History / WW2 Polish settlement in the North study [2]

Hello,
I am looking for any memoirs related to the Polish settlement in the north of England (Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool,Newcastle, York, Bradford etc). I am particularly interested in the inner (Polish) community memories, personal documents, diaries etc. It is for an academic history research project on memory and identity of the displaced communities in the UK. Amongst many other goals, it aims to analyse political perspectives of the wartime Polish migrants and their attitudes towards other migrant communities.

Your helps is much appreciated!

History / Is there a list of those in the Polish Army during WWII? [192]

Hi,
I am trying to do a pilot research on lives of the Polish soldiers demobed in the UK. I am particularly in those who had settled in Yorkshire and Lancashire after the war was over. It would be fantastic if I could collect some post-war memoirs or testimonies (also from their family members) and develop it into an academic research. Please get in touch if you can help.

Food / Polish Sour Milk / Maślanka [44]

Sour milk is not that bad rich in vitamins and proteins.
I presume that was the main reason why Slavic tribes started to make it centuries ago.
It just makes you full quickly, provides energy from proteins and calcium along with vitamin C (sic!) produced through the process of bacterial fermentation.
You need them when it's so cold out there :)
Same with sour kraut, gherkins and pickles.
Enjoy :)
