Life / Not possible to find a Hardware/DIY store near Mokotów, Warszawa? (Warsaw district) [10]

Hi Jardinero,

I did ask some locals, and one told me to go to RTV (seriously) and another told me to go to OBI. Googling around for OBI then led me to PolishForums where I found out about Leroy Merlin and some old threads about hardware stores, after which I decided to ask here.

BTW, Google doesn't hide hits simply because a shop isn't paying Google. Google shows you ads related to your search, as well as your search results. Thus you can search for something and get an ad for brand A and a regular search result for competing brand B.

Thank you kindly! Uncle Google wasn't very forthcoming to me...

I ended up taking the subway to Leroy Merlin in Arkadia which, though really far, was the least total travel time for me.

On the plus side, I got some screws that would have easily cost me 8Zł in Belgium for 0.40... so 20x cheaper :-) I had never bought screws by weight before, neat!

(Apologies for the delay in answering)

Hi all,

I'm trying to find a DIY store within biking distance from Mokotów and so far the closest seems to be OBI in the South which is 23 minutes by bike.

I find it hard to believe that there's nowhere close I can go to buy some screws - in my home country Belgium there's several hardware stores within 10 min biking. Is this a cultural thing? :)

Language / Learning Polish but not focusing on the grammar, good idea? [37]

Try just poking at pictures on babadum.com . I started doing that in July (not even every day) and by now I already get 100+ scores (which means that of 4 pictures I can tell which one is the word, more than 100 times). Not a bad way to gain vocabulary...

Grammar is a logical dissection of the rules of a language, which is something that you don't do while speaking. Our brain is a gigantic pattern matcher, and by speaking/hearing/reading the language you'll automatically start using the correct phrasing even if you don't know why.

See also fluentin3months.com/polish/ for a pep talk.
