News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

Did I mention that you have to be available 24/7 these days and weekends are not for the family anymore?

I know. Luckily I have a job where I don't spend much of my time working and spend most of my time on Etrade, Polish Forums, youtube, watching the news, etc. It's really not about how long you work but rather how much you get done. I'm fairly young and I don't have a ton of corporate experience but I have had a lot of documented success and promotions in the years I do have under my belt. For me it's very easy for me to find a job although my particular specialty is a field that has lots of turn over and a very sink or swim environment. However, I know that definitely isn't the case with say like a speech pathologist, a cabinet maker, or an HR director.

But property values have bounced back big time and they are now higher than ever before.

Property values certainly bounced backed but they're still lower than they were at 2007 levels, at least here in Chicago and the suburbs. A lot of people did make a killing buying foreclosures but a whole lot more lost their homes by being unable to afford mortgages and property taxes. If you had a lot of cash during the recession it was great because you could pick up apartment buildings extremely cheap and rent every single unit out due to the decline of home ownership - which still hasn't rebounded since. In Illinois people were more affected by the ridiculous property taxes, which got raised even further, more than even mortgages - at least from the conversations I've had with my real estate agent. We've had droves of people leaving Cook County for surrounding suburbs and even states. For example, if you have a $1 mil home in say Park Ridge - an affluent Cook county suburb. You can expect $19k in property taxes - with that being raised by 4.25% every year over the next four years. By comparison, a $1 million home in Highland Park, the premier Jewish suburb of Lake County, will run you around $12k in property taxes with no further raises. This is still a crazy high amount compared to many other states where it's a fraction. A lot of real estate speculators simply had to sell their homes and not make any profit or even take a loss because they simply couldn't wait around for the market to rebound and pay 5+ years of property taxes in the mean time. With a home like the Park Ridge example, that'd be $100k over 5 years - and that's not even counting bills and upkeep to keep the house looking nice and pipes from bursting.

I know some Poles say Poland is Central Europe, some say Eastern Europe... I consider it one and the same. I would argue that our culture and society has more in common with Slavic Eastern European countries than more Germanic central Europe. It's really just semantics though.

Yeah Illinois is 2nd to only New Jersey from my understanding. However, NJ is far more friendly to corporations and businesses. Its crazy quite frankly I'm simply fed up with living in the US. I'm taking my money and moving elsewhere. It's getting worse and worse and worse. I mean honestly Poland, Eastern Europe and even Central Asia is starting to look more and more promising each day.

"Terrorist threats have been more likely in countries which have accepted a significant number of Muslim refugees and/or already have sizable Muslim minorities."

Hmm... a correlation between high Muslim populations and terrorist threats? Never!!

Tsk, tsk. Have the hicks already given you that "if you don't like it, leave" speech? ;)

It's many reasons - but yes, I don't like it so I am planning on leaving - especially if Hillary wins. I'm mainly planning on leaving because the US is no longer what it was when I first came here. For one, European white Christians are now the ones being persecuted. Our money is taken, our morals are challenged, and our way of life is under constant assault. We can't even go by a roll of toilet paper at Target without being inundated with some transsexualism being throw in our face. I do not wish to live in a society like that anymore. Things have changed drastically and it's only getting worse and worse. I plan to have a family and I definitely won't expose my children to the gay propaganda, have them learning a common core curriculum, receive dozens of unnecessary vaccines, or be forced to accept ideas that are foreign to my family's Polish tradition and customs and our Roman Catholic faith.

Don't know about your chances in Poland or further east, but Singapore and Japan are quite nice.

The thing is I already speak fluent Polish, have property in Poland, have my entire family in Europe - mostly in Poland and would essentially just need to find work, learn the bureaucracy, and find out who the big players in Wroclaw are. It wouldn't take me long to get settled in plus I'd make sure I have around $100k after moving expenses to ride it out for a year or two while I'm getting settled in. Russia wouldn't be bad either as I speak a bit of Russian and could become fluent rather quickly although the wages for expats aren't nearly what they were 10-20 years ago. Japan and Singapore are too restrictive and it would be very hard for me to learn the language. I'd sooner take a Latin American country than even East Asian. I have a great job offer in Kazakhstan so that is one consideration for now and the move would be rather easy since the employers take care of a lot of the moving and settling in related costs and paperwork.

quote=Polonius3]There are also lesbos, butches, maso-sadists or is it sado-masochists, sodomists,
fetishists, metrosexuals et al[/quote]
I mean I guess I'd consider myself a metrosexual since I buy nice clothes and am kind of obsessed about my appearance. That has to do more related with my position and just because I generally like nice clothes, Swiss watches, Italian and British suits, stuff like that. I don't impose my beliefs on others though. I mean there is so many different sexual this, gender that it's like impossible to keep track of them all. I'm in my late 20s and quite frankly I haven't heard of most of these till the last few years. This is why I jokingly refer to it as LGBTADFKL;JQWER9IPJU - or basically any combination of LGBT plus a hitting a bunch of random keys. Of course, you won't see H for hetero or N for normal...

