Thanks Roger. I came from a region which has been ethnically mixed for decades if not centuries. The Bukovyna or Bucovina has been a no-man's kind of land for centuries, that had influx of Rusyns, Poles, Austrians/Germans, Jews etc. I have actually found most resemblance to pictures of Hutsul men -- a mountainous tribe in the Carpathians.

Hello everyone :).

I'm new here, but have read some of the threads here in the past.

I'm doing a bit of investigation into my roots. I was adopted as a baby from a region in north Romania, and when I was growing up people used to say to me I probably had a Slavic father, because I looked nothing like my birth mother. I remember once standing in the street and someone walked past me and called me Polish as a derogatory insult :(.

Other people I've asked have tended to say I look Polish rather than Czech or Russian or even Romanian. In fact when I tell people I was born in Romania they can't believe it.

It might not seem important to others to try and place a face, but for me it's quite important.

So what do you think? It must be hard in one sense to say this person looks Polish or that person looks German or whatever. But then you come across people who can guess quite accurately.

So your thoughts would be welcome :).
