@amiga500
You don't help poor people by giving them a way to not work. You help them by creating jobs or creating an environment that allows for job creation. PiS creates taxes, and rising ZUS costs to fund these programs. I have no problem with 500+ for kids. I have a problem with young families pumping out babies every year so they don't have to work and can live a meager life in the country. Have you seen the twenty something families with 4 or 5 children already? I have a problem with 500+ for cows. I have a problem with state funded companies who in turn pass profits back to cronies.

PiS has created more red tape that inhibits business growth. They create an environment that discourages investment. The regulations for foreigners to invest, or open companies to create employment opportunity for Poles are staggering. The costs associated with successfully getting through the process are simply cost prohibitive for most. To think that money is going to come from Poles is counter intuitive because they aren't earning enough to create their own opportunity.

You can not continue to rob Peter to pay Paul, which is what PiS has set the system up to do. Same as the USA did, and look at how bad the USA is now financially. It will one day have to pay its bills to China who owns most of the debt, or it will have to go bankrupt.

As for the LGBT, immigration policy and those things. I support some of it, but I am not prepared to sacrifice financial wellbeing of my neighbors in order to support those things. Those people can always go somewhere else, but they want the controversy just as much as PiS wants to get rid of them. It's childish on both sides.

How some are so quick to make assumptions. Funny how you know nothing about my political views, or how I donate my own money to those less fortunate than myself.

Ideological baggage? You mean like the baggage of actually knowing how to develop profitable business where employees enjoy coming to work? My heritage and ideological baggage comes from Polish immigrants who had nothing when they arrived, who always sent money back to Poland to assist those who didn't leave.

You don't live here. You likely have never lived here. You don't pay taxes here or build anything constructive for anyone who does live here. Yet, you want to have an opinion and speak your mind about things that will never effect you. You assume to know things because you read about them or see them on the news, but you don't live them or watch others living with them. When you actually have something at stake in the game let us all know, until then you're just another paid mouthpiece of PiS.

This PolYank moved his company from USA to Poland two years ago, creating jobs, paying taxes and paying ZUS. Not laying one person off during the virus, not skipping one ZUS payment. I have invested in two other company's in the last few months, keeping Poles who would have otherwise lost their jobs employed. This one actually pays taxes here amiga500, and you don't. My employee's, their families, and a whole lot of other people get pretty offended when our money is spent on senseless projects.

The "primary function of becoming a mega cargo hub" won't happen. We know it wont happen because the demand is not there. If it were, studies and reports for expansion of existing airports would have already been filed as a justification for these projects.

Berlin should have hired a "multinational" corporation to manage the project? Really? What about the argument of creating jobs for Germans? Which is the same argument you used about creating jobs for Poles. I am sure we all believe that PiS supporters wont be dipping their hands in those construction funds. Maybe we can buy some hammers at ten times the retail price like we did for masks that had fraudulent safety labels? Yes. Lets keep the well checked and well spent money flowing to all PiS supporters, family members and friends.

LMAO and I am supposed to take a TVP, paid PiS mouthpiece report? A quote from two years ago when he did not have to consider the national interests. Please, this game playing is the same BS the press did in the USA to Trump. Same is is doing to Biden. It's coward reporting and biased politics. This is not an example of the free press. This isnt even a reporting of the facts piece. It is an opinion piece stitched together by the writer who is obviously a PiS shill

15 years of airport building in Berlin! Amazing success story there isnt it? LOL Its still not ready to open. Yes. A great example of German engineering. Hmmmm I wonder how much air traffic will increase anywhere in the next few years? Do some research on that and get back to me. Tell me then how great an airport with no one flying into it will be.

Coal production in Silesia isn't based on a supply and demand model. Production would have remained steady throughout. These are company's that produce and stockpile coal in anticipation of demand as much as they produce coal for current demand. This is exactly why the miners were kept working. It is exactly why after only a few days shut down they went back to work. It is spring and there is next to zero coal demand other than for electricity, which is constant demand. This has everything to do with keeping workers quiet and happy, nothing to do with a business model.