Thankfully, at least the majority of Polish society (at least according to the 2013 study I posted earlier) does NOT find homosexuality to be normal, would not accept a homosexual teacher, boss, coworker, nanny, etc. and does not support gay marriage.

Even though most of these are taken way out of context, I don't see a big problem with calling someone a pansy and stating that a sex worker made the choice to expose herself to a world of criminals, drugs, STDs, and all sorts of other nasty things. Also, talcum powder has been shown to cause cancer and there is talc that contains asbestos as well as asbestos free talc. Furthermore, Dr. Andrew Wakefield was a specialist in gastrology and a medical researcher.. We need more people in groups like Pegida fighting for a white Christian Europe - not less... and we certainly don't need groups like the EDL who are covertly funded by and merely doing the work of Zionists, the natural enemies of Arabs..

Also, it's a known fact at least here in the US that the Hasidic Jews - especially those on the East Coast are notorious for being involved in underage sexual abuse and pedophilia. There was even one case where a bunch of Hasidic Rabbis got caught with running an organ trafficking ring worth tens of millions of dollars - their sentences? 2 years...

Why is only LGBT so special? Many of us are specific

Exactly 98%-99% of the population DON'T act this way and are not LGBTQWERTY... Even the people who are fetishists like if they're into bondage or something they don't go around walking around in latex suits in public with their partners nor do they host parades. They do that stuff in the privacy of their home with their most public display being perhaps some private club or something.

The thing that upsets me the most is that these people are totally selfish. All they care about is their rights - me, me, me. They have absolutely no care or regard whether there are little children near the parade and whether their 'simulations' are appropriate. Anyone who challenges their views and beliefs and states that they don't agree is automatically labeled a bigot and homophobe - they don't even bother to have a debate about it because they are too selfish to have a shred of respect for other people's views.

I wish Poland had laws like those in Russia. At least in Russia you won't find books like 'Daddy's New Roommate' in school made for readers preschool to second grade. For Christ sakes, a child doesn't even know about hetero sex yet you're already inundating them with deviant sex. Pride parades are shut down right away and the people arrested and throw into buses. Problem solved - no pride parade. Russians even were smart enough to hire civilians as security to Olympics to make sure groups like Pussy Riot don't disrupt it - yet they did and then complained that they were arrested... If they didn't provoke the police and security forces they wouldn't of been arrested...

There are many conspiracy theories that can be attributed to population control - vaccines, normalization of LGBT culture, man made diseases, chem trails, wars, etc. I can kind of believe wars, man made diseases, and perhaps famines. I mean we do know that collectivization resulted in widespread famine and death in Russia and China - they certainly didn't do much to address the issue. Many people argue the Holodomor in Ukraine was purposely made by Stalin.

Quite frankly, some of the others seem rather far fetched to me. However, as I simply don't have enough evidence or sources on these topics, I can't make a decision one war or the other and there isn't much solid proof one way or the other - many of these are still in the theory phase.

I can tell you though that I wouldn't put anything past the government. After all, Henry Kissinger told congress in the 1970's that 2 billion people ought to be killed off because there's simply too many people.

I wonder what percent of the Polish population is actually LGBT.. I'm curious if this 'trans' nonsense has swept Poland as well. I mean we do have a trans MP but she gets no respect. I remember reading one article headlined like 'parliament opposes ruling against gays' or something to that extent. I thought it was very unusual as the parliament is typically very conservative in Poland. I then realized that by 'parliament' they meant only 2 members - one of which was of course Gorodzka.

I really wonder how many Poles are admittedly homosexual vs how many identify as trans. I know there's a bit of Polish girls that are bi and there's a few gay guys but I wonder if like a census has ever been taken of this population.

CNN/BBC, we would receive information months later if at all.

...as well as highly biased and skewed to fit one groups' agendas.

