Travel / First Time Visit To Poland (travelling from England) [14]

Well the trip has been and gone. 2013 miles there and back to the UK. Just wanted to say what a beautiful country Poland is and how much we enjoyed our visit.

We entered Poland via Cottbus, what an experience that section of the road is, 40 miles of lumps and bumps! We eventually arrived at our campsite in Katowice with the weather a balmy 28 degrees. (happy days) . From our base at Camping 215 we traveled to the nearby towns of Tychy, Zory, Rybnik and Bytom stopping to photograph the local industry. I was impressed with Katowice, although undergoing major development the city retains a vibrant, friendly and bustling atmosphere.

The people we met on our travels have become good friends and we are definitely going to return again next year to see some more. I hope Poland finds it's feet in Europe and can somehow still retain the Poland i saw on our travels and doesn't succumb too much to lures of globalisation.

Motorcycle, photography... and motorway(A4) ? Wouldn't it be better for you to drive some local roads? It'll be better to see something interesting, maybe some worth of picturing than this.

Due to only having a few days in Poland we need to use the quickest route.Once we get to Katowice we will be using local roads.

What kind of bikes will you guys be on?

Honda VFR 800

First question, are you part of a motor/motorcycle organisation.

Steve

Hi Steve,

No we will be travelling independently.

Poland is a beautiful country and not to be missed!
I haven't been to where you're planning on going, but i'm sure you'll have a great time.
Ignore the saddos on here, some people have nothing better to do than whinge and moan. Some of them probably haven't even been to Poland.
Have a good trip!

Thanks Pam, we will.

Travel / First Time Visit To Poland (travelling from England) [14]

Hi all,

I have been reading these forums for a couple of days now, searching for advice on visiting & travelling through this beautiful country of yours. I must say that reading through some of the posts on this forum, the impression given of Poland would make the casual traveller choose to visit a different country! :)

I will be travelling from England in May next year with two of my friends on our motorcycles. We intend to enter Poland on A4 with our destination being Katowice. We are into photography and want to capture the coal mines that still exist in and around Katowice (before they disappear) and a visit to the Belchatow - power station site amongst other things.

We will be camping whilst in Katowice and i have seen this campsite, Kemping Dolina 3 Stawów Can anyone recommend it?

Also, can anyone recommend any local traditional places to eat and of course some nice bars for a couple of scruffy motorcylists? : )

Many Thanks,
Mo :)
