected.

I think it's true that there are cultural differences. Recently I dated a Polish girl, and on our third date, over lunch, she became very embarrassed and said she wanted to discuss something. She explained that due to her religion (she's a Catholic) she was a virgin and didn't want sex before marriage, and she liked me a lot but wanted me to understand this and if it put me off she would understand. She also explained that she realized that men 'have their needs' and that she was very good at 'other things' that men enjoy. I explained to her that I could never take any pleasure from her without giving it to her as it would be selfish and that I respected her views and it didn't put me off wanting to date her. I don't think an English girl would have been so formal as her or so willing to pleasure a man without getting anything back, almost as the price of having a relationship. Sadly we split up for other reasons, I think she decided I wasn't the man for her, but I still came out of it liking her and thinking that Polish women are the best.