Daily Mil

Thank goodness there are so many independent media outlets. More and more people are starting to listen to these smaller news outlets because they've realized that the large media corporations are very biased, tell half truths, and in many cases will totally ignore stories - like the ones regarding sexual assault cases and statistics in certain European countries. Certain media outlets are so liberal they won't even attribute a person to a specific country, race, etc. - but they'll break their own rules if the individual is a white Europeans (i.e. certain media outlets and police reports in Sweden).

The abortion debate recently showed this - a lot of people that were known to be conservative came out and said bluntly that they were against the law changing.

You are correct about abortion - that conversation is changing in Poland now and quite frankly I think that's a good thing. There are many people who identify as Catholics and conservatives, like myself and my parents, who still support abortion as a necessary evil.

We don't mind gay couples having the same rights as hetero married couples either - I think if two people love each other and do what they do in private who am I to say what they shouldn't. However, when it comes to propagating beliefs that 98-99% of the society that doesn't identify with and they're telling us their behavior is 'normal' and then simulating sexual acts in public with no regard if there's children around - no that I am totally against.

One of the more famous couples that felt that homosexuality is a private affair for the home between a couple are the famous fashion designers Dolce and Gabbana - of course Elton John forced them to apologize to their own gay community and the public as a whole.

How many pride parades in a Poland have you been to? Or are you yet again posting based on nothing more than your ignorance and prejudice?

1.. unwillingly I may add. and yes, there is a lot of obscenity and nudity. I was one of the unfortunate ones to not know there was a gay pride parade and be in downtown Chicago that day. Men dressed in leather chaps with butt cheeks cut out, scores of men wearing only underwear - or even less, and simulating butt sex (or maybe not even simulating - I averted my eyes before I could find out for sure).

These groups b1tch and b1tch about equal rights and dignity and respect and all that yet they have utterly no respect for people who have opposing views nor children and families that are in the area. There isn't even any sort of certain dress code or modesty requirements.

I beg to differ little jon - A quick google search shows the following: (I won't post the totally nude ones, but believe me they're there)

No nude pics - you may provide link to search instead.

They should have a LGBT parade in Mosul or Raqqa... ISIS would gladly let them all march off the roof of the highest building

Sorry mod - they were actually clothed.. granted barely so I understand your concern..

Are these pics from the Chicago parade?

God no - it was a google search of gay pride parade - not specifically Chicago. The last thing I want is to keep pictures of such disgusting things.

Do you not have any laws regarding public nudity?

We do - but those laws are ignored when it comes to the gays. The police won't touch that issue or arrest anyone. They already have a problem trying to police black neighborhoods - the last thing they need is another scandal that they're homophobic because they arrested a half nude gay dude.

Look, I don't have an issue with gay people - they can do whatever they want - in the privacy of their own homes like 99% of other people even those who may be into some of the kinkier stuff. Why is it that this group demands to have the right to simulate sex and dress nearly naked in public?

Yes, many people that participate in gay pride parades will dress up in colorful costumes and march down the street with a band. However, there are many that are half nude, simulate sex acts, and do other gross obscene things. Guys don't even make out with their girlfriend in public, unless they're still in high school and not grown up yet. It's called common courtesy and respect.

From a quick google search of 'gay pride poland' Open at your own risk..

Food / Is brain-damaging vegan fad growing in Poland? [176]

Adolf Hitler and the Nazis were actually one of the first groups to enact animal protection laws. Himler banned trapping and put severe restrictions on hunting while Goebels, a conservationist himself, described Hitler as a vegetarian.

Göring announced in a radio broadcast::

An absolute and permanent ban on vivisection is not only a necessary law to protect animals and to show sympathy with their pain, but it is also a law for humanity itself.... I have therefore announced the immediate prohibition of vivisection and have made the practice a punishable offense in Prussia.

PETA ought to be proud of their roots

That's fine... let the idiots eat that nasty vegan garbage. For every animal they don't eat, I'll eat three.

You guys in the EU are lucky though - you don't have the same processed garbage that we do in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Our food is straight up disgusting. Literally the meat and cheese especially just smells and tastes so much different in Europe than it does in N. America. Like you can almost smell all the nasty chemicals in it.

I almost exclusively shop at Polish delis but still, it's not the same as the original.

Well it's lunch time. I think I'll have a delicious baby cow sandwich. (Veal calves are to my knowledge the only animal which hormones cannot be used on for any reason according to the USDA, although some farmers still put in hormone implants and then remove them prior to an inspection. However, antibiotics are not off limits. Still better than nothing though).