How about the 3 billion per year given to TVP? Lets not forget that. How much was given to cancer patients? Who cares about the Polish people in PiS? PO before may be corrupt. PiS is just if not more corrupt. The difference is PiS is leading the country to financial ruin now and quite possibly sanctions or removal from the EU, and Poland can not do without the EU money or trade.

Confirmed. Not a problem. What if its Duda vs Holownia? Are you taking Duda against all opposition? Or do I need to put 50 on him too? Or is it 100 on the opposition in general against Duda? Lets firm up the details before I spend 50 USD on dinner tonight. lol

Turns out this infection issue in mines is not a Polish issue but a global one. Thousands of infections in Canada concerning the mines. This after Canadian Government determined them to be "essential" and not subject to shut downs. Looks a lot like things in Silesia. I am of the opinion that in the second round this is a dead heat at the moment, but that a fresh faced very well spoken, highly qualified Trzaskowski will pull out a victory. The question is, who has the plan to move Poland forward out of the pandemic. Anyone else tracking commercial real estate, and business sales? I have been for months, and the picture gets darker by the day throughout the entire country.

I believed Clinton would beat Trump too. I dont think for one second the polls are accurate and PiS has really over played its hand with the public. No one wants tto go back to a dictatorship. Everyone likes a good economy and low taxes. Nobody like cronyism and that is the core of PiS. Still someone has yet to tell me what PiS has done in the last five years that is great for the country, not their agenda, but for the country.

You think 500 plus is a GDP contribution? Do you actually understand that 500 plus is a liability and not an asset? A liability that is paid for by tax payers. A liability that even the wealthy take advantage of.

Cheating the government out of tax? Using the government built highways? Don't you mean paying taxes that fund 500 plus? Don't you mean paying tolls on roads as you use them? Don't you mean the EU funded highways? Get a grip on how you characterize people.

@jon357
Also keeping those who dont need 500 plus for their children in new Converse tennis shoes monthly.

@amiga500
Only Poland did absolutely nothing for the citizens in this crisis. Nothing. Small business got nothing. That's why there are protests. I live here, I see it. I don't read about it or watch it on TV. Poland is not Australia or Canada who took great care of its citizens. Business operations have closed, to never come back.

People I know are selling the things they own for roughly 20% of their value because Poland was tied to consumerism, and the government did nothing to protect the consumer. Produce is going sky high in costs. Meat prices are rising. Inflation combined with unemployment brings what?

This is no small barrow some money from international banks problem. This is not a problem you can tax your way out of when people don't have money to spend and they aren't earning money to be taxed. This is a problem of ignoring the absolute truths that are right in front of people. PiS economic policy is the same democratic tax and spend policy that has undermined the United States. They can not tax enough to cover the spending, and now, look at the USA. A country divided in so many ways it is in a democratic crisis like it hasn't faced since the civil war.

But hey, Duda is easier to spell Trzaskowski, he does have that going for him. :-)

LMAO I live in Poland now thanks. Clearly you cant tell the difference between sarcasm and real compliments. I never complemented the canal, its a waste of time and money.

Yanks and abject poverty? So young people having 4 children and not working at all and simply living off 500 plus is good? Proper healthcare? Poland? Been to a hospital lately? Try to get something done in Poland without private medical insurance lately? Yes, I didn't think so.

I am a free thinker. I didn't support Trump in the beginning, but I support how he is forcing the economy to re-open. Better to let some people die of the virus, than to let everyone starve to death from unemployment. The US is burning and rightfully so. Some places should burn. I have no sympathy for people who don't address the obvious issues in society. The people doing the burning are largely just animals black or white who are looking for a reason to really show who they are.

The United States is a democracy in trouble. In serious trouble. The Democracy of Poland is also in trouble. Personal agenda's in both countries place everything at risk. The LGBTQ, and the other alphabet soup "causes" need to not be politicized. That everyone wants them to be an issue is what creates the problem.

