History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

I think that pointing to message boards as proof of general Jewish hate for Poles or the other way around is fairly lame. People with a grudge to bear either legitimate or more likely not, are more likely to post messages than people that don't.

I'm fairly certain that the Jew who posted about the holocaust being in Poland not Canada would be laughed at if he/she said the same thing in amongst a collection of randomly slected Jews. Safer to post such moronic statements annonymously on a message board.

History / Kosciuszko Squadron - why don't they bring it back? [45]

"Poles will read this book with a melancholy mixture of pride and anger, Britons and Americans with an uneasy combination of admiration for the Poles and shame at their own nations' conduct"

And the occasional Aussie will enjoy it partly because it has a go at Americans and British.......

On a serious note I picked this book up a couple of years ago on a visit to Krakow. As someone who knew precious little about Polish history it was an awesome book, easy to read (I finished it in two days - normally takes me more than a month to read a book) and very informative. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Also it encouraged me to read more about Poland's history afterwards.

Life / Famous Polish people (that we have actually heard of) [224]

The two most famous Poles????

North and South.

Boom boom.

Seriously

Karol Józef Wojtyła
Lech Walesa
Roman Polanski
Marie Curie (did not know she was Polish until recently)
Fryderyk Chopin (also did not know he was Polish until recently)
Tadeusz Kosciuszko (but only because I’m Australian and our highest mountain was named after him)

There are probably others that I did not know were Polish.