Vegetarianism was not created by Nazi Germany, please...

I never said they were - I stated that they were some of first people to create animal welfare laws.

As to Hitler being a vegetarian, this is VERY debatable.

I know - I am only stating what Goring wrote in his private diary. He also wrote in his diary that Hitler planned to ban slaughterhouses once the war ended,

This is all political, Adrian. The nazis needed to work on their image

Actually no, the Nazis passed animal welfare laws both before they were the majority group in Parliament as well as after they were the only group in government. Many of the top Nazis, especially Hitler and Goring were legitimately concerned about animal rights.

community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19960201&slug=2311809

Adrian, you're smarter than that. Come on.

Thanks Polson that's very nice of you but I was just joking. Although I do love bacon wrapped filet mignon as well as chicken, beef, veal, pork chops, fish, bison, turkey, etc. I honestly don't feel like I've had a good meal unless it has meat in it. The protein helps build muscle. I'd fell hungry all the time if all I ate was salad and tofu.

Also, tofu is nearly tasteless. I've tried tofu-turkey and tofu-bacon. It tastes nothing like the real thing. The only veggie food I really like actually is veggie burgers which is weird because I don't eat normal hamburgers (I think I've literally eaten maybe a dozen in my whole life) as ground beef grosses me out.

You can even get lion meat - exoticmeatmarkets.com/exoticmeats.html - it costs $5k for 4 ounces

Do you kill it yourself or...?

No I don't live on a farm. Although I love animals, I wouldn't keep a cow as a pet but rather keep to provide food.

The 'guiltless grill' restaurants and vegans who say 'meat is murder' and criticize others for eating meat are the worst. Guiltless grill I mean really, so what I'm supposed to feel guilty for eating meat? They think that by only eating wheat grains and tofu that they're going to save the world and end cruelty to animals. Well actually, millions of animals each year are killed by white and soy bean combines each year. So the very same foods that they claim are so good for animal welfare actually results in millions of rabbits and other small animals having their heads crushed.

and nothing in the dodgy link you posted that can't be found among people who don't identify as lgbti...

I don't see how googling 'gay pride parade' is a dodgy link? Also, hetero people don't go out in public and display their sexuality and intimacy with their partner - unless they're still 16 and feel the need to make out every 10 minutes.

The gays take every public event to push their agenda and have absolutely no regard for the families that are there with children and do not respect the fact that it's the Olympics, or a Saint Patrick's Day parade - but the purpose and title of the event certainly won't stop the gays from pushing their propaganda and claiming to be the victim:

Pussy Riot 'Whipped' By Cossacks Patrolling Sochi Winter Olympics
youtube.com/watch?v=eiw0fw_sJOk
It's the Winter Olympics - not a gay pride rally... have some respect for the olympians and the families that came to see the olympics - not some lesbians wearing ski masks... Later, Pussy Riot would go to an Orthodox Church and start singing and screaming with absolutely no respect that they're in a freakin' Church - yet they yell and complain that they got kicked out of a church for playing gay music...

The nation's largest St. Patrick's Day parade kicked off Thursday in New York City, and for the first time in decades, gay activists are not decrying it as an exercise in exclusion nbcnewyork.com/news/local/NYC-To-Gay-Groups-St-Patricks-Day-Parade-Ends-an-Era-of-Exclusion-372311832.html

Again, it's a St. Patrick's day parade - not a gay pride rally...It's to celebrate St Pat's day - not 'being gay and dressing like a leprechaun day'

I could cite many other examples...

The problem is, not only do these individuals represent 1% of society, they demand that we accept their ways of life as tolerance is no longer enough. We give them their pride parades, equal rights, even marriage yet they demand that they be included in all sorts of other public events with no regard for families and no respect for the real purpose of the event. They always want more... now gays are demanding to have marriage rights in Poland, as earlier they said they'd be satisfied with civil unions, and to have children... Some gays even demand that the Catholic church allow them to be priests! You can never win with these people - they always want more and more and more. No matter what they always play the victim card

Perhaps heterosexuals Catholics should do the same and demand inclusion in gay pride parades? We can have our own float with a married hetero couple making out in front of everyone. Except that will never happen because hetero adults tend to keep their sexuality and intimacy reserved for the bedroom. Even the freaky types like nudists and fetishists keep their activities private - their most public displays will be only in a club with that specific purpose filled with like minded people.