I support common sense. Regardless of party letters or name. Common sense says that Poland under PiS has become less of a democracy and more of a dictatorship. Common sense says PiS has zero financial acumen. Common sense says PiS has not provided a single answer as to how they plan to save the country from a Depression like the one when the Soviets left. Thats whats happening, whats the PiS plan? Whats the vision? More judges being fired? Maybe more days in the week where people cant go shopping? That has proven to be an absolutely brilliant economic impactor.

amiga500 clearly a PiS troll, and others are clearly Russian trolls.

While Duda and PiS may be good for your country they have crushed the economy in Poland, and have put it in debt needlessly in order to buy votes. There is no escaping the financial devastation already beginning. Shouldn't the Government of Poland be more concerned about its citizens than its agenda or the benefits it offers other countries?

After some time on PF now, I really find it funny when trolls pop up who have no relation to the country simply to promote PiS or Russian propaganda depending on the news cycle.

@amiga500
There is zero security interest in this canal. It serves no purpose other than to fund more social welfare construction works employment. The residents don't want it, and the money could have been better spent on other projects or people in Poland.

The shear volume of money spent by PiS on social welfare programs and buying votes is shocking. From the billions given to TVP to 500 plus for every cow on a farm, the list goes on and on. The Crisis Shield money that never made it to small business? I wonder where that went. The story about how a woman sold masks to the government for a huge profit after she bought them publicly in Warsaw shows exactly how financially inept this administration is.

Maybe another raise in ZUS payments should be the PiS platform? Robbing Peter to pay Paul. When all this debt comes due, how will it be paid for? Someone needs to begin answering that question.

The idea of state stores was wildly successful in the past wasn't it? (sarcasm intended) This is just another attempt to "buy" votes of rural voters. This also tells me they feel it all slipping away and are grasping at straws.

@delphiandomine
While I agree the recent polls posted seem like BS, this is looking more and more like the Trump/Clinton election. Clinton was for sure going to win until she didn't because people were fed up with the status quo. PiS = status quo

You mean antidemocratic like PiS trying to jam through a sham election with mail in ballots during a pandemic? Or like PiS trying to deny Polish citizens the ability to vote from abroad during a pandemic? Or antidemocratic like PiS refusing to declare a state of emergency that would have automatically postponed the election by constitutional rule? Those kind of antidemocratic things?

@delphiandomine
Those polls do not accurately reflect Malopolskie in my opinion. The only real PiS support is in the small communities and having just come back from Nowy Sach I can say I saw a whole lot of signs for Holownia, and in a conversation with an ardent PiS family in the past, they are completely unhappy with how JK has played games with the pandemic and the election. Here in Krakow Duda doesnt stand a chance, opposition signs, posters, and advertising is going up all over. Not sure who these people are polling, but it isn't the people who are actively campaigning against PiS. I think some people are counting Catholics to vote PiS no matter what they do, and I think they are mistaken this time. Even conservative Catholics are tired of the "power grab" as one friends father said to me.

Clearly a question that answering would help decide the fate of the Candidate. Maybe they will ask if he has ever eaten meat on Friday during Lent next? Indeed, TVP clearly worthy of three billion per year funding from PiS. Intelligent, rational reporting focused on the issues that really have an impact on the daily lives of its citizenry. Sounds like FOX and MSNBC two ideology based trash can reporting agencies.

Sorry Maf, I was thinking Krynica zdroj in the south. They have a huge project on hold because the new city president stopped construction when he didnt agree with the prior administrations selling price to the developer. All permits pulled and construction on main street stopped. Havent been there since last summer, but I found it funny they would stop the project and try to force more money from the people who bought the property.

@amiga500
Of course the project is not being stopped, such a worthy investment to stave 100 km makes total sense instead of making agreements with Russia. Must keep the public works welfare program running. Maybe another 500 plus to people with cats in honor of JK?

