Sanction me, silence me, lock me away... Accuse me of illegality - and yet you cannot live without me. Is this because only a Pole can understand the meaning of Russian love?

@Vincent

Alright, alright - see ya tomorrow. Delete this guy. Keep my main.

I am curious, as a suspended Russian Bot... Why is it ok, to discuss theological questions in Best Posters thread, but I get #cancelled for asking Poles about how they managed to get colonized by retards? It is the mystery of the Polish brain.

To bring things back to topic - my updated list of top 5 written from bed of my barracks in GULAG:

1) Still Crow
2) Novichok - he is a genius
3) Gefreiter - blessed are the peacemakers
4) Cojest - stoic farmer man, earns grudging respect
5) Pawian - stupid, irritating baboon, somehow mystically charming

News / Polish Lithuanian Diplomatic War? At last. [533]

@pawian

Ok, maybe with all the business about Syria and Ukraine perhaps there is less appetite for Russians around the world (Orban, Bolsonaro, and Trump fans might disagree). However, as far as what country provided more cultural contributions to the world, or of which country it is less embarassing to be a citizen of - I would still guess people would answer Russia, and that is if they even knew anything about Poland beyond the fact that it exists somewhere in Europe.

My point in this is not to be insulting towards Poles and Poland. It just seems to me, when reading the early posts from 2010, that SeanBM and some other people were trying to explain to Poles that the Polish-Lithuanian dynamic is nearly a mirror version of the Russian-Polish dynamic. Lithuania does not enjoy being squeezed between Russia and Poland just as much as Poland does not enjoy being between Russia and Germany. Chauvinist and imperialistic attitudes towards Lithuanians as descendants of stupid peasants, mirrors the same attitude Russians have towards Poles - which is typically an incomprehension of why Poles keep moaning.

That is, look at yourself first, before finding fault with another.

It's just the same story of a bigger country feeling disrespected by little country.

Life / Where do the wealthy class live in Warsaw? [32]

I agree however it was Cargo's question that still has not been answer in monetary terms.
Like 1 million, 5 million, 10 million plus ?

Just for you - I did some research. According to 2019 data, there were approximately 31,000 people living in Poland that earned more than 1 million that year. This was defined by the person's tax filings, and the amounts concerned are in zloty. TBH, it seems wrong to me that there are only 31,000 people in Poland earning more than $250k a year, since the evidence on the streets seems to indicate otherwise, as well as my own anecdotal experience - but numbers are numbers. For total net worth, we have international consultancy Capgemini to thank, and it reports that there are more than 150,000 dollar millionaires living in the country.

At the top end, looking at Poland's annual list of 100 richest people - it looks like you needed to be worth at least $90M to be featured in that list in 2019, which is $9M more than the year before.

For context, the number of dollar millionaires in Spain (rough population equivalent) is 1.2 million people, is 250k in Russia, and 22 million in the USA. The entry price for the annual Forbes 100 list is $150 million in Spain, $1B in Russia, and $6.5B in the USA.

Overall, I think one has to say Poland is doing just about how it should be doing given its market and population size, and the all-important fact that it has been integrated into the world economy for just thirty years.

Life / Energy - Poland [71]

Sorry, just had to create a new log-in after forgetting my phone at work, and then the email I used years ago to create old Bobko....

To be honest, I wasn't going off anything concrete in saying that Poland is not well suited for solar. In terms of wind - I know that certain "distance regulations" have made it so that it's not likely many new wind turbines will be built in Poland (at least until the regulations are scrapped). These are regulations that basically state that wind turbines must be placed at a distance that is 9-10x their height from the nearest buildings/infrastructure/etc. In practice, this has meant that 99% of Poland's territory is ineligible for these developments. I know there is strong pressure from business and certain politicians to reverse this policy, but don't know what progress has been made.

So back to solar - my assumption about Poland's less than optimal suitability for it was simply based on the fact that the country is located more or less in the north of Europe with all that that entails. Frequent cloud coverage, short days in winter, etc. The difference in day length throughout the year means enormous amounts of redundant capacity in both generation and storage will be required if you want to be 100%-wind and solar. To me, this means that this will never happen.

As for coal, the miners are a strong voting block.

Yes, one would expect this when they account for more than half of the country's total energy needs, and 3/4 of all electricity generation inside the country. What's a real pity is that they are not needed. The coal they mine is uneconomical, and it's continued extraction is only made possible by deep govt subsidies. Would be better for Poland's environment if this coal was simply imported from the US, Russia, or SA where folks are mining it at scale and profitably.