Food / Is brain-damaging vegan fad growing in Poland? [176]

But it has nothing to do with vegetarianism/veganism today.

Never said they did - I stated they were among the first to form animal welfare laws which groups like PETA fight for. PETA stands for People for Ethical Treatment of Animals

hey're more likely to "save the world and end cruelty to animals" than the persons who don't act.

You don't have to be a vegetarian to put a dent into animal cruelty. Also, this is a practice that wouldn't end even if half the people in the world became vegetarians - for one you'd still have products and medicines being tested on animals. I think I'd rather have a new drug tested on a rat than a human being. I mean yeah it sucks, but it's a necessary evil. I'm not advocating cruelty to animals, far from it as I have pets and I love animals, but even other animals are cruel to each other. Ever see a cat catch a mouse? The cat tortures it for hours before it kills it. Also, some of the more extreme PETA types are against milking cows and many vegans are against drinking milk - but actually it's harmful for the cow if they aren't milked.

What are the pro's and con's though of being a vegan or even vegetarian? Vegetarian I can understand - there's hundreds of millions, perhaps even over 1 billion, vegetarians as many Hindus in India are vegetarians - plus add all the other vegetarians around the world.

Vegan though? I don't know that seems too difficult.

Here's a source arguing against vegan diets:
authoritynutrition.com/top-5-reasons-why-vegan-diets-are-a-terrible-idea
2 others -
empoweredsustenance.com/is-vegan-healthy
chriskresser.com/why-you-should-think-twice-about-vegetarian-and-vegan-diets

It looks like missing out on vitamins and minerals, especially b12, are the biggest concerns. However, it does state that blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer risk is lowered. I'd imagine that vegetarians probably have no issues with fiber intake either.

See in North America, it would probably be a good healthy choice to be vegetarian or maybe even vegan. Our food, especially our meat, is disgusting. Unless you buy it from a deli, farmer's market, or some specialty shop you're getting hormone infused, antibiotic, processed crap, and even the meat in specialty deli's isn't even close to the same as that in Europe. The food in the EU is just so much healthier and better tasting - even bland foods like yogurt.

Quite frankly, I just can't ever see myself giving up meat, nor do I really want to. If I gave up eating meat
for even a week, I'd probably eat like pasta, potatoes, rice, etc. and probably gain weight thanks to carbs and still feel hungry all the time. I work out pretty often and I usually do cardio only as a warmup and mainly do 2 sets of 5-7 reps with high weights. I don't take steroids or creatine - a protein based diet is my steroid haha.

Human consumption intentionally kills over 1,000 BILLION animals every year. If this is not a massacre, what is it?

Animals eat each other too - it's part of nature. I don't think a wolf or a bear would be quite as satisfied with a bowl of tofu than a plump dead deer.

I don't know, I just don't see much of a point to being vegan especially if Poland already has such wonderful food that isn't treated with hormones, antibiotics, and all sorts of other garbage like the food in N. America.

If your police force and government don't have the balls to deal with it, that's their problem.

It's not that they don't have the balls - it's that they care about their jobs. Its harder and harder for police to do their work because they constantly have to worry about their actions resulting in some protest, termination, or even worse a civil suit. Like I said, the police already have a huge issue policing black areas because every time a black guy disobeys a police order and gets wrestled to the ground, tazed, or shot because he didn't drop his weapon, the black community cries uncle and people get fired. Even our police chief recently got fired even though he absolutely nothing to do with the specific case that forgot him fired - I forget which one it is it's every weekend where some black dude gets shot by the cops and the media cries but few discuss that he had a gun or knife and charged the police or refused to drop the weapon. If a cop arrested a gay dude for wearing leather pants with the butt cheeks cut out or walking around in a thong, which happens quite frequently in the Boys Town neighborhood of Chicago, you can bet there'd be a huge demonstration of gay dudes saying that cops are discriminating. This is one of those unspoken rules of police - kind of like not pulling over drivers who don't stop at stop lights for 3 seconds on the west side or hassling cab drivers who carried pistols in their car (prior to the concealed carry laws thankfully being passed at last).

Nobody should be going around in public displaying their bits and pieces (ooh missus!).

Exactly, but people do at gay pride parades because they have no respect for families and children that live in that area. Again, it's not the majority of the people that attend these, but rather a significant minority.

You can be homosexual and be a priest, so I'm really not sure what you're getting at here.