The numbers do not support Duda have a 90% chance of winning. He is fighting for his life. The turnout today for the opposition candidate is impressive and covers a large age demographic. Many more over 40 voters than I anticipated. If this is the demographic that supports him, Duda will not win. People are smart and they see through the same old PiS B.S. This guy is very well spoken, would destroy Duda in a debate, and very smart, makes strong arguments for unity. PiS is divisive at best if not absolutely destructive. I would put money on the new kid if I could.

I think its safe to assume that in the second round, Trzaskowski gets 70% of the votes from Holownia, KK, Bosak and others who cant beat Duda. I think thats probably an underestimation really. But for discussion sake, if thats the number, then the President of Warsaw is in a virtual dead heat with Duda already. While the oposition vote remains divided, there is no real choice other than not for Duda or for Duda. This brings us to a second round where voters gravitate to one side or the other.

By that math another 2% loss and its all but over for him. With a month to go before the election, given the rate of decent now, I wouldnt be betting on PiS. Typically when a ship is sinking, people look for life rafts and deals are made. I can easily see deals being made with Trzaskowski already. He publicly said he would work with PiS if he wins and they present good legislation. This guy isnt an extremist politician. He has Warsaw operating pretty well. Someone has yet to explain to me what PiS has done other than give away other peoples money, raise taxes, raise ZUS, spend EU money, and give special treatment financially to family, friends and supportive press.

According to these numbers:

Bosak: 6%
K-Kamysz: 5%
BiedroĊ„: 4%

None of those three have a chance of winning. The match is quite simple. If all three though want Duda out, then they should simply get out now. Does Poland really want a repeat of Clinton/Saunders divided vote? That was simply the dumbest election season in USA history. a divided yet similar base is not wise. There are deals to be made. Are politicians in Poland simply not smart enough to make them? Or do they want to stay on TV for their own personal interests?

Duda was well above 50% in almost every poll just before Trzaskowski came out. Losing more than 10% in just a few weeks is getting pounded. Its why PiS is removing restrictions so quickly now. To try to get people feeling comfortable again. Its why the mines in Silesia were sent back to work while the virus rages through families there. Its why now they are pushing the June 28th election before the second quarter economic results come out in July. Those July numbers are going to show soul crushing unemployment and business closures.

Anyone walking the streets of their city and village is going to see empty storefronts now where there were small business just three months ago. Those operations wont come back in most cases, and it will take years for new business to replace them. This election will become less about LGBTQ or other alphabet soup issues and more about people and their ability to live as the days go on.

WOW real brave to make statements like that. Blame for a worldwide virus? How about you take a remedial reading comprehension class. Spineless comment.

Everyone can blame the leadership for a damaged economy that did not have to be as damaged as it is. The virus is bad. Its a killer. It is not a global killer and threatening mankind like all the "experts" said could be.

Thinking PiS will win based on what could, or might happen, when clearly they are getting pounded in the polls and public opinion is wishful thinking. Its not just the economy either, its the judiciary, the treatment of small business owners, the perceived corruption at the core of the administration, the censorship, and all the other absolutely stupid economic policy they have come up with.

News / Presidential elections 2020 - your opinions about campaign, candidates [2223]

I think people are over estimating and under estimating Poles. Over estimating PiS support, and under estimating the younger voters who want them out. Think about all the Poles that came home in the virus, they arent PiS supporters and they wont be leaving the country before the election. Think about all the Poles that could not go abroad and now cant go abroad because other countries will have an economic downturn. PiS has not shown stability. They look corrupt, and incompetent, maybe they are constantly corrupt and incompetent but that wont get them votes.

These Polls that are being taken, I have to question the demographics of respondents, and how many are being polled. I am reminded of GHW Bush/Clinton campaign. Bush was pooping the bed economically and Clinton had the world hypnotized with charm, intelligence and great public speaking ability. These three things and the young voters changed everything.