No you can't - not a Roman Catholic priest because you have to take a vow of celibacy and chastity. Also, the new pope answers questions through questions. When asked should gay men become priests he stated who am I to judge. That doesn't sound like a yes or a no to me. It's a political answer meant to not further alienate the church, which I'm happy with. I don't care if gays attend church and quite frankly I hope they do as I believe spirituality is good for everyone. However, becoming a priest while having a gay lover - no, because that goes against tradition and vows of celibacy and chastity.

I think he's never encountered that highly visible beast, the British Tourist.

Actually I have as I travel a lot both for work and for fun. Just go to any foreign country and you'll see them eating and drinking at a British Pub. I couldn't believe how many there were especially at Ibiza - I'd say that's where I saw the highest concentration.

The topic of this forum is 'Does democratic Poland guaruntee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights?' I'd say yes - the law guarantees it. In practice though, many Poles, arguably the majority, are not accepting of gays. They tolerate them, but they don't accept them. Catholic tradition which is very strong in Poland has a lot to do with this. For example, the majority support partnerships but not marriage.

These are all in Warsaw Poland... and all these imagines show intimacy in public and half naked dude parading around in speedos... So yes, these are obscene and these participants have no regard for families and children in the area that don't want to sea a half naked man marching down the street.

All disgusting images - hetero couples do not do this kind of stuff in public...

Have you seen any Warsaw (or any other city)'s parade in REAL?

Like I've said above, yes I have - in Chicago and it was only because I happen to be going to an important meeting in downtown and was late thanks to a bunch of barely dressed men parading down the street.

You are right - the people who stand on the sides tend be more normal - with that I agree. They may wear a rainbow flag or a wig or something but for the most part look pretty normal and are not exposing their body parts. However, the people participate in the parade - that's a totally different story. The people marching were half naked, wearing only speedos, were the gay leather fetishists with leather chokers, suspenders and butt cheeks cut out of leather pants. Granted I wasn't there long, maybe 10 minutes before I was able to pull a u-turn, but I seen enough to last me a life time. For the portion that I saw, yes, the majority of the marchers were dressed in a manner more suitable for the privacy of a bedroom - not the middle of the city. Let's just put it this way - it certainly wasn't PG rated. You don't see people on a saint patrick's day parade wearing speedos and playing bag pipes. You don't see poles on the may 3rd parade dressed in speedos and leather suspenders with a$$less chaps.. no because we have a sense of decency and aren't exhibitionists

No obscenities? Here's the gay pride parade in Toronto - naked people with nothing but a metal cage covering their schlong, a$$es hanging out, impersonating sex acts - look how many people let their butt cheeks show for everyone in full view - without any regard if there's children around... and you tell me that these peopel are normal - yes those on the sidelines perhaps but not the ones marching ...

blogwrath.com/gay-issues/what-many-kids-saw-at-torontos-pride-parade-2012/3103

my favorite is the last pictture - And the postal workers union came up with a cryptic message: "We Won't We Won't Shut the F**** Up"

Exactly... gay people can't ever be satisfied - 'we wont ever shut the f*** up' is a good slogan for you guys

See this is exactly what I mean - when cops crack down on public indecency laws the gays cry about it and say they're discriminating :

lifesitenews.com/news/homosexuals-angered-as-cops-crack-down-on-lewdness-and-nudity-at-dallas-gay

The pride parade rules now state: "In accordance with the city of Dallas public nudity ordinance, parade participants must not expose genitalia, buttocks, or female breasts."

Michael Doughman, executive director of the Tavern Guild, which organizes the parade, said, "police [have] looked the other way for years and years and years, but public lewdness and nudity in public is not going to continue to be tolerated."

POINT PROVEN!

Straight people discuss this because they don't want it in their society. Thankfully, there's some places in Europe left where PC, LGBT, and liberalism have not overrun the society - like Poland and even more so Russia - which totally outlaws pride parades. Yet these people insist on being accepted in areas that clearly don't want them. Get a hint - it's like if your not invited to someone's house you don't just barge in. The majority of Polish people don't want LGBT people to have rights like marriage yet they keep pushing and pushing when there's plenty of other countries that are more than happy to accommodate gay marraige and all that. Why do they insist on making every country accept their ideals, especially if they don't want to?

They'll probably say because there's still racism, homophobia, or because wealth has not been totally redistributed.

Look at what's going on in Venezuela right now - perfect example of the worst things that Socialism has to offer for a society. People need to carry a backpack full of money just to be able to buy dinner yet the government keeps spending more money on 'gun free zone' signs and 'anti-racism' campaigns.

You really don't understand Poland, do you? Political correctness exists to a massive degree here.

Not really and definitely not with PiS. The defense minister has no problem expressing his views on Jews, the politicians have no problem stating that Muslims carry parasites and protozoa and they don't want them, and the government has no problem regularly making xenophobic and homophobic remarks - as well as the common citizenry. If that's PC, then sign me up!

No one should be deprived from basic rights because they happen to be different

Then they should go to a country where they'll have their 'basic rights'

It's a basic human right.

The fact remains - the government and people have voted and decided - they don't want gay marriage in Poland. We don't want it, too bad.

Giving equal rights to homosexuals will not even take any rights away from Jonny Reb, from Poloonius, from Adrian, from Levy and all the homophobic gang!

It will cheapen the definition of marriage - which the government and votes have agreed.

The people and the government have decided that is what they want in their country - they allowed civil unions to appease you but voted against gay marriage, against adoption by gay couples, and banned many other things. That is the decision of the government and the people. If you don't like it, you can move to place more suitable for the things you want instead of trying to undermine and change what the people and government want for their own country.

Granting same rights to all is called democracy!

What about my right as a Catholic to oppose gay marriage?

The fact is, each country has it's own unique laws, customs, and interpretation and implementation of democracy. Part of democracy is voting and electing officials. Through the Democratic process, Poland has decided that they will allow civil union but don't want gay marriage, gay couples to have kids, IVF, etc.

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

Not really. It was a non-issue during the election campaign.

Exactly - because it is the existing law and most Poles do not care for changing it to accommodate a tiny group. Yet KODists and the tiny LGBT crowd in Poland is unsatisfied with civil unions, which they earlier stated that's all they wanted, and now wants marriage. The majority of Poles and the Polish government aren't giving into their demands and it appears that thankfully the laws will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future. So go to another place that actually cares.

if someone associated with them dares to breath a word of something that isn't part of their narrative, then they're cast aside very very quickly.

As long as it conforms to their conservative, Roman Catholic, Polish patriotic views... which is totally fine with me. Also yes, the politicians have said many things that wouldn't be considered PC by the West - like the example of Jews and Muslims I cited earlier, which again I am totally fine with and am quite happy to have a defense minister who reads and understands The Protocols.

No problem? No, none at all, except the fact that NATO has gone very cold on Poland.

Obama's recent Europe visit suggests otherwise. Then again, he's all talk with no action. Finally, Poland has realized that they can't rely on other countries to help them - as proven by the example in WW2, so actually I'm glad that this is happening. Poland finally is realizing that it can't rely on NATO as it is highly unlikely they'd do anything to stop a Russian advance.

PiS isn't going to seize anyone's lands dude.. not gonna happen. If they did, I would take the 300k zloty because it'd be less of a headache at this point. That's not the point of this topic though.

No, because it simply wasn't an issue that the parties focused on.

Exactly, because it's a non-issue for the majority of Poles as well as the government. The majority of people don't see any problem with the existing laws as far as civil unions, gay marraige, etc. are concerned. Only a tiny portion of the population is arguing to have the existing laws changed to be more inclusive, most people don't see any reason for it and don't want it to be changed.

You haven't read the laws, have you? The new agricultural law means that they can nationalise land, hence why some farmers are getting very very upset.

I've read that land can't be purchased by foreigners anymore - but I don't see how that really would affect me as I am a citizen.

From the forums here I found this - https://polishforums.com/real-estate/poland-new-land-law-legislation-make-77587/

- If unable to find a buyer the government body for land will acquire the land at market value. (likely to be less than current value)

- Any abuse of the law on this will result in land being acquired the government body for land and sold on at market value.
- As land value drops farmers will find it difficult to sell at a price which covers their mortgage/loan.

That's actually good for me - if my land is worth 4 5 mil zloty or whatever and they'd give me even half I'd sell it tomorrow. I don't have any mortgage or loans or anything else on it so it's just sitting there anyway.

Again though, this doesn't have much to do this with this LGBT thread.

No, because the parties simply didn't want to fight an election on the issue.

Here's a few articles I found from an old election - when this question was pretty important apparently:

thegully.com/essays/gaymundo/051110_poland_election.html

Right-wing candidates, pandering to a traditionally homophobic electorate, openly used insulting terms such as "pederasta" and "pedal." These words, which not too long ago would have been deemed unsuitable to utter in polite company, are now heard in parliamentary debates and even on television.

Radio Maryja dubbed recent developments in Spain and Poland "homosexual terror" "sodomitical unions" and "totalitarianism of sin."

Jaroslaw recently announced that "homosexuals should not be allowed to teach." Earlier he had told the weekly Ozon: "The affirmation of homosexuality will lead to the downfall of civilization. We can't agree to it."

hrw.org/news/2006/06/04/poland-official-homophobia-threatens-basic-freedoms-0

Wierzejski claimed that "the homosexual community's agenda is to propagate deviant attitudes among youth, and - what is worse - they are connected to a world of quasi-criminal character, including pedophilia."

"If deviants start to demonstrate, they should be bashed with a baton."

I'm starting to like these PC Polish Politicians more and more!

I thought I'd share this -

euobserver.com/news/133337

Polish government promises constitutional reform

Poland's ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) has called for a public debate on updating the constitution, amid a bitter row over the government's attempts to reform the constitutional court.

President Andrzej Duda called the constitution a "work in progress" that reflected "times passed".

Shouldn't they rather concentrate on what matters to voters - jobs and future prospects?

Again - I am just quoting the title... I didn't write this article or the opinions.

Personally, until the government does something about the ridiculous Polish bureaucracy and makes it easier to establish companies in Poland I really don't care about the Polish politicians' economic plans.

The farm one does affect me though in terms of selling my land - if that's what I decide to do in the future. I'd have to sell my land to a local Polish citizen who can prove will use it for agricultural purposes for 10 years and if I give it to a family member I have to prove they will also use it for agricultural purposes (or at least that's how I read the new law ... perhaps my interpretation is a bit incorrect I can speak, write, and understand Polish a lot better than read it especially when it comes to legal language) ... or the government will buy it if I can't find a buyer and pay me 'market price' which of course will be significantly less but that's fine. I can't even give my farm to my kids though. Then again, much in Poland is accomplished with bribes. I remember one time my grandma was driving down the street - and she spent time in the US so she had nice jewelry, nice clothes, and a bit of cash. Well, the cops pull her over and it says her occupation - rolnik (basically farmer). The cop laughs and calls his buddy over - 'Jurek, zobacz to, to jest rolnik'

I'll give you a quick example. Let's say that a hospital that receives money from the government wants to buy an MRI machine. Well, it's not as simple as say looking online, scheduling a meeting with a rep, and picking the machine/company that offers the best combination of price, quality, and service. Well, in Poland it's totally different. The purchasing manager has to basically type a report that they need a new MRI machine, explain why they need it, and list the specs that are required and purposes that it must serve - like i.e. an open seated one to appease people that may be claustrophobic and costs between $900k-$1 mil. Well, these specs are then given to companies who then submit a bid in a way - they basically say well we have this and this MRI machine that matches your specs. This list is then given to the hospital's purchasing manager and then submitted to the government because they're the ones that would pick which MRI machine gets bought - not the hospital. So usually, the government picks the cheapest one without as much regard to quality, ease of doing business, service, ease of use, etc.

This particular was meant to combat corruption and wasteful spending but it's created a crazy bureaucracy. I remember one kid who was studying Poland and got a scholarship. Great student, great kid. Well, one day he gets a letter that they won't be renewing his scholarship and that basically he's screwed. He writes to all these people and waits months for a reply. Finally, he gets a meeting scheduled with some guy who agrees that his scholarship was unfairly cut - he originally says that itll take a month or two to get an official decision from his boss. Well, the kid says he's already waited so long and wants to get back into school. The guy says he'll see what he can do - he ends up talking to his boss and within an hour has an answer - they reinstated the kids scholarship.

Starting a business is even worse - I thought incorporation was a pain in the butt till I saw Poland's laws - utterly ridiculous. If the government made Poland a more friendly place to open a business, not so much the economy, upholding of contract law, etc. but more so the crazy bureaucracy that has a lot of old Communist Soviet remnants, I would totally open up a business in Poland.

That is an error, every willing Pole should be armed. Guns should be sold on the every street cor

You realize that the Swiss government actually wants every citizen to have a gun in their home in the event a tyrannical government takes over? Yet there's hardly any murders. Guns are a great things... I personally have several.

The vast majority of men between the ages of 20 and 34 are conscripted into the militia and undergo military training, including weapons training. The personal weapons of the militia are kept at home as part of the military obligations
